I don't find Latin names boring, in fact they are the most precise and also it is convenient when the whole world is looking at your videos, for example I am from France, and with the Latin names we are certain to speak the same language ! thanks for your precious advices !
For those watching this, these plants need a little more light, at least 6-8 hours of direct sun, protect them from the hottest parts of the afternoon. So full morning and evening sun is ideal. The plants in this video are a etiolated, and this makes them more prone to overwatering and rotting. ONLY water if the leaves get very wrinkly or when you see the Mercedez Benz logo on top of their clear windows. That is a sign that the plant wants water. 3:32, this plant is the mostly etiolated, judging by the stretched foliage. They are hardy down to 32 degrees F and I can vouch for this because I kept mine outdoors year round for the first year of having them. They like the colder weather and this is their growing period, these are quicker to root and can take a lot more water than lithops. They can take full sun all day if they don't experience the blistering hot sun people often get during the summers. On 100f+ days, shade them, they like sun but not heat. Winter here is their growing season, I am in California, I find they need water more during the winter when they are actively growing; and less watering in the summer because the plants are dormant. I water every roughly every 2 weeks during may-september and every week or so the rest of the year, unless it rains. I only water this frequently because of the conditions of my area.
I misspoke again! These are zone 9 NOT zone 5! The hardiness down to 32 degrees is correct, but that is a zone 9. We live in a zone 5 and I just misspoke and told you our zone instead of the plants zone. Sorry you guys! 😘
Hello. I know this video is old but I really appreciate it. I can't find part 2, I'm wondering if maybe I'm just dumb haha. I have a chronic illness and if I made videos like this they would probably be in bed or on the couch a lot of the time, so I REALLY appreciate you giving voice and visibility to this reality!
Just found your videos and you are very informative. Just bought my first baby toes about a month ago and everything was going wonderful… And within 45 days they were all wilting and looking awful so of course I immediately watered but I think I made things worse. They are very limp and laying over and look sickly so I thought well maybe I could propagate… I am noticing that new growth is coming in between two Fingers or the crotch of the plant I know that sounds gross. Do you know what I’m talking about? Do you have any advice on how to save one? I live in a town where we don’t have very many plant stores so I really don’t want to lose this beauty.
Mine is a drama queen. Out of my 50+ succulent/cacti she gets cursed at the most! Pretty sure saying "I hope your roots rot in hell" is part of its care
I'm really fat on the date but mine rotted off I'm assuming one still attached I replanted it in a new pot . 3 inchs cuz roots are 2 .. and I have one still attached ...... I dryer the others and put them in dirt
I have kept fenestraria (species unknown) for a few years, mine and all the ones I have seen in cultivation including the one in this video grow differently to in the wild it seems. In the wild they grow nearly fully buried with only the clear tips visible but in cultivation most of the plant is above ground. I grow mine outdoors in a greenhouse with sandy soil, high light and little fertiliser. Dose anyone know why this is as I’d like to replicate there natural form?
Conditions in a pot is very different to that of growing in the ground. That is why it’s common practice to grow baby toes not submerged or partially buried up to the windows.

I had difficulty growing these but now I think it was due to overwatering. I sure have a hard time determining when these need water though.
This one needs watering as it is wrinkling
