I have ALWAYS stated that Africa Twin Adventure Sports with 19 inch front wheel would be perfect as it would make the handling better, the center of gravity lower and make the bike more approachable. It is great to see this change finally arrive!

Also the weather seal around the USB is a dreadful design as it kinks the cable immediately after the plug. Very un-Honda. I get through cables every 6 months as they break internally.
Worth mentioning the tubeless rims, I’d say? Also what about the weight? My old DCT was 242kg and it did feel a touch underpowered I thought. Overall though, nice review as always and with that front wheel I think Honda will seem even more. Except £17.5k…? 🤔

Love it apart from the out-dated combo of LCD and TFT screen - one screen with do, not two screens both showing the speed that don't update at the same time as the speed changes.
@@Jubelly The main display needs to be configurable so that when in Apple or Android mode or whatever, user selectable info can be overlaid in the corner such as speed, gear, rpm etc - lots of TFT technology available to do this already out there in the market, Honda just don't want to spend the money updating is all. When they do, I'll probably pull the trigger.
Gear and speed is on the second screen, just not rpm. The system works great as it is. My main TFT I mostly have Waze displayed, but you can easily flip the main screen between Car Play and the inbuilt mode screens with a touch of function switch without even taking your hand off the bars. Everything is at your fingertips on this bike, just got to get used to using it. It’s a good system.
@@GeeBeeMike My Audi has everything in one display and can show nav, speed, RPM, gear, MPG etc all at the same time without needing two displays. @@Otto-AutoPilotyes, but the Audi doesn’t show Waze on the LCD all in one. The Honda TFT LCD combo does through wireless car play. Hi there I really think your feedback could help me with a difficult decision I’m making. I’m 6 foot 2, 30 years old, and I’m deciding whether to buy a 2020-2023 model or a 2024. The 2020-2023 Africa size was what mainly drew me to; i liked its 21 wheel too because it inspired me to try off-road more and im sure I’ll like it, although I know that I will mostly drive it on tarmac. With the new model Honda threw me off because it’s actually what I think I’ll need out of this bike, maybe I’ll still be able to approach light off-road while maintaining a good handling on the road, but I’m afraid it is now too small for me or that the smaller front wheel will actually affect the use I could do of it off road in the long run. I don’t know that because I don’t have off-road experience. What model year do you think might suit me the best?
I know it would be a niche market but I’d be interested in a 450cc mini Africa twin. I wouldn’t mind that it’ll be expensive in that category as it would be competing against the new CFmoto 450MT, the little Triumph Scrambler, the KTM390 and Svartpilen 401 etc. If it was well specked it could create its own market to riders like me who already have big bikes for that weekend blast but need a good everyday rider that is easy to commute on, which is light and manageable but yet capable enough to keep us engaged and have a little pride of ownership. A kind of grown up supermoto is what I’ve got in mind.
Thanks again for your very well-balanced review. Just watched it again, after an extended test ride and the following thoughts have surfaced for me. The 2024 Africa Twin is an incredible improvement on the release of the 2020 model when it was upgraded to the current 1,084cc motor. The torque has increased and is much smoother and more measured in its deployment from zero to high rpm. It really is a pearler of a twin motor with a great traditional 'twin' sound with the upgraded 2024 muffler. I'm a fan and a Honda tragic from way back and can hardly wait to own one. I would very much like to buy the '25 model next year. HOWEVER, Honda will NOT be getting my money until at least some or all of the following glitches/negatives are resolved: 1) The atrociously long time it takes to boot the TFT screen and THEN it requires a touch on an 'OK' button before giving you access. WTF Honda?! No other manufacturers spoil the ride experience like this so WTF Honda?! 2) The switchgear needs an overhaul - simplify it AND include backlighting 3) An easy way to get the seat height BELOW 800mm. Please don't try to tell me it can't be done Honda. I'm 5'6" (167cm) and I would like to be able to flatfoot. 795mm seat height is a worthy goal Honda. 4) For the top-of-the-line model (mainly road use owners) ditch those ridiculous spoked wheels and give us some tasteful forged cast aluminium wheels. Cleaning spokes is an absolute nightmare. We already have enough cleaning with the chain drive, so, please Honda - some alloys. 5) For two-up touring it most definitely needs some more power. They should either bump the capacity to 1250cc for another 30hp OR, preferably, finally release the supercharged model on which they hold a Japanese patent and as such has been in development since 2019. One would think that simply in the name of competition with the Multistradas, GS1300s, Triumphs et al, Honda would want to increase the power at least somewhat. It is great for low speed stuff but 2-up with luggage on the highway it does need quite a bit more. Please! (from all reports the supercharger design is for low-mid range torque - not meant to be a high-rev Kawasaki H2 competitor). 6) Not mandatory for my purchase but, with DCT, a reverse gear for parking such a heavy baby would be handy. You'd only need 'impulse power' Scotty :-) 7) Does that great sounding rear muffler really have to be the size of a boat anchor? So there's my list of gripes for a bike I love a lot. My wishlist. How about it Honda - all for '25?
Help me out, I tested the Africa Twin 2024 today. I have an NC750x and my idea is to upgrade. I just loved the teste of the AT. What I noticed is that the engine vibrates more than the NC. Do you think the engine vibrates more than normal? Will It be me the one to find this?
The Africa Twin has a 270 degree 'crossplane' twin cylinder motor. A beloved characteristic of these unique motors is the 'vibe'. They are self balancing and don't require large counter-balancers like a lot of other motors. The "vibrations" you felt are normal and something to be cherished. Aside from a BMW 6-cylinder and some inline fours you wont get a better balanced motorcycle engine, twin cylinder anyway.
I have a multistrada 950 today. I love this bike! It can keep up with any bike in the corners. Only tree problems, offroad, 15 hp and fuel capasity. Will this new AT keep up with a multistrada?
Depends on the kind of roads you ride on. Free open motorways then the Tiger makes sense as it has more power up top. If its tight twisty then Africa twin makes sense as you can power out of corners quicker as it has more bottom end torque. If you do both then Africa twin still makes a case as not everyone wants to do 140mph all day long. And the tiger has an annoying vibration that creeps up around the 5k rpm mark. I ride a 850GS here in India and its much more driveable than my friends Tiger 900 (his words not mine) on the sort of roads we have here. ..Cheers.
Most importantly, it finally had tubeless tires available! Tubes are for dirt bikes. Who wants to remove the wheel to fix a little flat on the way to work?
Am having the 2023 Adventure sport Manual with Quick shifter with a 21 front but really miss DCT as my previous 2 ATs were DCTs. am contemplating on selling it for a 2024 DCT but debating between a standard vs Adventure sport. Obviously wont be doing extreme off roads like Kirian Mirabet but the shorter front suspension of the AS keeps me off.
Yet another of Honda masterpieces , sold a bit above its appropriate deserving cost. A lil cost correction can virtually catapult its sales by several X. Probably Honda sales leadership isnt as good as its engineers.
@@_hold_the_line_ yeah there'll be downsides, but I don't feel like it's a huge deal really. I admit I did seriously damage the electronic suspension adjustment on my 2008 K1200GT with a lot of gravel riding. It seized and couldn't change spring preload anymore. It rode just fine on gravel, even on badly-corrugated gravel. Felt safe & controllable, sometimes even FUN! Michelin Pilot Road2 tyres, I think. The only time it felt sketchy was on a ~17km stretch of fairly wet gravel somewhere in central Tasmania - felt like I couldn't turn back without risking dropping the bike, so I just continued on. I always use waze or calimoto on the tft, so for me the 2 screens is very usefull. The second screen could use an update to make it look more modern
It's better and totally possible and available tech to the masses. I get the Honda system, it's just out of date now and could (should?) be better. All in my opinion of course.
@@Otto-AutoPilotyes, but the Audi doesn’t show Waze on the LCD all in one. The Honda TFT LCD combo does through wireless car play.
I concede the LCD element of the Honda could be improved, but the combo of the two is adequate and works just fine. Previously I didn’t have wireless CarPlay set up on my AT, now I do.
What model year do you think might suit me the best?
everyone says the 19" one is just as capable off road as the 21"
Looks good value, if you had all those feature on a GS (which would be extras) you'd be broke.
Any word on a US release? We didn’t even get the 2023 model
Transalp man...
NX500 mate. The old CB500X used to be called the ‘Halfrica Twin’ for a reason.
How would you pin that against the transalp which is 7k less?
Does the bike automatically lower (or get softer) at stops with the new suspension?
When will it be released in the US? Or will it??
HOWEVER, Honda will NOT be getting my money until at least some or all of the following glitches/negatives are resolved:
1) The atrociously long time it takes to boot the TFT screen and THEN it requires a touch on an 'OK' button before giving you access. WTF Honda?! No other manufacturers spoil the ride experience like this so WTF Honda?!
2) The switchgear needs an overhaul - simplify it AND include backlighting
3) An easy way to get the seat height BELOW 800mm.
You'd only need 'impulse power' Scotty :-)
7) Does that great sounding rear muffler really have to be the size of a boat anchor?
It's a big twin cylinder engine, you're almost certain to get more noticeable vibration than a smaller engine.
Finally it's approachable to me, I'm just lacking 10 grand...
This or an 890 SMT?
Is the android auto/apple carplay still really finicky?
No intention of buying it at all but cool review.
I have a multistrada 950 today. I love this bike! It can keep up with any bike in the corners. Only tree problems, offroad, 15 hp and fuel capasity. Will this new AT keep up with a multistrada?
Makes me wanna buy it🎉🎉🎉
The best bike ever made
What would you choose guys, africa twin or tuger 900 gt pro? 🤔 maybe the new mg stelvio? 😅
I'd go with the Tiger. That triple is way more thrilling than the Honda's boring twin.
I ride a 850GS here in India and its much more driveable than my friends Tiger 900 (his words not mine) on the sort of roads we have here. ..Cheers.
Honda reliability, Tiger for the thrills, Guzzi if you _really_ want to get to know your mechanic.
Looks fab, except that price
Best I start saving
Don’t like the 19 inch front, definitely prefer the 21. I can still rip anywhere anytime with my 21 inch front! Nicer for off-road anyway!
Most importantly, it finally had tubeless tires available!
Tubes are for dirt bikes. Who wants to remove the wheel to fix a little flat on the way to work?
Come on Honda. Still only 101 HP for a 1200? We got 800 parallel twins making more than that now.
Did you not hear him say it's more than enough for you to ride regularly... Unless you race for a living.
NT 1100 or AT AS for street?
Am having the 2023 Adventure sport Manual with Quick shifter with a 21 front but really miss DCT as my previous 2 ATs were DCTs. am contemplating on selling it for a 2024 DCT but debating between a standard vs Adventure sport. Obviously wont be doing extreme off roads like Kirian Mirabet but the shorter front suspension of the AS keeps me off.
Sadly it’s $30 grand in Canada
Is it tall enough at 6'4"
I'm 5'10 on a gd day! I have a 2021 base model. With biking boots on, seat in high position, I can just flat foot both feet!
higher seat if you want mate! easy!
The weight seriously has to go down more
get a translap its far better than this thing.
Hopefully the 2025 comes with adaptive cruise
Awesome reviews ! did Honda improve screen bootup time? thk. Y
Another review said they didn't, unchanged
Loved that vid! Anyone else think, 12 missed called 🤔 😂???
when will this reach the shores of US? :(
Should be in the US by May! Announced 2 days ago (14 February)
In the 80's where Honda use to dominate. Mate, have you seen the 2024 results?
Yet another of Honda masterpieces , sold a bit above its appropriate deserving cost. A lil cost correction can virtually catapult its sales by several X. Probably Honda sales leadership isnt as good as its engineers.
Good review
Now I want to buy that helmet, lol
101bhp 😮 less than my tracer9 i bought for 8900gbp brand new
you won't want to go same places on the tracer, trust me
Thank you
Can U do wheelies with DCT?
Yes! Happened to me, albeit accidentally, when I took out the 2020 version.
I’ve got the 2021 dct and you can absolutely do wheelies!
19/18 tyres?
So, where does the NT 1100 fit in the range?
As an actual tourer for people without adventure pretentions?
@@903lew for people with shorter legs, maybe. My tired old knees don't like being bent like that all the time
NT1100 has a 17 inch front wheel. That means not really made for any gravel roads / off road. Also probably no bash plate and lower ground clearance.
What's that thing people say ... something about taking inappropriate equipment to out-of-the-way places? 🙂Would do it again in a heartbeat
@@jsleeio Aye, no bike perfect for everyone.
too expensive, and there is no 19 wheel on the regular just on the andventure...
perfect bike
Love the T shirt!!!
Unfortunately they have made the model's far to expensive.
Mo power baby! Always need more power
Its too expensive to be honest
Agreed, I'd prefer the regular suspension at a reduced price.
Id prefer standard with a 19inch front wheel. With or without ES.
It's more expensive than any competitor. Even the Ducati Multi. Ridiculous price for a 100hp parallel twin.
@@nicksokolis6343I’d like to think that an overengineered big CC parallel twin is reliable but agreed, too pricey. You start adding on a few features and you’re at $17k / 18k… and honestly the 19in front on the Adventure Sports makes it a bit less appealing in my opinion, but some of the features it has are missing on the standard….
Have you seen the used prices for the Yamaha Tenere 700?
THAT'S overpriced.
Nice bike, my dream bike but expensive. 😅
only 1 comment out of 131 so far mentioning the little front wheel. i think you should stop calling it an adventure bike and call it a dirt road tourer.
At 17k I can get a Tiger GTPro and it will be shaft drive.
No shaft drive on Triumphs
I really don't get this bike. If I wanted to save money and dont need 150+ hp id just get a transalp, and If I wanted a premium full size GT id there are so many choices with or without shaft drive for around the same price give or take...I'm no speed demon but 100hp on a heavy full sized flagship seems a little bit underwhelming, especially haveing the Transalp with the same performance
