I bought this bike purely because of DCT. I’d have gotten a GS, but I have lower back and left leg problems and shifting gears is an issue. So this big girl does it for me. DCT haters, look at the all round picture before commenting. Bravo to Honda for being different
The standard AT 2024 model is an absolute bargain, £13199 with great torquey engine, tubeless rims, cruise control, great fairing/adjustable screen, Apple car play, comfortable seat (it breaks in after a few long rides, great gearbox, rear rack and looks great. Sounds great too with the standard silencer 👍🏻
Very expensive with a few must have options, though. I put one together on the Honda configurator, and got £16000 for the standard version and £20500 for the Adventure Sport. I test rode a standard model a fortnight ago, and I really loved it. But I'll wait until 2026 to buy a 2024 model...
Chris fantastic review thanx...your smiling, sunny disposition even in the rain is beautiful to see. The things you say that may get you into trouble is very enjoyable and thrilling to watch. Much appreciation here from Cape Town, South Africa
When Chris described “Dave’s” characteristics, I thought of a Honda Civic or an Accord (reliable, does everyday things just fine) and then, right after that description, Chris passed a whole troop of Daves, presumably running to the car park 😊 There’s a tiny bit of the Apple vs IBM ad about that.
Great review. The way Honda has gone with the Adventure Sport in 2024 makes even more sense when you look at the upgrades/options on the Standard model. Smart move I reckon.

lol, thank you for your comments. I will be getting my A.T. In a week. Quite a big just up for me. Cb500x to the Africa twin. I do 90/10 riding. Mostly, street touring. 😊
I think you nailed it with calling it a bike you just want to ride everyday. It’s comfortable, handles the roads very well and you can just rip down a trail or dirt road whenever you feel like taking one just to see where it goes or if your adventure buddies call you and want to take a 3 day trip through a BDR. It just plain works and does it very well with the reliability I have come to expect with Honda.
I agree Chris...... I'm not ready to lose my clutch lever for a few more years. Saying that, I've just bought my first bike with a centre stand so who knows what I'll buy next.
You summed up this bike perfectly, I’m a 67 year old with bad knees and back have no interest in going off road, just want a bike that is reliable competent and easy to ride. The ATAS ticks those boxes.
Excellent review - love the honest feedback about the bike and the statements about all the different opinions that folks out there have was a breath of fresh air.

You’d be surprised how many people would want to see an Africa twin vs 890 adv or 1290vs GS drag race or laps around brands hatch or something. Doesn’t always have to be superbikes and supernakeds.
I’ve been looking at this bike for a while. I knew I wanted an adventure bike, but I mostly wanted something that was really comfortable on road that could handle some off roading stuff to get me to cool campsites and so on. I’m not able or interested in developing the skill set needed to thrash a big GS or 1290 and I’m not looking to run the Dakar. I’m also not looking to spend upwards of $30K USD to get all the farkles and then have the increased maintenance costs of a BMW, KTM, or Triumph here in the states. So to get something with electronic suspension, heated grips, cruise control, DCT, Apple CarPlay, and Honda approachability and dependability for less than $19K is just a phenomenal value in my mind. Can’t wait to get one next spring.

Chris, thank you for highlighting the (for me deal-killing) problems with the lack of a clutch on automatic transmission bikes, like Honda's DCT's and all e-motos. Having the ability to disengage the motor from the drive train is something I would think they could do on these bikes, but to my knowledge, none do.
9:00 Funny what you mention here, this is exactly why I got the africa twin. 10:35 I kind of disagree with you there. I really enjoyed the niche that the 'old' non-adventure sports bike resided in. Great review as always - thank you. I like the DCT I have had on an AT and now a 2019 Crosstourer, the earlier versions on the VFR1200F were not so good but Honda have worked at it. I did the Honda off road two day course on an AT with DCT, a good way to see if you like it. Yep, couldn't agree more. Every Dave I've known seems to be a "middle of the road" guy. He doesn't pursue riches and he certainly doesn't want to fall into poverty. Dave just enjoys being in the middle where he doesn't stand out and draw too much attention to himself. And this is why most people enjoy Dave's company. On the other hand, Tom, Dick and Harry seem to get the stranger women. Just saying. Anyhow, the AF seems to have a middle of the road following wherewithal it is just right! Good analogy.
I have a 2022 gs1250 done a few big europe treks, Doing another shorty and the way you describe the africa twin is how I feel about the gs. Not brilliant at anything but good at everything.
An adventure bike designed for how it will be mainly used. Don’t fancy the DCT but if I had issues with arthritis for example, it would be a great option.
I bought a DCT VFR1200X last year, I immediately missed the gear lever, so I bought a foot change lever, riding a DCT with this means you can ride in manual mode as if you're riding with a bike with a quickshifter, but it has made me lazy, when I ride a normal bike with a clutch I forget I have to pull the clutch when coming to a stop, and end up stalling the bike, I'm torn between this Africa Twin and the Guzzi Stelvio, Stelvio demo ride book in 2 days!

in addition to automatic and manual modes, you can also tell the DCT to shift while in automatic mode, and it'll go to the gear you want for a few seconds before going back to the automatic mode logic. pretty cool, but not for me. i rented a rebel 1100 DCT and even on a cruiser i've learned i'm a manual shift person all the way. i don't even like quickshifters. i've had two bikes with QS and i gave it a try for the first few hundred miles each time, to see if it would grow on me, and i wound up turning it off both times. shifting manually is just more fun. i'm not chasing the fastest lap, i'm chasing fun. the automatic was fun for a four day rental, but i would never want it on a bike i owned.
About your comment about taking a DCT Africa Twin out for a Test Ride, that's so BS! I'm 71, been riding since I was 14. I'm still trail riding a 08 KLR650 and street riding a 2010 Harley touring bike. I rode the Harley from Lake City over to 2 different Honda dealerships in Jacksonville Florida last week. (RideNow on Blanding Blvd. and Cycles of Jacksonville on Atlantic Blvd.) Neither one would let me test ride a Africa Twin and both dealers have about $3000 in freight and prep fees tacked on to the MSRP price not to forget the sales tax and registration. They're like $22,000 OTD
The bike uses the 6 axis IMU to turn on the cornering lights and has a light sensor to turn on the main beam when is dark if you are running only in drl .
Also the long range of the AS, looks and reliability. Sure for my money I could have gone for a Vstrom 1050, but I wouldn’t have the looks, CarPlay and long range of fuel.
Cracking bikes and I love the looks of them, the styling is very much on point. Unfortunately they are just a bit too tall and top heavy for me .. and I have no intention of going any further off road than a gravel car park .... so I settled for the NT1100 - same engine and frame but much more road biased with 17" wheels and a proper touring fairing and wind screen. Wider than the AT but not as tall, its still a heavy bike but the weight is low enough for me to manage ... and I still get that lovely big thumping AT engine 😉

What’s the point of apple car play when your phone is right there as well? And I think if you put on a set of knobby tires it gets a lot more off road capability as well.
Honestly I'm kinda disappointed with Honda's lack of major upgrades to Africa Twin platform. I Honestly don't have any kind of issues with its looks; keep it, it's sexy AF; looks both badass and nimble. But it's engine is rather weak compared to other bikes with similar weight class. İt has the power output of an upper-middleweight and the weight of a full size. I wish they would increase the compression rate on the engine; tips way they'd be able to offer more HP from that 1100cc platform. But aside from everything I would at least expect them to put progressive springs on the bike. This alone would make a huge difference 19 inch front on L4 is good, that model is road oriented anyway but a lighter l1 would have been great. Who knows? Maybe a 900cc 12.0+to1 compression ratio would be a better option?
So its basically a Honda being , well , a Honda , should suit me fine being a Dave :) unfortunately this Dave cannot afford this premium machine ! think my transalp is def my Dave bike
I just bought a 2019 AT 200 miles on it by mistake! I only drive it to work and I'm thinking of traveling across states but Im scared to go on the highway. What should I do? Also, I'm thinking about trading it in for Yamaha Xmax. I'm more of a scooter guy!!
Looks like a good all round tourer, but I think I will keep my Tenere 1200 which sounds similar but with shaft drive, less electronics, longer major service interval 42000 km's and less $.
Those 42k kms is a big deal tbh. Though I have a fear we’ll be seeing a lot of these for sale in a few years with about 6000km on them and for those riders it might not be as necessary.

If you had to choose your next "road" adventure bike would you go for 2024 Honda ATAS manual, or 2024 Triumph 900 RP?
Dude, Bat Sabbath FTW 🤘🤘🤘
Honda was curious if they would get back a bent frame. Lol😂
Since there is quickshifter I would never even dream of having a DCT. For more sport oriented drivers, scooter type system is a no go.
It's nothing like a scooter system though. That's what a many don't realise. It's more like the dual clutch, seamless shift that Motogp bikes had.
Best review !
Dont like big tank , higher weith .dct.. Therefore i byed the 2023 standard red , quickchifer , hyperpro rear - 3omm lowerd the frontforks dropped 15mm love the bike , dont like overdoe of the electronics , had only 1 recal to replace tft screen , under warranty , woudend mind to upgrate to the 2024- standard-do😄..greatings from belgium... nb great review btw😎
Chris another great video, when are you hooning on new Husqvarna Svarpilen 801😊😂😂😂
DCT on a Goldwing is a delight
What’s the point of apple car play when your phone is right there as well?
And I think if you put on a set of knobby tires it gets a lot more off road capability as well.
Allows you to keep your phone out of the weather
Hey Chris, How did your Dad feel you naming the bike ‘Dave’ especially with your analogy 😜
Sounds like an updated Yamaha Super Tenere. I would go for the manual version.
Other than the 19" front wheel what is the difference between the 24 and the 22 AT ADVENTURE ES DCT ?
Great video 👍👍
Plz review road and off road test of M1000xr
Honestly I'm kinda disappointed with Honda's lack of major upgrades to Africa Twin platform.
I Honestly don't have any kind of issues with its looks; keep it, it's sexy AF; looks both badass and nimble.
But it's engine is rather weak compared to other bikes with similar weight class.
İt has the power output of an upper-middleweight and the weight of a full size.
I wish they would increase the compression rate on the engine; tips way they'd be able to offer more HP from that 1100cc platform.
But aside from everything I would at least expect them to put progressive springs on the bike. This alone would make a huge difference
19 inch front on L4 is good, that model is road oriented anyway but a lighter l1 would have been great. Who knows? Maybe a 900cc 12.0+to1 compression ratio would be a better option?
Dct ?
Why ?
I love quick shifter.
So its basically a Honda being , well , a Honda , should suit me fine being a Dave :) unfortunately this Dave cannot afford this premium machine ! think my transalp is def my Dave bike
Need a back to back as still hankering after another tiger 900 rally pro.
Feel like this move towards a road bias, will suit more customers to be honest.
I just bought a 2019 AT 200 miles on it by mistake! I only drive it to work and I'm thinking of traveling across states but Im scared to go on the highway. What should I do? Also, I'm thinking about trading it in for Yamaha Xmax. I'm more of a scooter guy!!
WTF !!
Just needs shaft drive and bam. Perfection for touring
For me Apple car play is this bikes biggest selling point, I wish BMW would learn this
Do people commenting not realize you can get this bike with a manual transmission?
how tall are you mate? just to get a reasonable comparison for seat height ?
Dave??!! It really contrasts with Dave K5 the Gixxer from Revzilla.... So what's Dave's real personality?
Looks like a good all round tourer, but I think I will keep my Tenere 1200 which sounds similar but with shaft drive, less electronics, longer major service interval 42000 km's and less $.
Those 42k kms is a big deal tbh. Though I have a fear we’ll be seeing a lot of these for sale in a few years with about 6000km on them and for those riders it might not be as necessary.
why they switch to 19? i also dont know. will wait for the 21 to come back
They have a 21 also.
Hey Chris…It’s Dave. How the f- did you describe me so perfectly?
Can you do a honde bol with that bike
13:54 this scene in particular makes it look like a police bike. especially with the frame rate mismatch making the running lights strobe.
Does it sit as high?? The AT was so tall
