Welcome to my youtube channel! This channel and my website are all about the fun journey of learning piano and a little bit about music. You'll find down to earth reviews of products and services I actually own or have tested; everything from keyboard, digital pianos, mixers, mics & other music gadgets, but most importantly reviews and information on some of the learning resources (online courses, apps etc) that got me playing popular songs on the piano in just over a month!
Roland GO:Keys 3 & 5: What's Different?
Differences between the Roland GO:Keys 3 & GO:Keys 5! The GO:Keys 5 costs about $150 USD more than the GO:Keys 3; in this video I go over all the differences to see if that extra money is worth it (which depends on your use case). I'm also including an in-depth speaker comparison, and a brief discussion of the "GO:Keys 5 speakers can distort" issue I've seen reported online. NOTE: I'm only covering the differences in this video, so I'm not redoing demos of voices, styles etc. If you are looking for all that, I've included a link to my full review below

Hey bro, could you help me? So basically i made individual banks right, how do i put those same banks in a folder? Its so confusing could you explain please
I'm hesitating between choosing yamaha e473 and cassio e410, go key 3. they are the same price. which one do you think has better sound? convenient for moving. thanks tony
Sound preference is pretty personal (some people like Yamaha, some Roland etc). The pianos on Yamaha are usually brighter and the Roland deeper and woodier sounding. Both the GO:3 and the Yamaha are a step up on the Casio 410 in my opinion. The Roland is a bit more portable than the Yamaha, has better key action, has more chord fingering options and has the chord sequencer which is a cool feature, the Yamaha has the mic input, left and right line outs and better speakers, so depends what's most important for you. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
i wonde rwhy they cant somehow reocrd the chime that grand pianos make
Not sure - Thanks for checking out the channel
Can you connect to the app via bluetooth? Does the bluetooth delay cause any issues ?
I'm confused between the Korg Liano and the Yamaha EW425. I understand they cater to different use cases and audiences, but here (the place I live), their prices are almost the same. If I were to choose purely based on the default grand piano sound (as heard through the inbuilt speakers) and the key action (touch sensitivity), which one would you recommend? And any additional tip/information is also most welcome to narrow down my choice and pick one. Thanks. Appreciate your time and help.
For key action, the Liano wins by a LOT; the keys are true full size, they are piano shaped and are "piano-like" in how they respond. The EW425 keys are super light synth action, and narrower in width, and do not play "like a piano". The main piano sound on the Liano is pretty good and the speakers do sound nice, but the EW425 piano sound is definitely better, it has more piano voices to choose from, and the speakers on the EW425 are fantastic (they're 24 watts, way bigger than almost any other portable keyboard). The EW425 also has a ton of other voices, and rhythms and accompaniment (which are great for practice), and it has a mic input and proper left and right line outs, so feature wise it is FAR better than the Liano. So I guess it comes down to how important those other features are vs. the better key action on the Liano. If you don't care about rhythms, mic input or other voices, and JUST want to play piano then the Liano might be a better choice for the better key action. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@PianoTone Bro, that’s such a detailed response-thank you so much! I’ve been a subscriber for quite some time now, and it’s great to see your subscriber count increasing gradually. Wishing your channel reaches a much wider audience this year-more power to you!
does this have a rhythm accompaniment
No it's a stage keyboard, not an arranger so no accompaniment. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone Thanks for the quick reply. I was going to buy Roland Go keys5. But saw this awesome product and got confused. I am currently learning piano, so thought 88 keys for this price is a steal. But would love to have some tracks for accompaniment. But hai, can't have everything for this price. Thanks for your detailed video.
Update: I watched your Roland FP-E50 and bought that today. Got everything I got and the price is reasonable.
@ Hey congrats that's an awesome piano, I'm sure you'll like it!

Hi I like your deep reviews. This is really a next gen keyboard. Yamaha needs to step up. But there are few things I was not able to fins out: is it possible to play the keyboard via usb midi from DAW? I was not able to find asio driver. Did I miss it?
Brilliant review. Very extensive and clear.
Don't forget a review of the fp-60x.
Excellent explanation! Thank you!
First, i want to say thanks. All the time you must spend to prepare your videos!!! I an adult who began to play the piano 12 years ago. I began from scratch. I bought an acoustis piano, still like it a lot… I was looking for a digital piano who could give me the chance to play different instrument, play with backing tracks, etc. This piano won’t replace my acoustic piano. For me, it is two different instruments. My teacher recommended me the Yamaha DGX-670. You convinced me, that instrument is the one that will perfectly fill my needs… Thanks again…
Thanks so much glad you found the video useful! And yes the DGX is an awesome instrument (have one in my living room). I have done alot of videos on the DGX if you want to check any others out: ua-cam.com/play/PL_W0EMCT9oNbuGdwmq8-zPMmyIzxCuEYM.html Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
It’s so refreshing to find a critical, detailed comparison. Unfortunately the vast bulk of keyboard reviews on YT are done by salesmen trying to sell a product. Also was great to hear the speaker comparison using your iPhone mic. The 3 sounds good but 5 clearly has a fuller/ warmer sound with better bass. Well done, much appreciated.
Thanks so much, glad you found the video helpful! And thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
is the audio all coming from the built in speakers? sounds great. Looking for the best in built speakers atm
No the audio is being recorded directly from the headphone outputs to my audio interface. The speakers in both those keyboards are pretty good for the price and the size, but neither will be super powerful or enough to perform with (even in a small room); for that you would need external amplification. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
How many midi songs can be recorded? Can it recorded to usb drive? Does midi song compatible to smf midi file?
Not sure how many MIDI songs can be recorded; MIDI recordings are stored on the keyboard, so I'm assuming it's limited to a certain amount of memory, not # of songs. If you record audio, then it gets stored on the flash drive. I'm not sure whether the MIDI recordings are compatible with SMF or not, or whether they can be moved off the keyboard. If you're wanting to record in MIDI, it's always best to just record directly to your DAW instead. I do intend on making a deep dive video into recording options on the GO:Keys so stay tuned for that. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
The speaker itself gives enough reason to get 5
The speakers, the mic input and the L/R line outs are more than worth the $ to go from the 3 to the 5 in my opinion. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe.
Seems like Yamaha isn't making the keys thinner (octave-160mm) only, but I saw someone saying they are shorter (?), height-wise. The guy mentions Casio as well. That's tough. Can you please verify it? Are they actually making mini-keyboards off their digital and arranger pianos overtime?
Piano Tony- your videos are top shelf!⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks so much! Feel free to subscribe if you haven't already ;)
hi! why does yamaha psr-ew425 not accept .QSF file format (voices qsf from USB saved)?
I've never done anything with a QSF file myself so I'm not sure. From what I just googled, it seems that if you have something that plays a QSF file that is connected to a PSR463/473 through the audio in, then you can use the sampling on the keyboard to record that sound. But once again, this is just from a quick google search, I know nothing about QSF files myself
Thanks for the detailed overview, especially the SK1 comparison. Although the m-solo is really good, the comparison showed how good the SK1 still is! Only if you need heavily overdriven organ sounds, the newer generation makes a huge difference. Still, it’s a really nice board which I would have gotten for “two keyboard gigs” f it were priced a bit lower.
Thanks so much, glad you liked the review. And yes the SK-1 really is an awesome keyboard; probably explains why it took Hammond so long to come out with the SK Pro to replace it (to be honest if you handed me an SK-1 or an SK-Pro for a gig I'd probably take the SK-1). And yes the M-Solo is a super cool board - if it had waterfall keys Hammond would sell tons of them (and it would eat into the sales of the XK/SK ;) Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@ thanks for the detailed reply. Agree with everything you say. Still occasionaly looking at the sk-pro. Seems to be a beautiful board as well, but less compact and I was slightly shocked by the bootup!
@ I did review the SK Pro here if you want to check that out: ua-cam.com/video/RkUL2CG2fpc/v-deo.html Does have quite the long bootup process :D
I just wish they offered the 5 in the same colours a the 3. It's nice to have something a bit different.
Yeah those are some unique colours. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Yamaha psr-e383 Autochord / smart chord in styles accompaniment. Can I play melody on right hand only and the keyboard will change chord according to melody ? If not psr-e383 then which keyboard has this function ?
With autochord, the keyboard changes chords automatically (for whatever chord progression it is set to; it has nothing to do with what you play in the right hand). For smart chord or multi finger, you need to use your left hand to trigger chord changes, it won't detect them from the right hand melody. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Do you know which keyboard has this function ? Auto accompaniment, the chord change according to melody on right hand, so free left hand.
@@quankhu2255 There are lots of arranger keyboards out there (Roland, Casio, Yamaha DGX) that have a "full keyboard chord detection" mode that will look at the entire keyboard instead of just the left half to detect chords, but that still won't trigger chord changes from a melody. You still need to play a full chord.
Thank you
Great video. I am trying to understand MIDI for the first time and videos like this are a help.

NOT WORKNIG WITH PSR SX900
Now this is a real review! Everyone else is trying to show how good they can play a piano
Hello, is there a way to change how much sustain is added? Sometimes it's just too much. Thanks if you answer
I looked through the function list and it doesn't look like you can edit the amount of sustain (you can disable it if you want); so your only ability to control sustain would be with the pedal. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Hi Tony, I'm playing on "hearing" - as we say in Afrikaans: "op gehoor". I had a couple of piano lessons as a kid, performed playing on a keyboard later on - then for years didn't play and now it's on my bucket list to get a keyboard again - craving making music again. Is this PSR-E383 a good buy you would recommend to me? Also - is there a 76 keys one also in the same keyboard? Thank you for your beautiful tutorials... subscribed and Liked. Blessings from Bloemfontein South Africa.
Thanks so much! And yes there is a 76 key version of the E383: the PSR-EW320. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Great review. By any chance, would you know if this could hold a 49-key keyboard? Thanks.

@PianoTone Thank you for the response. I was only asking because on Amazon the specifications said "55 to 88". Based on the pictures they provided, that didn't seem right so I am glad I found your video. Thank you, again

Would connecting the E50 to an external amp to improve upon the fact that speakers are downfacing? Thanks!
Preferably either a stereo amp, or 2 mono amps (1 for left and 1 for right), or even a set of studio monitors will be a big improvement. Any portable keyboard's speakers will be pretty small and can be improved upon big time with some bigger external speakers. I have a Yamaha Stagepas stereo mini PA system I use live with my band just as a keyboard amp, and at home I have some small Mackie studio monitors that sound great: geni.us/Iif7MsU Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone Thanks. That is helpful. I have a Peavey KB3 that I’m using with my P125.
@@mikeonthepiano That should make a big difference
I like mine so far. The Leslie is a bit fast and wish it was adjustable. The board also sounds harsh in the higher frequency at times. Wish it had waterfall keys too. I like the synth option.
I loved my M-Solo but I did find the higher frequency to be a bit harsh as well in comparison the SK1 or SK Pro. Thanks for sharing and checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Does it support the p-145?
The sustain pedal works, but the soft and sostenudo don't. I was hoping Yamaha's new FC35 (triple pedal not requiring a stand) would work with the P-145, but it doesn't either, so I think the only option for the P-145 is the LP-5A which requires the stand :( Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

Two years ago I tried the SK-Pro and I was surprised that the sound bank is from Yamaha, there are even several sounds with the same names. I managed to recognize some and these come from the MOTIF XS series, but not from the top of the range, but from the basic version which is the YAMAHA MX... there you find the same tones. Greetings
Yeah those sounds I believe are also the ones now in the PSR-E series. Thanks for sharing and for checking out the channel; feel free to subscribe
Man , thank you so much for these videos!. I need your help and advice since you had things in hand. I'll tell you a little about the story so I would like your advice on which one to orient myself. I play around doing live for private parties, weddings, bars/pubs. I do simple piano bar, ballad, pop, but also a lot of disco music and dance music of all shades. My preferences of interest on a keyboard are: the sound, excellent sounds that sound powerful, comfort to play, the intuitive interface controls fast because I play live, I need something more ready to use. So it must be a battle keyboard to go around and do everything with. Now, I want to tell you, I'm in difficulty oriented between Ek50 and Psr e473-e463. Which one do you recommend for everything explained above? Which is more right and battle for live things and to do everything with pop ballad arrangements, disco music and dance?. Let me know and thanks again for your work. Cheers
They're both great choices; I like the key action, true full size key width and user interface better on the EK-50 (It's SO easy and quick to use), the Yamaha has the advantage of the mic input and more (& better) piano and electric piano sounds, BUT the main piano sound on the EK-50 is a great "all-round" piano sound. The mic input means one less thing (mixer) to carry around with you if you're singing through your own amps etc. (if it's a house PA system, then maybe not a big deal) Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone 611 / 5.000 Thanks for your availability, everything is very clear. I only have a few more confirmations that I would like to understand... Do you recommend the ek50 as the most powerful and suitable battle keyboard to take live? In general, in terms of sound, is it more powerful? And then I can't find and understand the more detailed features and settings for modifying styles and retouching sounds, does the ek50 offer freedom and possibilities? Or is there little possibility of modifying the styles and sounds? . As for the various extra microphone inputs and so on, it's not a problem because there is always a complete PA system with a mixer
Thank you very very much!
Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thank you so much for the review! I'm thinking to upgrade from my E373 for the mic input and extra keys. The PSR series truly have great piano sounds (the only better sounding piano in the price range I can think of is the old Roland GO that has 128 polyphony but no arranger features of Yamaha)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the review! The 425 is a spectacular keyboard. If you like Rolan, make sure you also check out my review on the new GO:Keys5 & 3: ua-cam.com/video/HlNmh4u1qH0/v-deo.html Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
