    Having used 5 Virus KC's, 1 TI and 2 TI's I can honestly say the Virus KC was warmer, slightly fatter and more pleasing to the ear. When Access upgraded the audio components in the TI it became a drier, cooler sounding synth. Also, the factory preset's were heavily edited with the onboard EQ system. This made all the factory sounds pretty crunchy and cold sounding. The Virus KC, C, B and A exuded more warmth.

      Unfortunately that's true. I don't think the Ti can sound this organic: 10:54

      Maybe you right. Even electronic legend "Tangerine dream" uses in their live shows the old Viruses, instead the modern TI`s.

      I own an Access Virsu KC and I it is like you say. It is very warm, fatter. The TI was cool but after some time it just got boring., Yes Virus A,B & C are the most awesome synth today. You can't find the same sound on todays synths. I own a Micro Modular and Access Virus K both of them are just an orgasm

      No, this is just a DSP algos, only older converters are involved, I own every Virus from the day 1 and the TI gives the best signal so far. Either you love a black&red scheme so a "placebo" effect works for you. There are slight difference comparing Virus A, but others are just the same as TI. Your comment is misleading, you definitely don't know what you're talking about.

    If you must choose to have one synth in your setup. The Virus Series is the way to go.

    This guy always delivers the best demonstrations and if I had a company needing to sell synthesizers I would offer him the job, not sure I could afford him though ;0)

    I really like the sound, I have the desktop model. I agree with the poster though saying it lacks a bit of clarity. However, I've had VA's that do posses more 'clarity" in the upper registers, but I didn't like the sound that much. VA's especially can have harsh, peircing high and upper mid frequencies that fatigue my ears very quickly. I love the soft, sizzly, smudgy highs of good analogue synths, which are gently rolled off naturally through the circuitry, and even though the C doesn't have those, it doesn't shred my eardrums either. For top end VA clarity I prefer the Waldorf Blofeld, some proper lovely digital highs, but to my ears the overall sound of the synth isn't perfect either. It can sound way too metallicy for me.....strengths and weaknesses are different for different synths

      There's a pretty good replica of that patch (think it's called "Arctic," IIRC) that comes with u-he Zebra. It's in the "two point five" folder and programmed by Howard Scarr, who also programmed the original Virus patch.

    Viruses are very aggressive sounding but most presets are heavily compressed and equalized. They splash reverb and delay and blam you got a patch. Don't get me wrong this thing sounds great and can do a lot of everything. Access knows there shit but the edginess of this synth is why it's popular in dance music. It has its own character like every synth and I would love to afford one someday but they are a sooooo expensive for a VA synth I recommend king korg if you need the keyboard or a blofeld if you don't. As always wonderful review

    • @BobRossa
      @BobRossa 8 років тому

      There's no compressor in the effects.
      The only reason I could afford one is I had just sold a guitar for over 10 times what I paid for it. I had it for 33 years though.

  • @chakko007

    Significant that this synth still gives eargasms, although the synth engine has never been changed since 1995. And that none of the modern VA synths and soft synths was ever able to produce such a raw, brilliant, and punchy sound. Time to roll the sleeves up, developers, there's still a lot to do...

    A, B, TI.. Which sounds better? Really don't know. For sure, I enjoyed the way it has been played in this video and that has really added some "warmth" to this toy :-)

      I have the KC and the Ti ... I use them both all the time. The Ti is capable of more complex sounds, has more effects and an expanded modulation matrix, etc. if you are looking at getting one... get the best condition and latest model you can afford is what I would suggest.

    some great sounds on this thing. Tycho used it on Dive, which is kind of cool, for what it's worth. I just feel like it's missing a certain something, but it also HAS a certain something else. Hard to tell on laptop speakers tho, but I'm not sure I'd have it as a starting point for my rig, or even 1 of the 2 or even 3 synths on it.. but maybe. Those red LEDs always blinking?? for what reason? would be handy if they were the speeds of the LFOs and such, but man that's a lot of blinkage.

    • @BobRossa
      @BobRossa 8 років тому +1

      I have a TI2 and it doesn't blink as much. The ones that are blinking are LFOs and clock.
      It is the last synth I would unload I think its amazing. I do sound design on it almost every day. I've had it for over a year and a half and I'm still finding new cool things to try.
      Its a beast.

    • @charonme

    The Virus can do almost everything but the results are never perfect imo. Theres always the lack in pleasing high frequencies, just fizzle, too much boom in the lows, in a bad way.
    No clarity at all...and EQs cant help here, maybe analog filters would, I dont know.
    Just my two cents..

    Great demo, but Access sucks for just dropping their rack mount version into plastic giant keyboard case. The knobs and controls are all in the wrong place. They should be spread out evenly like every other keyboard. Very poor physical design of this keyboard.

    • @feralferret
      @feralferret 9 років тому +4

      Jimmy Jacksonian 32 knobs not enough for you? The knobs keep the same formation as the desktop and Indigo series, themselves a continuation of the original Virus A desktop unit. The space on the right of the KC allows you to place a laptop, tablet, effect box (compressor, et al), mouse mat or even another desktop unit right on top, quite handy for live and studio usage, rather than the 61keys otherwise taking up huge real estate.

    • @BonitoConejito
      @BonitoConejito 8 років тому

      Jimmy Jacksonian not true excellent panel design. Allows one to place a boutique synth right on top. Roland tr9 or tb03, or anything really. Top notch synth. I've had a Jupiter 8, a matrix 12, moog voyager...the ti2 is the one I kept when money was tight and I had to sell.

    • @jlindborg1105
      @jlindborg1105 7 років тому

      Jimmy Jacksonian I agree.
      When you finally have the appropriate space you should use it.
      They did a fantastic job cramming in as much as they did in the desktop/rack units but should have taken the chance to really use the keyboard space to get rid of most of the double duties.
