- Rapper and Bronx native Fat Joe participated in a special Street Soldiers town hall on the police and the communities they patrol. Fat Joe shared this story about how many years ago his son was choking and there was no way he could get him to the hospital on time. But a cop saw that he was in distress and asked ifm she could help. That cop saved Joe's son's life.

I spent almost 20 years as a Texas peace officer. In that time I've seen the best and worst of law enforcement. I've also seen the best and worst of society. Imagine you go to work at your job and every person you interact with despises you doesn't trust you doesn't want to talk to you or is having their very worst day. Add on top of that that every single vehicle you stop and every interaction you make could in your life or simply because of the uniform you wear someone can take a shot and kill you with a rifle. Have I known bad cops absolutely have I arrested bad cops you're damn right I have in their uniform too. Did it bother me to do it absolutely not. Have I got police officers fired your damn right I have. I've also gone into burning apartment complexes to get little children out black white and Mexican. I've also burst four children into this world in my bare hands on the side of the road two of them were Brown. Each one of them was just a special as the miracle of birth and the child is regardless of color of skin.

We don't have a police problem in this country. What we have is an epidemic of broken homes where children are not disciplined or told no in the first time they are is usually by police officer. When this happens just like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum a teenager or young person throws a temper tantrum but they do it with a weapon and it cost them their lives. Or they try to find a police officer and they get what fighting a law enforcement officer get you your ass kicked and a trip to jail. The real problem here is we're making excuses in this society rather than making adults. I spoke with a veteran one time who said something to me that was quite profound he said just like West Germany and South Vietnam the America I was born into the longer exist. The America where doing right is the right thing to do and doing wrong is to be punished and corrected. The America where you don't get a participation trophy because the best thing to teach you is the better pill of being beaten or losing. I've arrested every race there is on this planet at one time or another. I have used force nd deadly force in the line of duty. But I've arrested way more white people than I ever arrested black or brown people. 99.9% of law enforcement that you meet see or observe in your rearview mirror ever every one of those 99.9% with bad to protect your life so think about that the next time you get stopped for doing something you shouldn't be doing like speeding have a little respect so bad the officer can give back to you the same level of respect!
