Every Indian school child - indeed every Indian adult- should see this episode with the incomparable Dr. Sampath. Thank you Smita Prakash for illuminating so many aspects of the book.
What an eye opener !! .. wish the school curriculum changes to reflect the true history of our country.. awesome to see such erudite conversation between fellow kannadigas :-)
This man has singlehandedly changed the discourse in our country. Ahilya bai Holker is a grand figure who's been missing from the front pages of national history books. While many marathi writers wrote books on her , unfortunately she was always portrayed as a "regional" hero. Sampat's work highlights her countribution to the entire civilization.
Each episode is such a stunner. Dint know Smita mam too was from karantaka. Such a brilliant person Vikram sir is. Speaks the truth with such calm and dignity. Huge respect for his work

Bhandarkar and these days books by Dr Meenakshi Jain on Temple history. Dr Sampath on Savarkar and History of Mewar Maharanas Dr Omendra Ratnu. This has to be done outside their school syllabus. We can do this span of 5-7 years between 10 and 18 years of their age.

I am a Maharashtrian. No matter which government was in power in central or state govt., Our teachers never stopped praising Veer Savarkar. The sudden attack on him by Congress is blood boiling. On the hand , many teachers took underhanded jibes at Mohandas Gandhi, in fun way. I am talking about in 2003-2008. BJP is not the reason for Hindutva wave. They are just smart enough to observe it coming and riding it.
The truth about Gandhi and Savarkar needs to be instilled into all of us. Salute to you guys for preserving the history of a persona like Savarkar. In the North, his mere mention brings about the jibes of bigotry and fascism.

54:30 Im a Indian Malaysian. There are hundreds of Sanskrit/Tamil words adopted in Malay language. There are some evidence of Cholas' maritime power around thousand years ago in Bujang Valley about 400km north of Kuala Lumpur. Sadly not many are aware or visit this place.
Bujang Valley predate the Cholas invasion, but it has surely seen Chola merchants coming and going, etc. Indianization of South East Asia is something further ancient than Cholas' invasions in the region, but it's true that they epitomise the best the antique involvement of Indians in the Indian Ocean trade, as they're lone thalasocratic power.
Lembah bujang ( bujang valley) But travelling takes time as it's in the north. As a tourist, visit brickfields, one of the little India towns. A lot of foreigners love to go to Genting Highlands.

In our anxiety to prove Marxist Historians wrong, we sometimes cross our lines and become very 'jingoistic' about the past, which we need to avoid! Such a bold statement makes Vikram Sampath one of the most extraordinary contemporary historians who respects facts and nothing else. Smitha Prakash did her best to bring out the book's essence and Sampath's scholarship in this episode. Great content and lessons on the forgotten history of our country.

I studied in kerala state school syllabus and this is the first time I m hearing about these leaders...Yes we had learned about kerala warriors pazhassi raja sri marthanda varma etc but how to make sure state school kids can learn about other states' history??
Unfortunately till communists control Kerala its impossible to see Indic renaissance on school level or government level.. only uprising we are seeing in Kerala is online which still appreciated.
Kerala is on the way towards downfall due to growing influence of communism and Islam. It will take a revolution to bring around the belief that what they’re taught is a set of ideas to whitewash the core history and culture of Kerala.
exactly. if you really go through Mathilakam scriptures you will be shocked and happily surprised to find the greatest diplomats and best warriors from Travancore who were great visionaries etc, but vested political interests will never allow us to learn and be proud of our true legacy. Raja Kesavadasan, Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai, Kuthira Pakshi, Kunjikutti Pillai, Karthikathirunal RamaVarma (Dharma Raja) were some of our Epic greats. Happy to hear the the true history of Bharat. However, no mention of Great Kakatiya Dynasty who ruled present Telangana, AP & some of Karnataka for 200 years from 1100AD to 1300AD till Khilji invaded &occupied . Water Conservation & construction of Shiva temples were given top priority. Ganapati Rudra, Rani Rudrama Devi & Pratapa Rudra were great rulars. They have constructed hundreds of Tanks which are still functioning like Ramappa , Laknavaram & Pakala in Warangal district. Recently Ramappa Temple has been declared as World Heritage Structure by UNESCO. Hope Kakatiya dynasty will get a place in your discussion as both are from Karnataka..
No mention??? Did you even try to gather anything. Nowadays, what is this expectations you have. Should someone spoonfeed you what you wanted to know. Vikram is solely responsible for bringing many Historical Facts on public domain in a very structured manner. I loved both his books on Veer Savarkar (2nd one still not completed). Stay Blessed Vikram!

Awesome. I read 1st one half

A deep sense of pride is what Vikrams book gives every Indian. It's time we know our real history and share with our children.
Absolutely.
Every Indian school child - indeed every Indian adult- should see this episode with the incomparable Dr. Sampath. Thank you Smita Prakash for illuminating so many aspects of the book.
A webseries on this book and others written by Vikram is much needed to seed our real history into the youth ❤
Sampat's work highlights her countribution to the entire civilization.
she was always famous
From Nepal but a big fan of Vikram Sampath. I wish we have somebody like him in Nepal. History to be re-written.
Nepali people's elected communist party
The question is, Nepal even ready to read about history of Nepal before the formation of Nepal by King Prithvi Narayan Shah 🤔🤔
Each episode is such a stunner. Dint know Smita mam too was from karantaka. Such a brilliant person Vikram sir is. Speaks the truth with such calm and dignity. Huge respect for his work
I am a college student, after listening to this podcast I feel so proud of our ancestors but it makes me sad such brave people do not get the recognition they rightfully should get in our history books, I fear that such valant stories of our ancestors would get lost in time without reaching to us younger generation. Sincerely hoping this will change.
Even being a Kannadiga, I didn't know many things about Karnataka. Thanks Dr. Sampath for such an enlightening talk!
This podcast just raises the bar with every new guest on the show. It's a delight to hear Vikram ji as usual and Smitha Prakash never disappoints us with her genuine questions and informal style of interviewing
Thank u Sampatji…. For telling real history… Veer Swarkarji is our pride… thanks u so so much 🌹🙏🙏🙏
As a father of teenager kids I can say that it is incumbent on all the parents to buy History of South India by K.A. Neelkanth Shastry , History of Sanyasis and India through times by Dr Jadunath Sarkar. History of Satvahanas and Vaishnavism by R.G.

My RESPECTS to Dr Vikram Sampath and his an his commitment to INTEGRITY!
Yep!
We need a responsible, visionary far-right party at the national level. BJP is centrist, and is only riding the hindutva wave
BJP is ultimately the reason why we have a Ram Mandir. Accepting it won't hurt your character.
The truth about Gandhi and Savarkar needs to be instilled into all of us. Salute to you guys for preserving the history of a persona like Savarkar. In the North, his mere mention brings about the jibes of bigotry and fascism.

I Don't Know That Chittiya Rahul Who Don't Know Inch Of India History Talking About Him
Being a marathi school student tatyarao was always presented as a finest example of a freedom fighter who sacrifice so much for a country. Our teachers never ever spoke any I'll about him ever. Only this nonsense social media and congress are making stupid statements about him.
Well said brother
Bujang Valley predate the Cholas invasion, but it has surely seen Chola merchants coming and going, etc. Indianization of South East Asia is something further ancient than Cholas' invasions in the region, but it's true that they epitomise the best the antique involvement of Indians in the Indian Ocean trade, as they're lone thalasocratic power.
I'm coming to Malaysia in August. Which places should I visit other than the Batu caves?
Lembah bujang ( bujang valley)
But travelling takes time as it's in the north.
As a tourist, visit brickfields, one of the little India towns. A lot of foreigners love to go to Genting Highlands.

I happen to have read one volume of Sir Vikram’s book on Savarkar. The level of intricacy and depth this text entails reflects his vast knowledge of the indic civilisation and our history in general. We need more people like him on the fore front.

Loved learning so much about Indian History and also about the Hindu temples! Thank you so much, Smita ji & Dr.Vikram Sampath!👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
Firstly, one cannot thank both of you enough for choosing this topic. It was a supremely educating podcast, an eye opener, an 'awakener' if one may, that needs to be preserved and published in the interest of propagating the countless unrevealed truths of our history and civilisation. An outstanding literary contribution from both a journalistic and a literary perspective. Congratulations! And power be to you. Loved the humour that was naturally interspersed as well. Looking forward to witnessing the 'Mysore Paak' battle with Dr.Anand Ranganathan too!
An eye opener to say the least. Thank you Smita ji and Dr. Sampath for this fantastic podcast.

Am proud of you my BROTHER, Vikram and thank you so much Smita-ji to present us with such an erudite session with the scholar!
Vikram Bhai, you have TRULY ushered the mammoth and long overdue TASK of our TRUE historical resurrection, literally from the Sphinx!!!
Now, at least our next generation has a base to take it forward.
Here I would also like to ADD and insist that it is HIGH TIME now for us to honestly INTEGRATE and UNITE forever as NOTHING but a *Sanatan Dharmik Bharatiya* and NOTHING else .... forgetting who is Ahomese, Bihari, Bangali, Gujarati, Kannadiga, Keralite, Konkani, Manipuri, Marathi, Marwari, Mizo, Nepalese, Oriya, Punjabi, Sindhi, Telegu, Tamil etc. Else the outer world will always try to instigate the cultural/linguistic/culinary differences to politically divide us and downplay our sovereignty as a NATION.
Wonderful episode! Thanks to Smita ji for inviting Vikram.
Acharya Chatursen Shastri has written a marvellous novel in Hindi titled "सोमनाथ", elaborating social-political-religious situations of those times. It always gives pain when we hear or read somewhere how Plunderers invaded into not only geographical terroteries of our motherland ,but destroyed the Temples of our deities!
Vikram Sampath is a really Great personality for Saviour of Humanity[ Sanatan] and Bhartiya Culture.
I salute Dr. Sampath for bringing up our true history. I live in USA, but I never miss listening to him.

Salute to Dr. Vikram sampath for his tireless effort to dig out the glorious past of Indian civilization. Now I am 76 years old, I can only say, so long Indian have been deprived from their own history, result of which we have been projected that we are the rase of loosing mindset. Thanks.

Soul of a nation so long suppressed needs to be told... beautifully put together, thank you for this beautiful podcast, learnt a lot and yes the history needs to be told in a right manner.

Really..just learn about Raja Kesavadasan.. almost in global history we won't be able to find such calibre capable Raajyathanthragna second only to the best ever like Chanakya.

@@kvs6830 So it does mean they are not of kannada origin even if they are born and raised in Karnataka according to you, right sir?
@@AnshuAnand2020. I normally give the truth only not my opinion as opinions differ from each point of view. I gave the information just to show that there is nothing to be proud of Vikram being raised in Bangalore or Smita being a Mangalorean. There backgrounds may be different. Being a mixed upbringing , it is difficult to know where ( which culture) they belong too.( They themselves cannot identify that). For that matter ,3 important personalities in media nowadays are Sai Deepak, Anand Ranganathan and Vikaram( and Jaisankar too) , and all have Tamil backgrounds. Can I say I am proud of them because of their Tamil background ( and particularly TamBrams I assume). By the way u r not that" Anand" I suppose..

Annamalai , TN BJP head , who is a Tamilan but IPS from Karnataka cadre says he is pakka Tamilan while speaking to Tamil audience but says he is Kannadiga when he addresses Karnataka audience. One of my friend , who is Telugu , born and brought up in TN as his ancestors moved to TN probably during Nayakas period. They speak some kind of Telugu which is neither Telugu or Tamil. But when asked where would be his loyality if there is a problem between TN and Andhra , he says it would be Andhra. It is similar to mother tongue. Many people think that mother tongue is a language spoken by own's mother. But that is not correct. It may be or may not be. The idea is fir anybody the closest person would bevown mother ( with whom he or she would feel most comfortable)
Same way the language to which one feels most comfortable would be the mother tongue. It will be decided only by the individuals. It may change from time to time also .My opion is the loyality, nativity would be decided by the individuals as we only know the social facts but not his mindset..

Hope Kakatiya dynasty will get a place in your discussion as both are from Karnataka..
he said he is gonna make more parts of this , it is not possible to have everyone on a single book
In fact he should be requested to write about each state brave hearts.

No mention??? Did you even try to gather anything. Nowadays, what is this expectations you have. Should someone spoonfeed you what you wanted to know.
