I had Hibiki Harmony for the first time this weekend and it’s so soft and easy. Compared it with glenmorangie nectar d'or which is one of my favorite whiskeys and Hibiki Harmony so much feels lighter and easier with a bit more character. Like them both.
“Band aid” flavor is from chloropenols, which can be detected and measured objectively. Human taste sensitivity to phenols is variable, smoke flavors are also phenols (guaiacol).
@Bernd DasBrot It tastes like a bandage smells. Kind of hard to explain beyond that. Its hard to understand and explain flavors and smells that people dont normally associate with things we ingest.
I really want to try standard Hibiki Harmony but cant find a sample size anywhere, Started getting into whiskey as I wanted a chill out sipping drink for the end of the day and didnt want something full of sugar like the disaronno or ginger wine I was drinking before. I've now tried alot of bourbons and beginner whiskeys like the ones suggested in your videos and didnt fall in love with anything then tried lagavulin 8 after watching your noob video. And realised it's the more challenging tastes I prefer, I think. So far really enjoyed, johnnie walker double black, lagavulin 8 (couldn't get hold of a small bottle of 16), and edradore caledonia. About to try the Dalmore 15 after seeing your Dalmore video. Hoping it's going to be another winner. Keep up the informative and entertaining work. Love your videos. You magnificent bastards!!! :)
I bought this Whisky on a tax-free in France. Still one of my favourites that I only give away to good friends or special occasions. Mine does not have the Sakura petal motief though
Hibiki Harmony is my favorite and I REALLY want that bottle! Sad that it is only available in Duty Free shops as I don't fly often, and especially not going to happen this year with everything going on. Who knows if I'll ever see a real one... At least we have your reviews!
I love your videos Daniel and rex could please make a video explaining why you shouldn't freeze whiskey and why it destroys or enhances the flavor of a frozen whiskey, maybe even have 2 bottles of a easy to get bottle whiskey that anyone can get and review frozen vs neat
The fingers thing is like a spinning circle in windows. It's just his way of processing and analytics. I do the same and usually look up and away while i process and figure out flavors in both food and drink.
Hibiki is decidedly a delicate and delicious Japanese whiskey, but at about 7:44 you suggested it as one that's not too hard to come by, and that hasn't been my experience. Maybe it's just the Northeast, but up here you can't find it for love nor money, aside from in a few restaurants. Harmony is a great sipping option for a warm spring sunset, out in a chair somewhere digging the last of the evening's light.
Daniel i was completely influenced, trusting your amazing pallet, to get the original longmorn 16 and i love it although now i really want something as good as or better? Whats the best whisky you mbs have had?
I just had a thought listening to this about finishing. Are there any whiskeys finished/aged in gin barrels? I could imaging a peated whiskey ageing in a gin barrel could be really cool with the smoke and the pine. Maybe kinda a forest fire effect maybe?
Hibiki has the most beautiful bottles. I was admiring mine while I edited my latest video about Japanese whisky. Wouldn't have known enough to make it if it weren't for these magnificent bastards!
Watching this a few months later and waxing non-nostalgic over the virus precautions. They were needed, but it makes me think of the dark times, not the good ones. Though the editing was great, huhm I wonder what the two of them would look like in the first Whiskey anime games...
Isn't Japanese whisky typically supposed to be boring? I've had some of the Suntory and it was just light and citrusy. I enjoyed it but it's a unique thing. A good summer drink.
I have a question.... In my collection I have these a pint or 5th of Early times bourbon from 1971 in opened with tax stamp over the cap. What are your thoughts on sampling....????
In all of your old videos there is one bottle that's stendsout and it is the glenmorangie milsean and i can't find the videos that you are trying it please review it ASAP!!!
I do use a Hibiki Harmony bottle for my infinity bottle, because its design is so interesting. Can't say I've ever tasted band-aid in a whisky, but have certainly smelled it, Monkey Shoulder included.
Holy crap I always try to have a drink as I watch a new video from you guys but its 8am in Vancouver and I just got back from work. If I am I alcoholic or just a devoted fan? Lol
I miss being able to buy Hibiki 17 for around 80 bucks, and the 21 for a couple hundred. 😭😭😭 The harmony release is fine and all but nothing like the aged ones.
22yo Connemara!?!😳.... Why can't I find anything but their basic 40%... Damnit??.... Still one of my favorites to drink but I'd love to try a stronger or older version 😔
Idea for a video! Try out the random new Japanese whiskeys coming out that seem to be trying to cash in on the hype. Let us know if they're worth it! I'm nervous to gamble that kind of money. Many are expensive. I feel as if I might be missing out on the next Hibiki 17 while it's still available with these new Japanese whiskeys that keep popping up. Is this distillery legit? Or are they cash grab artists?
May seem a strange thread to start but as a Japanese girl living in Scotland I am interested to know how much regularly available whiskies cost in your own countries. Not outlandish, just regular liquor store bottles. Scotland recently passed a law that alcohol must have a minimum retail price of 50p per unit of alcohol. Booo 😢 So a 1L (quart) bottle of name brand blended Scotch costs £20 ($25) A standard bottle of Highland Park 12yo would run £20 to £25 here ($25 to $30). Something higher end like Ardbeg 10yr is about £40 ($50)
Is it true that Suntory is just getting batches from their Scottish distilleries and landing it into Japan soil, then officially calling it Japanese whisky?
Hey love your videos. Got myself a Mooch story. One night I was wondering through the night and stumbled into a bar. Ordered a couple of drinks and started talking to the owner. We bonded over whisky, especially since I was interested in Islay. Long story short got to try a Dun Eideann Islay Single Malt distilled at Port Ellen (1980 batch). It was honestly one of the best whiskies I’ve tried. Smoky, smooth and complex.
The normal Harmony is probably the prettiest whisky I've had. I just sort of feel that for spending that amount of money on a bottle ($112 CAD here) I'd rather something more adventurous and interesting. It's like getting a really amazing hug... this is great an all but let's kick it up a notch.
Not sure how to contact you direct, so here goes. I am going to be making vanilla extract. Needed, a sweet bourbon. No over powering flavors, so I was thinking wheated. Something near $20 would be good enough for this. Think home made chocolate chip cookies.
I was gone for a few months what just happened? What’s with the couch? Editing? And just weird view now?? Maybe both should just sit? Or stand or give me a few months to decide if I like it or not? Soooo before I even posted this I realize why this is going on alright social distancing. Weird though lol
I miss the cardboard "subscribe" sign poorly hung in the background
Coach Jeremy top right corner
Got confused for a second. I was expecting a Skullet... then I remembered you batch film these.
Same, "Wtf is wrong with Rex's hair!" Nothing? That is the problem! My brain thinks the videos are in real time all the time.
LOL I was doing the same thing. All excited to see the first episode with skullet and bam! Denied!
When Daniel's hand motion becomes an anime character.
How long until we got Whiskey Tribe anime waifu [god I hate myself for the mental image I have now - so enjoy my despair THANK ABOUT IT]
best part of the episode
I'm loving the editing these days. :)
You guys nailed it. Great job! Can't describe it any better.
Heh, little bit of Initial D at 8:34 for a Japanese whisky, nice Dan.
Dang, you beat me to it haha
The zoom in edits and effects are solid! Entertaining & solid!
I have opened this bottle in Japan. Your explanation of this whisky is very clear and is what I want to share my whisky lover friends.
I had Hibiki Harmony for the first time this weekend and it’s so soft and easy. Compared it with glenmorangie nectar d'or which is one of my favorite whiskeys and Hibiki Harmony so much feels lighter and easier with a bit more character. Like them both.
The editing on this video is great! Keep it up ♥️
Also the editing on this video is A++
loving the hand cam, fancy dan
Whoever’s doing your editing is doing an AMAZING job. I already enjoyed the videos before, but the editing is taking them to another level!
Always good editing on this channel.
“Band aid” flavor is from chloropenols, which can be detected and measured objectively. Human taste sensitivity to phenols is variable, smoke flavors are also phenols (guaiacol).
@Bernd DasBrot i dont get it either
@Bernd DasBrot It tastes like a bandage smells. Kind of hard to explain beyond that. Its hard to understand and explain flavors and smells that people dont normally associate with things we ingest.
Adrenaline Junkie I just tell people if I can smell something well enough, I can taste it as well by association.
I simply guess he is asking if there is any Laphroaig inside Monkey Shoulder 😉
My guess would me: It is not. Otherwise i would like Monkey Shoulder. 🤣
I love the new animations focusing on Daniel’s idiosyncrasies. Job well done in the editing room.
The edit on this video is amazing
I lobe the little edits.
I got one of these this year for my birthday before the world went crazy and its a really, really smooth and delicate whisky
Love how they zoom in on hand gestures 😄. Posted about this on the fb page last week

It's 1am in Japan when this was released. I passed that bottle at a store a few months ago and didn't grab it. Now I can't...
Crazy right lol “borders are closed? Let’s review a delicious duty free whiskey”
But if you came in, your going out - you got another chance to get to that duty free shop brethren!!!
Love the edits
Damn, the editing has started to go wild lately
Fancy Dan, has brought things back to a good level... He is getting away with shenanigans that the Trash Panda never would have.
@@nicholaspage5593 hahahah
I bet his experience with the hardcore whiskeys gave him a real good boost to edit the shit out of every episode.
I love the editing.
I'm liking the editing... Adds something when it starts to get stale
I bought this Whisky on a tax-free in France. Still one of my favourites that I only give away to good friends or special occasions.
Mine does not have the Sakura petal motief though
The special edition bottles are travel exclusives, but its the same juice. People usually buy those for display and never open them.
Hibiki Harmony is my favorite and I REALLY want that bottle! Sad that it is only available in Duty Free shops as I don't fly often, and especially not going to happen this year with everything going on. Who knows if I'll ever see a real one... At least we have your reviews!

Great editor xD the De Ja Vu insert killed me
I'd be super interested in an update of the infinity bottle for 2020 it must be to a good size by now.

Whiskey Vault, It must be that time of day for a glass of whiskey
hibiki is my favourite whisky by far!!
Wow, Rex is even mooching the questions now.
Hey guys nice videos man. Greeting from germany
Daniel i was completely influenced, trusting your amazing pallet, to get the original longmorn 16 and i love it although now i really want something as good as or better?
Whats the best whisky you mbs have had?
I'm going to need this bottle
Good editing
I feel like the editor was having a lot of fun with this one lol.
Today on whiskey vault, fancy dan goes full fancy.
was literally looking at where to get a bottle of hibiki near me after watching an older episode of whisky vault 6 hours ago its a sign lol
It’s thin, it’s clear, it’s clean. The family crowd loves it, I love it! LAX-NRT= Hibiki Juan.
I heard it is near impossible to get. Would be shocked if available at duty free.
Really surprised this one hasn’t come up for review sooner
I just want that bottle!!! So dope! Haha
Legend... Wait for it
...Dairy!!
I just had a thought listening to this about finishing. Are there any whiskeys finished/aged in gin barrels? I could imaging a peated whiskey ageing in a gin barrel could be really cool with the smoke and the pine. Maybe kinda a forest fire effect maybe?
Didn't realize what I was looking at for a few minutes, but having two different cameras made it seem like Rex dwarfs Daniel even more 😬😅😅👍
Fancy Dan is having too much fun editing
오늘도 재미있게 보고 갑니다~^^
Wish I could find regular harmony again but it’s gone in my area.
If you like speysides and want to try a japanese, definitely check out the Nikka Coffey Grain!
The normal Masters Select is about 120,-€ in Germany...THIS version is the limited edition for about 500,-€! Only mentioning...
Hibiki has the most beautiful bottles. I was admiring mine while I edited my latest video about Japanese whisky. Wouldn't have known enough to make it if it weren't for these magnificent bastards!

When Rex mentioned the whiskey patina ...I heard it to the tune of funky cold Madina! Lol...."that funky malt patina!"
Same
Another episode to fall in love with whisk(e)y with. Yes... Just the whisk(e)y ;)
Sounds very similar to the Suntory Toki review you guys did, love the vid!
they are distilled by the same company so that could be a contributing factor, i love me some toki gotta go try the hibiki.
patrick cootey only thing stopping me is toki is roughly 30 a bottle, and hibiki is 70-80 😅
Go for the Nikka malt (not the grain) if you can get it.
1:06 it's the small things in life that make you smile. Editor +1 points.
"For relaxing times ....make it Suntory time" Katto, Katto Katto!!
Japanese whiskey is the one style that I have yet to really get into. Haven’t had many examples and just haven’t cared for what I’ve tried
Isn't Japanese whisky typically supposed to be boring? I've had some of the Suntory and it was just light and citrusy. I enjoyed it but it's a unique thing. A good summer drink.
Do you guys need distillery aged bottles or would you evaluate an infinity bottle?
I have a question....
In my collection I have these a pint or 5th of Early times bourbon from 1971 in opened with tax stamp over the cap.
What are your thoughts on sampling....????
Wow, didn’t know that my subtle observation with Daniel’s fingers would get attention like this🤷🏽♂️🧐😎🧔🏽
I got my Brother a neat ppur of Harmony, he was blown away as he had no idea Whiskey could taste like that.
Man I need to find hibiki Harmony again. And I need more money shoulder.
How does this compare to the regular Hibiki Harmony??? Worth the unicorn hunt if one enjoyed the OG??
In all of your old videos there is one bottle that's stendsout and it is the glenmorangie milsean and i can't find the videos that you are trying it please review it ASAP!!!
Nikka coffey grain reminds me of speyside also.
Ugh I wish I could get that... Even local normal harmony can be marked up as far as 80$. Everytime I see it for less than 60 I buy it.
I do use a Hibiki Harmony bottle for my infinity bottle, because its design is so interesting.
Can't say I've ever tasted band-aid in a whisky, but have certainly smelled it, Monkey Shoulder included.
I do not even know what actual bandaids smell like? They have a scent?
@@jeremytheoneofdestiny8691 I think it's a shorthand for the sort of iodine/disinfectant note you can get from some peated scotches.
Thank you, Daniel 6:34
tbh its bottle design its the major reason i bought it
Its the big one!
Where did these videos go
Good save Rex

The mooch powers are strong...
They film these in batches ahead of time

22yo Connemara!?!😳.... Why can't I find anything but their basic 40%... Damnit??.... Still one of my favorites to drink but I'd love to try a stronger or older version 😔
The band aid note in Monkey Shoulder is so overwhelming for me that I can't tast anything else! As my first scotch it makes me afraid to try others.
Try desi tharra

Is it true that Suntory is just getting batches from their Scottish distilleries and landing it into Japan soil, then officially calling it Japanese whisky?
does the person who does the editing related to to the one who does the editing for Brad Leone at Bon Appetit?

The Islay shelf on the wall is empty

Hibiki harmony is so hard to find where I live...
My local liquor store has it
