DETAILS:
San Diego Police were in pursuit of a wanted felony suspect near the 2300 block of Fairmount Ave. The suspect continued to evade police in a Black Jeep Grand Cherokee with one other occupant in the vehicle. The pursuit continued down the Southbound I-805 freeway at a high rate of speed moving in and out of lanes and at times driving on the shoulders of the freeway. San Diego Police's ABLE helicopter was tracking the suspect's vehicle throughout the pursuit.
The suspect got onto the Westbound SR-905 freeway before heading back North on the I-5. The suspect then got onto the Eastbound SR-54 freeway before exiting Jamacha Rd. in Spring Valley. The suspect's vehicle stopped under the SR-125 freeway at Jamcaha Rd. The suspect got out of the vehicle and took off running down a drainage ditch that ran along the SR-125 freeway.
The female occupant of the vehicle got into the driver's seat of the Jeep and drove a few yards, police soon stopped her and managed to take her into custody at Elkelton Blvd. and Jamacha Rd. San Diego Police along with San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies set up a perimeter on both ends of the drainage system. Police made callouts in front of the entrance to where the suspect was last seen running.
After an extensive search for well over 30 minutes, law enforcement officials called off the search after determining there were too many possible places the suspect could have exited from. The female was detained and was seen being questioned by a detective. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a blue shirt and black pants. The San Diego Police is investigating.
