I'd be curious if this strategy causes 3rd party games to just avoid Xbox all together by next generation. I feel like this "everything is an Xbox" strategy is fine as far as consumers are concerned but makes it a bad play for those on the Xbox console that play more than just Xbox games. We already see games skip Xbox because they feel they will not get the return on investment for porting. I think it'll only get worse from here.

Exclusives will ALWAYS be a factor in any competitive industry, Automotive, Retail, gaming, travel. For Microsoft to say exclusives don't matter is laughable. Exclusives do matter they're what seperates you from the competition. This is just Microsoft saying we have failed at exclusives and the Console war, and now licking their wounds and trying to go 3rd party and "Force" industry change by throwing around a bunch of $$$. Love them or hate them, Sony has done more with less than Xbox, I predict Xbox will be the new Sega soon, completely 3rd party.
Automotive? That is the MAIN industry that DOESN’T have exclusives. Mazda and Ford share engines, Ford and GM share parts with Manual Transmissions, window panels, motor mechanics, etc. Look at Chevy and GM, they signed a contract for Honda and Hyundai to build their electric engines, to supply them with quality steel for their cars. Exclusives have always been dead.
@keloing923 Automotive industry doesn't have Exclusives?? So the fact that hondas are better cars than fords and get better milage, isn't an exclusive feature? Rolls royce is an exclusive car you can only buy from Royce dealers. I don't think you thought about your comment before you wrote it.

Well, I have all platforms because all platforms have great games, so I don't necessarily care. All I care about is the content on Game Pass, since it's getting more and more expensive, the value needs to also go up.
Game Pass is not enough to make back the money they gave them for all of these buyouts, including paying all of those extra devs. They should have just focused on the actual games and made sure they were doing well. They still didn't saying anything about Hellblade II's sales.
Exclusive dealings matter not only to game consoles but to any business that wants to draw and keep a customer. Satya shouldn't be involving himself in a market he doesn't fully understand, which is practically the entire business model across the globe. Exclusives absolutely matter if you want to grow your brand.
I think there is a real possibility that Indiana Jones will: 1) sell more xbox consoles and game pass subs in the next couple months 2) sell well on other platforms next June without impacting xbox sales and gp subs. I suspect they have seen that exclusives have minimal benefits which explains their current strategy.
In short Xbox is moving towards Steam business model and taking it to next level trying to become open platform with software and hardware to enjoy Xbox. I like this direction and was supporting it since play anywhere from Xbox One era. I like Phil thinking outside a box, outside Xbox(console).
If Microsoft's strategy for next-gen is to createa a hybrid Xbox and Steamdeck handheld. We don't need exclusives anymore as long as the AAA games/indie games publish on Xbox OR PC, that handheld can play almost all the games (obviously except for Nintendo/PS exclusives). I'm fine with that and I'm fine with the marketing messaging of "this is an xbox"

😂 What are you talking about? Most of their gamepass are on console and they’re making the most hardware than ever by investing into a handheld and a new console
This is one way to do it. That said, ALOT of current xbox fans do not like this or what this man is saying at all. They will lose a lot of players that want exclusives while gaining players that causally game instead.... so letting go of the hard-core fan base in hopes of getting the current generation on board.
Like shawn laydan said. Gaming as we know it is dying. They want streaming, subscriptions, they want you playing the new exciting thing and keep you engaged and keep playing. They don't want you playing the old stuff so game preservation is gonna die. Consoles will die.
Pride alone won't sell consoles or games. Besides....10 years from now most of us over 30 will be too occupied to waste too much money on games. Hence why Microsoft knows the nostalgic public is growing older.
Microsoft should just keep things simple like with the Xbox 360 era.

It's insane how in lots of ways Gamepass ruined Xbox. Nintendo and Sony approached it in a much better way with no day 1 and still having gamers buy their games
As someone who's had at least both major platforms since the SNES / Genesis days it kinda sucks having bought a Series X to have barely used the thing due to exclusives I didn't care for & low quality titles compared to the competition, only to have those exclusives I was excited about (&will hopefully be good quality) jump ship to the other console I also own anyways. As much as that sucks, feeling like I've somewhat wasted my money, the backwards compatability has been a saving grace for the console. @@firerock277 and nearly all PlayStation games are on pc,Xbox or switch..exclusives don't matter
@@firerock277Playstation has boy exclusives either. The days of "Exquoosives" are coming to an end for everyone.
Told you so, Destin. But at the time you refused to listen. Xbox as a console platform is dead. And it didn’t happen now, but was a sure thing for at least a year.
Xbox sure loves finding ways to say "Sony keeps kicking our asses" in the most nices ways possible.
It's Joever
Xbox are their own worst enemy.
This would be GREAT... had I known, BEFORE I bought a Series X... for no reason.
Imagine a kid asking his parents that he wants an Xbox but they just point at this phone and be like ”but you already have one”.
This is fantasy. No kid would ask their parents for an Xbox lol. They'd rather have a PS5 or pc
"But son, YOU are an xbox!".
Never thought I'd say that I wish Don Matrick was back in charge. This leadership team & this strategy is a complete train wreck.
However the worst thing about this is I feel it'll allow Sony to feel confident & get lazy again like the PS3.
Here's hoping Nintendo can really bring some true competition with Playstation, at least in terms of keeping up with third party support.
