SOMATIC MEDITATION | Release Anxiety From Your Body

  • Check out this somatic meditation to release fear and anxiety from the body.
We are living in uncertain times, indeed. With virtually the entire planet experiencing a global pandemic, businesses being shut down, cities and entire countries on lockdown, it's natural that worry and anxiety would set in.
But living in fear is not helpful. And you don't have to let it take over.
Somatic meditation -- at least my version of it -- uses strategies that calm your nerves at the biological level. So, rather than try to control your thoughts which can be like herding squirrels (and yes, I have experience with that -- don't ask), we create calm at the cellular level which automatically soothes your anxious, worried brain.
Watch this video for a full somatic meditation experience. Feel free to share it with anyone that needs this kind of support.

Hey! I’m autistic with rare genetic disease, and now have chronic fatigue and pain. I find this approach more helpful than anything else I’ve ever worked with. After years of psychologists trying to get me to work “in my head” and verbalise my cognitions etc, and me feeling that my “fight/flight” was physical and in a different “place”, this type of work finally gives me a way of making sense of exactly what is going on in my body, without feeling like I’m being gaslit. It’s so truly beautiful to feel calm, as I’ve spent literally my whole life feeling like I’m about to be hit by a car. Thank you!

I'm crying at first I thought it was sadness and than I realized it is a happy cry for you. You found something that helps you and that makes my heart happy. My son is severely autistic, he is 9 and is non-verbal , so, he growls as his for of communication. I don't know why I'm rambling on, I'm sorry. I am truly happy for you. I'm trying it tonight for the first time.

I just did this. I have struggled with anxiety for a long time, and C-PTSD. After exhaling all that breath, every in breath I just sobbed. Not sure if that’s a common response, but it was definitely emotional for me. Feeling like I had a bit of a release ❤️ thank you

I feel like you just saved my life and allowing me to see me for the first time. I accidentally found one of your other videos after starting to see a health/relationship pattern. I did the vagus nerve techniques and for the very first time I felt all of this warmth and peace come over me. Nothing has ever made me feel so calm. I then did several other videos of yours and had one the deepest hardest cries of my life. Today I did another one of your vagus nerve videos and noticed (eyes/ears) I have the warmth near the most. Almost like the hurt we have heard and the pain we have seen. My eyes no longer jump all over the place. I'm not sure if it's from doing these exercises but I am starting to be able to smell now. I thought it was from my allergies but I think bc I'm breathing through my nose now that it's waking that up too. Thank you for choosing this passion and sharing it with the rest of us. No Dr has ever mentioned anything like this. My pain was abandoning myself. I have forgiven myself bc at that time and age I obviously wasn't mentally able to process the trauma. I'm just glad I still have time to love myself the way I have loved everyone else for so long. Thank you.

I have a condition called adrenal fatigue, and I have suffered with it for 10 years, but most of my life I have CPSD, and was diagnosed with that in 1986, but they didn’t call it CPSD they called it PTSD, my health started failing, I finally was able to find someone to help me with my adrenal fatigue, but my nervous system was just so over active, that then I had to have eye surgery, which compounded my nervous system issues, and I finally was able to hear about this type of meditation, and it is the most wonderful system that I have used so far, it has brought me down from the fighter flight, Since my eye surgery, and I kept crashing with my adrenals, and realized that my nervous system was just so tight that my muscles were rigid, that includes my bowels… But this has softened my body so much ….I do it once a day, and then another one that you have Suki I use in the evening, thank you so much for sharing these with us, who Can’t afford to, or can’t find anyone that does this in our area, thank you, thank you, the second time I use this, I started crying… Wonderful work, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I noticed a feeling like bottled up tears in my face and head and noticed that I thought of it as 'pain,' but it wasn't really physical pain and so I suddenly wasn't sure what it was except that it was uncomfortable. I wondered why the tears were bottled up. I knew the source of them, my father's frequent irritation with me and anger at me, and realised that what had always been hardest to face in this was the idea that I was a victim, which I seemed to be ashamed of. So I thought, well, why not just let myself call myself a victim then, since I was victimised? And then I had a really great cry.

( change perception of your dads anger.......think of it as Worry he has abt you ......or he sees himself in you......good luck

@@rhondapelletier2141 Thank you. Little triggers for this come up sometimes and spark a reaction - this was a really good one - but most of the time I'm so 'good at' suppressing it that I don't even think of it. It's a little frustrating, the sense that there's a job there that needs doing and could deliver great benefits, but I'm never sure how to get started (I've had lots of therapy). Ultimately, it seems one needs to think of these things more consciously so as to be able finally to let them go and move on to other thoughts.
Recently, watching a kids film, a very good one, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, I realised that his frequent negativity about my plans when I was getting ready to leave home were probably his mixed up way of saying he didn't want me to go. That was helpful in line with what you say about changing perception.

Thank you for this! I’ve had chronic anxiety for the past 10 years and this really helped. I started off with tension and pain in my back and by the end I was enjoyably relaxed and calm and centred. I’m going to try to make this a daily practice. I’m sick of living in survival mode, ten years + (I’m 33 now) is far too long for anyone. I’ve made bad choices and stifled myself creatively due to being in survival mode 24/7, including self medicating. I’m almost 6 years clean but still rely on my meds to ease the anxiety to a level where I can function, but even then a normal life leads to burnout quickly. Anxiety is like being in a prison and it’s sad to watch everyone else enjoying themselves, getting married etc when they very day is a battle and living in the mind rather than in the Present. Appreciate the video, one of the best meditations I’ve found on UA-cam and I try to do one a couple times a week. The gated exhalation really helped me to find comfort and serenity, I will be using that in future while meditating. I always have tried just to be mindful of the inhalation and exhalation and try not to slow or deepen on purpose. Have a lovely day!

This is wonderful. I never realized that I don't exhale fully when I'm in that stressed state. What a difference it made to really exhale. Thank you!

    • @honeychurchgipsy6
      @honeychurchgipsy6 Рік тому +3

@Carrie Libowicz - I realised a while ago that it was the exhale that was restricted with me, especially at times of anxiety.
Since my teenage years I have suffered with the feeling that I could not get 'over' my breath (hope that makes sense, it's the only way I can describe the feeling), and this feeling of restriction would then lead me to a feeling that I could not breathe at all - a panic if you like.
Understanding that it was the exhale and not the inhale that was the real problem was the first step to preventing these 'attacks'.
I still feel that my exhale gets restricted/trapped in my body but doing breathing exercises and meditation has helped hugely.

I love this! I'm wondering if anyone has experienced an abundance of anxiety after meditating? I found something online called 'stressed induced relaxation'. Whenever I focus on breath or do anything really soothing, it only creates anxiety, which makes me stress out about simple things I usually wouldn't be stressed over and it lasts days or longer. It's like my nervous system is so raw that relaxation has the opposite effects.

    • @AlisonSolo
      @AlisonSolo 2 роки тому +2

I have experienced this myself. I notice that it depends on what I do right after the meditation. If I look at my phone, I’ll start to panic. I think it makes sense that sometimes we can feel extra stressed out or anxious after a meditation because we have brought “stuff” to the surface.

    Well, that was great!
I meditate 'better' with guided meditations, and I have loved learning and practicing different types and approaches. At some point i became interest in the current vagal research/theories, which might have prompted the algorithm to pop up one of your videos.
I learned traditional Buddhist insight meditation first, where the body sensation is felt, but not at all 'manipulated', and trust in the natural order of 'trauma' in all variations slowly unraveling, is cultivated. So my inquisitive rational mind loves all the explanations and direct access and intentional input to the vagus. And your calm voice and energy are great for this. Huzzah to introverts.
Thank you so much @Sukie Baxter!

I just want to share what just happened to me. This totally worked, but not how I expected. The "sensation" I was sitting with was all through my abdomen, and the longer I sat, the higher it rose, upward and outward to my sides. I feared it would consume all of my organs. Eventually, I got up and ran from the TV, saying, "I can't take it anymore!"
As soon as I did that, the action itself felt so unloving towards Sukie, as if I was rejecting her love, that it broke down the wall, and I cried. Then I finally understood the emotion underneath my anxiety. It began with my mother.
Miraculously, that unbearable, gripping, all-consuming feeling is gone, at least for now. Now I know just what to do and think about next time it comes up to release it...until it's all gone.
I expected to feel better after this, but I did not expect to be absolutely healed!! Haha. Thank you for your healing, loving energy, Mama Sukie. 💛🧡🩷

Last night I was struggling with anxiety and on the brink of a panic attack and I listened to your video and afterwards felt an amazing shift. I feel that hasn't yet happened yet (outside of taking a pill). So doing that naturally was amazing. Thank you so so so much.

My daughter emailed me a link to your vegus nerve reset link on youtube. Firstly, I'm fortunate to have such a daughter that shares with me what works for her. I have dealt with limited range of motion in my neck for years. This exercise, to my surprise works. Thank you. I'll be using it daily. Secondly, after watching and doing the first exercise, I was intriqued and moved on to the 2nd video on the ears. Sold again! Thank you for showing your seasoned and new Subcribers how to relieve stress, and tension from past, present, and current trauma from our systems. And thanks again to my dear daughter "Venus".

Thank you for your wonderful videos teaching how to release severe anxiety by connecting with my body again in this way. I also tried your stretching video previously to this one. Very powerful. I look forward to incorporating this into my daily practice of prayer and mindful Meditation to see how the relationship may improve releasing the stress and anxiety. I did notice what you said at the end of the season about that feeling of self expansion... For me it was dynamic and very profound. Thank you for sharing this practice.

Oh wow, thank you ! It worked ! :) I feel relaxed and my breathing pattern is totally different now then it was before. My anxiety attacks appear out of nowhere, like one before this exercise, so I am really happy, that it can be reversed.

Hi Sukie. I just found you on here today and so glad I did! I've been suffering from severe anxiety, it comes and go but now that I'm going through chemotherapy for breast cancer, it's been non-stop. Ive been doing yoga, meditation but never knew about the nervous system connection. Thank you for this beautiful practice & meditation. I also will do your other exercises. Thanks so much!! 🙏💕

This time my mind didn't wander there, I think it didn't I had done the exercises in Susie other video for anxiety where you turn your eyes. I just want everyone to feel better like I do. Thanks

I woke up late at nyt feeling panicked and scared and crying praying god to help me then after 20mins into this I feel better.
Good thing is that I was aware about the effects of this meditation nd immediately searched for it.
Also found a strong limiting belief in this chaos lurking at the corners of my mind while I was doing d meditation "I need to keep worrying, if I am in d moment it would be hard to prepare n protect" a good way to counter this is "I release d need to worry, I am safe, I feel safe" repeat this as much as u can for days non stop.
    Read louise hay books.
THANKS SUKIE I feel calm now and can go back to sleep. U don't know how grateful I am to u ❤ I will remember u bcz u caught me wen I felt like I was falling 🥲 Love u❤
I did the entire meditation except last 10mins, instead of facial massage I let my attention focus on my senses. Do what feels right to u then work your way up from der.
    Love from India 🇮🇳
