      @@whatabouttheearth It doesn't have the old style midi ports; it sends MIDI out of the USB to host port; so USB B to USB A (normal printer cable). So it would depend on what kind of MIDI inputs the reface has.

    Hi thank you for great post am a new subscriber. How would u rate acoustic and electric piano voices compared with Casio ct s1? I also would prefer 76 keys but I want a lighter and smaller keyboard for small gigs as this unit is quite bulky in size and is almost double weight 8.3 kg) of Casio ct s1/ct s500. I can octave shift easily on ct s500 so that was my only concern. But if u regard piano voices as significantly better on the 425 then I will rethink my purchase. Thank u for your excellent posts. Hi there! I'm planning on a video comparing the piano voices (and maybe a couple others) between my CT-S1 and the EW425 (prob won't have that up for a couple weeks though) - off the top of my head, the main piano voices on both the CT-S1 and the EW425 are quite spectacular for the price, and both totally usable in a gigging environment - but I would say that I personally prefer the Yamaha voice but the Casio's is great too. I would say the organ voices are definitely better on the 425 and the e pianos PROBABLY a BIT better on the 425 (but those voices are still good and again totally usable on the CT-S1).
      That being said, it is definitely a bigger bulkier board than the Casiotones are, and while the CT-S1 doesn't have line outs the CT-S500 does. The mic input with effects on the EW425 I am SUPER impressed with, and as far as speakers go there is no comparison (24 watts vs 5) but depending on your setup that might not be a big deal.
      Hope that helps! I'll work on that video when I can! And thanks for subscribing!

    ....the video sounds very good on my computer ....did you record this with external speakers? to me it doesn't look like or sound like it was recorded with the onboard speakers..... if i can get the same sound from this keyboard, as it sounds on my computer i would get it over the dgx-670...i know the dgx-670 sounds better , but the weight of this one is much less...and it has a few more advantages for me.... i really like your playing........thanks for answering ....

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! It was recorded using the built in audio interface (massive feature - DGX has it as well); so USB out from keyboard to iPhone recording the video that’s it (the iPhone uses the direct audio from the keyboard instead of the built in mic).
      The DGX is a fantastic piano I’ve often thought about buying but didn’t because of the massive weight, no L/R line outs and it can’t run on batteries (and I want something portable I can perform with)
      As long as you’re ok with non weighted keys, the 425 is a fantastic value

    Thanks for this great sounding and informative demo vid. I notice you mention the M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal in the notes above. I'll probably get that. Was wondering if the ew425 supports half damping. I suppose that info is in the manual somewhere. Just got my new ew425 today. Haven't opened it yet. Too tired. Must sleep for a while. 🙂 Was also wondering if the audio is recorded from the the ew425 speakers, or if it's the ew425 internal audio and you sync it to the video -- if I expressed that correctly. If it's synced, then how do you do it? Anyway, it sounds good.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +3

      No half damping on the 425. The video is recorded using direct audio - the USB to host sends audio as well as MIDI (massive feature!). So USB cable straight to my phone which is recording the video, no other EQ required. The phone uses the direct audio instead of the built in mic.

      @@PianoTone Thanks much for the info. I have a USB type C to my phone, and a USB type A that I can plug into the USB device thing on the back of the keyboard. Then just record the video as usual? Ok, will try that. Your vids and comments have been most helpful. Last night, even though I was exhausted, I couldn't wait so I unboxed the ew425 and played around on it for about 2 hours. 😁 (Edit: It just hit me, you say USB to host above, not device. So, I guess I'll need a USB B, not A, keyboard to USB C phone. Ok, no problem. And yes, "massive feature".)

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +2

      @@TheMg49 Yes it's just a standard printer cable (plus the lightning adapter for iPhone). But yes that feature is monstrous! I had that in my P-125 piano, used it all the time. You can also use it to send high quality audio direct to a DAW on a tablet/pc as well to record an audio track (without needing the external audio interface box).

      @@PianoTone Great! Thanks! I think that's what I just ordered from Amazon. For just audio editing, I will record audio files to a USB stick, then transfer to my desktop computer, which is in another room. Then edit using Audacity. For making UA-cam music vids, I have used VSDC free video editor and put some text or a pic or both as the video part, and just add the audio at a high bitrate.

    I have a Yamaha P121 Digital Piano and sometimes I feel the need for more timbres, because sometimes I play in bands. I'm not familiar with the use of the VST, so at times I think about buying an EW425, I know I lose in the key system, but I gain in the diversity of timbres. What do you say? Thank you very much in advance!

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +2

      I used to have a P125 (which I really liked) so I know what you mean! If you’re ok with non weighted keys, you would probably really like the EW425-there are hundreds of sounds (e pianos, organs and synths are very good), and the piano sounds are still excellent. And for playing in a band, it has bigger and better speakers and a mic input and it weighs less so I think it would be a great choice! And 76 keys is much better than 61.

      I just got a new ew425. I've had a couple of fully weighted hammer action keyboards, and prefer them. However, I'm able to adjust to the different, lighter, feel of the ew425. I've had a number of keyboards with actions like the ew425 also. For me, the ew425 is an intermediate level workstation/arranger for creating original stuff. Though I can see the ew425 being used as a stage piano. As Piano Tone mentioned, it just depends on whether you would be ok with the key action of the ew425, because in all other aspects it's superior to the P121. The only way to find out is to play an ew425. I guess that doesn't help much, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think you would be happy having both.

      Your piano and grand piano sound as I expect from a piano, unfortunately it doesn't sound as good with my PSR E-473. Should the difference between EW425 and PSR E-473 be that big ? I have already reset my keyboard to factory settings, but no change.
      Are you using the original Yamaha settings or have you changed some registers?

      I’m in Canada and some stores and amazon here have stock, USA is looking very out of stock right now. There were some issues online about an LCD screen defect on some batches of 473’s (I haven’t seen this issue myself but there have been some online comments about it). Maybe Yamaha is addressing that before restocking… just a guess but good luck finding one!

    I have a question about the orchestra tutti, it's supposed to be really powerful and simulate a big orchestra with several instruments especially when you hit hard (it activates more voices like brass or drums, like here on the old S670 ua-cam.com/video/qWJFP7cVAjA/v-deo.html ) but here on the E473/E373 it seems quite dull like simply 2 voices put together.
    Is it because you play it softly or is it really just a gadget on this keyboard ?

      No, you can add up to 10 user styles (that you’ve downloaded from somewhere) and you can re-voice any part of any existing style (change a bass from one voice to a different voice etc). I think to add more voices you would need to look at the PSR-SX series (SX600,700,900).
