FrobblOo The issue isn't that it's a complete culture overhaul though, there will always be friendly people and there will always be snobby anti social cunts, sure. Nostalgia obviously plays part in the sadness and happiness that this video brings, but it's a fact that drug culture runs far more rampant these days, and with the advent of social media, more and more people are beginning to feel a false sense of entitlement. When I go out, sometimes I'll have an absolute fucken blast, but more often than not, I run into a large amount of people with superiority complexes that can only be attributed to internet culture that has only emerged over the last 5-10 years. So of course we can still find friendly fun seekers and party like its 1987 today, it's just that they aren't as prevalent.
Maybe it's not only nostalgia.... I feel like so many things are so much better today : fashion, food, style in general, technology of course. Thanks to the internet, our lives have been improved A LOT : we can learn everything. How to speak a language, how to cook, how to style our hair and put our make up on, how to start a business, how to make a world tour.... Being a teenager was a nightmare till a few years ago. Except for a small minority from the upper class, nobody knew what to do with their hair, with their bad skin.... Young people were a lot more socially awkward because they couldn't improve their social skills on the internet. STILL, even if technically, except for music, a lot of things sucked..... the MINDSET was different. The 80's were about EXCITEMENT.... people felt like the world entered a new era of modernity and there was that "everything is possible" feeling. Now the most overwhelming feeling is FEAR..... fear of the future, of terrorism, of demography, of poverty. My mom always told me how young people didn't think about their old days during the 80's; Never. People didn't even think about buying houses..... renting was enough. People didn't think about the future, and that's a pretty strong indicator of a happier time for me.
People have been complaining about the old days being better since the dawn of time. Folks in this comment section are only remembering the good of this decade and not the bad.
Little did they know 33 years later they’d be seen by millions on someone’s hand held TV that’s the size of a remote control, with no wires, connected to the sky.
John Doe I wish I could have been a teenager during this time period or the 70s. Maybe it's because I have an older parent that is of that time period. My generation is so different. Life seems like it has a different vibe to it

We also have smartphones to dissociate from our surroundings. We as a result only end up caring to talk to who we know instead of the random behind us on line.
What a good time to be alive. Things were very much the same, but people through the means of technology were 100x less tainted. People were actually honest, candid and almost completely friendly. We all had much thicker skin and were less manipalted thought-wise so it was easier for us all to get along back then too...

Nwerdmeansninja Official - I know east coast of America is like this all day. I remember my first time stepping foot into New York City me and my friends walked in a gas station next door to our hotel, it was literally the first place we went when we got there. Not even 30 minutes from landing at the hotel. When we got to the gas station, some drunk dude at the gas station was pouring alcohol in our mouths and running around and everyone was having fun. He was running around the streets screaming, the cops just smiled and walked past. We found weed. We bought a homeless guy some chocolate bars. We saw some homeless dude take a shit on the sidewalk infront of us and we all started laughing including the homeless guy 😂. When we found a spot to smoke, some couple was already there smoking and they started talking to us. And that was the first night being in new you’re city. Probably not even 2 hours into the night, and it was a Thursday 😂😂 memories are our real treasure

I would say this video depicted real life up until about 2001 or so --- I can remember going into a nightclub in 1999 and "dirty dance" grinding up on about 10 girls' asses as the music thumped and they didnt complain at all --- these days I would be handcuffed and charged with rape

This is how life used to be whenever I was a kid growing up. I was born in 1990 in my entire childhood was in the 90s and early 2000s so I'm speaking from experience when I say that people were completely different back then. It wasn't perfect but society was at peace with itself and people were accepting of differences and even celebrated them. I used to come across thousands of different personalities with people who believed and did whatever made them into themselves. Authenticity was a large part of daily life and no one *had* to be somewhere or be doing something. Life was just living it and just accidentally doing something and having surprise get togethers and parties with friends and family. Having all of the cousins coming over to your house and playing N64, Halo on Xbox, Mario Party for days lol. Everyone would just suddenly appear and have fun and then disappear whenever they needed or wanted. People always invited you to go somewhere and just hang out but now the hyper entertainment cravings make people incapable of wanting something like this anymore.
This is actually the most wholesome video on UA-cam. In 1987, at 2:30AM, at this 7-11, a group of people were totally carefree, being friendly to each other, and living in the moment.
The innocence of this video is overwhelming. Makes me really respect unconditional friendliness of some people and the beauty of several strangers realizing they're all human. I also appreciate videos like this because it gives me a window into life right before my own existence, which generations prior couldn't have this opportunity. Thank you Chris!
Trevor Kohne technology/social media and all the expectations these days have really upped the anxiety of people... we're way too caught in our own bubble/problems and it's always beautiful to see people like in the video just being high on life :)
All I can do is view this time through the window of social media. In a way, social media hasn't been the evil thing that everyone might say because it's the exact thing that I'm using to have this opportunity and respond to this comment.
That's inflation for ya. It's especially jarring when you see old western movies where they fully expect to live the rest of their lives on about 500 dollars.
This is a special video that I come across every so often and watch in entirety each time. It's like a warm blanket. I want to step through the screen into 1987 and enjoy a more care-free life. Just gotta make sure not to meet one year old me.
I hate to break it to you, but there was no shortage of assholes in 1987. I was in 9th grade, and was having my lunch money extorted by a bully, and was about to start my job at Mcdonalds, where i was treated like crap on a daily basis.

Oh the 80’s… an era I’m not from but it seems like such an amazing place to be. No phones to be found.
It was. I can lend you my DeLorean, but its time components are set to only go to 1985. That was the peak for games, movies, and fun, though. :)
This video is so pure omg
It is but more importantly, the time was more pure. America was better then. People were better then.
Of course it was!... people were so much more calm and collected, no one was going to record a Karen yelling for the manager... Cameras 📸 were expensive to take pictures, much less record if you had a camcorder on hand, not many people did. The Internet ruined almost everything.
@@heytheremclovinbut you would never see that video without the internet ! It would have been sad that this masterpiece stays unseen from the world.

It's amazing how much more laid-back and fun-loving people were back then. I'd love to go back.
Except that one dude buying milk. He looked kinda pissed at first. lol
This is wonderful. Strangers lightheartedly poking fun at each others differences, finding humor in their environment, enjoying candy and cigarettes. "Just being crazy kids."
It's really all due to the wildly charismatic camera man. He's enganging with people like a pro reporter.
Such a colourful vibrant atmosphere on this video, unlike these days.
FrobblOo I can tell you're an absolute delight to be around.
FrobblOo WORLD STAR!!!!!
Folks in this comment section are only remembering the good of this decade and not the bad.

actually no. I agree with you to an extent. people don't welcome randoms like they used to. disregard my last comment.
i think a lot of the reason why people don't welcome randoms also has to do with the political climate, everyone is very hostile and on edge
im shooketh that definitely hasn't helped things. There's a divide right now that has split up our country. So much venom being spewed on both sides. I just sit back and shake my head. Cheers to you.
@natalie garavagno I've lived in the south my entire life, and while there is still some old time culture around, it's becoming less and less common.
@natalie garavagno Oh yeah, I can see that.. I grew up in Florida, then Nashville TN, now Greenville SC, and we're prob more laid back and friendly than the rest of the country.. but not by much. I prefer the old fashioned lifestyle of actually knowing your neighbors first name, but with people's faces glued to smart phones and Instagram and Facebook all day, it's harder for that to happen. Every Christmas I'm surprised by how exactly 0 kids are outside playing.. it's unreal to me. And I'm only 31.

People were so much more sociable. Shit looks straight out of a movie
