    Thanks for all of the DSI reviews Ujiie! You are my favorite reviewer on UA-cam and I start to learn some of the common Japanese phtases from your review. The best is when you are blown away and say "Psycho!"

    • @Sumida2
      @Sumida2 10 років тому +4

      He's actually saying "Saikou!", not "Psycho!". No, it doesn't mean the same thing :)

    • @djthomaswhite
      @djthomaswhite 10 років тому +1

      HidekiSamba
      Saikou does mean "The Best!" which is just how I hear it. I always thought it meant "crazy good" and psycho is just my way to spell what I don't know how to spell without putting some massacred guess. No offense intended.

    I wasn't blown away by my x4. BUT I now also use a Moog sub phatty and a Roland super jx10 plus some digital stuff. The x4 finds its own place in the mix well with the Moog and Roland stuff. It's voicing doesn't step on their toes and fits in perfectly in that high mid rangy area.

    Thank you for the demo, Ujiie-san. The X4 has a timbre and tone that you have to like (I do), it's not as broad and lavish as other analog polys but it shines in the knob-twiddling out-of-space what-the-heck-is-that-noise kind of stuff which I'm into so it's high on my wishlist but still out of my range price-wise. I'm happy that there are companies like DSI who follow their own style instead of keeping on copying Oberheims, Moogs and ARPs. One day, this nice synth will be mine!

    This guy is the best at demos and even he can not make this synth sound close to potentially good.

    I never looked into a Mopho x4. I already got a Prophet 6, Sub 37, but I think this really does have it's own identity. It's limited but so are a lot of vintage synths. The presets suck but that's what programming is for. Just wish you could latch the sequence and it wasn't so hard to program a sequence but it does have it's place I think.

    I had one. Note that you can see the top hinge of the keys, creating a huge gap as you play. It always looked like the keys needed pushed up or the metal needed to be longer. But also I only found one sweet sound and it was any kind of brass. Other patches just don't impress, and of course, the polyphony of 4 is unsatisfying.

      Wavestrike Electronics Thumbs up because you make me feel like I dont need to buy this. But the sounds sound good from the video!

      +skchalivethailand seriously, i spent about 30 minutes playing around with one of these and just immediately went to all settings wide open, picked a waveform, and made a basic bass patch. it sounds just as good, if not better than my juno 106 or AX60. If anything it's easier to make cool satisfying sounds. The filter is 80% of the value here, honestly, and sounds better than any other new keyboard in this price range. The weakest points, especially in the default patches, are when it isn't set up for something "thick" and isn't showing that off.

      Unfortunately the Mopho x4 is another situation where the factory patches short change the synth. The Novation Peak, Roland System-1 and System-8 are other examples. In these cases, if you are browsing presets you are only touching the surface.

  • @shookstylez

    there seems to be some external reverb added to it am I wrong? 5:52 you hear a slight reverb, which doesn't come from the instrument it self if I am correct?

  • @alternatingbitmusic

    It is an awesome synth. A 61-key version would be better.

    These are digitally controlled analog oscillators, and not digitally controlled digital oscillators....both of which are called DCOs.

    I know this is old but right now tetras are cheap cause they are discontinued. you can buy 2 for 400 bucks which I did. Basically a prophet 8 if you have a midi keyboard and don't mind an editor then just get a tetra. even thought the mopho x4 is alright and a good price it is still not worth it to me. It's not made like a prophet it doesn't sounds the same either. I think they were trying to hard to make a cheap poly synth with a keyboard to be competitive.If you just need 4 voices then just get a tetra or minilouge both are great but extremely different and cheap for analog synth. P.S.- Best reviewer ever love this guy.

    • @bode7164
      @bode7164 8 років тому +1

      I don't see any Tetra below 500$, maybe with patience on eBay? Also quite a bit of programming can be done right on the board of the X4, that's precious.

      yer it is pretty agressive and cold sounding.. i own one and like it .. but for anything lush and smooth and creamy and so on this is not the synth .. or well i guess you can try and hey with some effects and so on you can make anything work .. but for such things its just easier to use a synth that has it from the start :)
