I think it's great to actually see youtube videos of a someone demoing a synth, who actually knows how to play one. Thank you for continuing to put up videos that aren't mediocre.

Stephanie McKeon Yes! WC Olo Garb / Jexus has some of the best demos. My favorite Jexus demos are Waldorf Q, Yamaha AN1x and Korg Radias. He also has a handful of songs that aren't too shabby.
All true. But, he's not a very good keyboard player. He just knows his way around the synth, which is still better than most.

very good demo about the very underrated virtual analog OB-12. thank you!
I tried one of these for the 1st time last night and it was insane. I went to OB Strings and made some tiny adjustments. Before i knew it i was floating in an underworld of sound, then i discovered how sensitive the touch bar was. It was truly amazing i could easily give that organic touch to the sounds but it was more than that, hard to explain just how good the touch bar is. Then there is the after touch. I have only explored a few of the features, i don;t know if i can learn everything on it it seems to go very deep.
Another great feature is the morph feature. Wow some amazing sounds possible when combining sounds.
And finally my first impression of how the computer and display work together with any touches you make on any controls! It's just amazing. I've never used a piece of equipment like this that just knows everything you touch and shows you instantly on the screen. It almost feels like the machine has a real brain. Crazy! It has truly inspired me to start recording. I regret not recording last nights late night jam!
What's insane is that at the time, the reviews for this thing were pretty negative. But all it takes is a few minutes to hear just how incredible this thing can sound. Maybe I'll get to own one some day...
He seems to love that OB FATTO PADDO :) I love the fact that you don't need to understand Japanese to know what he's talking about. Been watching his videos for 2 years now, they're always better than everything else.
Agreed, while music in general is an universal language, Sound synthesis terminology and concepts seems to have also become an universal language.

I'm MuzikB and often, I still miss this synth. I sold it after all my frustration with Viscount/Gibson to keep it going. It was JUST SHY of greatness and just needed a few more tweaks but the plug was pulled on it. It is an excellent synth for Pad, string, and brass sounds. This synth along with an MS2000B are GOLD in my book. The only two synths in my lifetime that I regret selling.

I just bought one. Truly amazing. It's like the thing has a brain. So sensitive and the expression you can get through the keys and touch bar is amazing. I was up for hours last night with the headphones but wishing i was recording. Morphing sounds is pretty cool too.
The OB-12.....The three "L's" of synths. Legendary, Lust, and Lush! When I saw UJIIE posted a review, I was like, "this is going to be epic"! Boy, was I right!
Really nice demo, shows the depth of the machine and how good of sounds it can produce. It may not be a true Oberheim, but for a VA they did their best.
Was made to looks like a blu print, and came out of the paper with energy and style! A dream!

I had this synthesizer for a few months when it was first released. Very digital sounding... the sound reminded me of the Yamaha CS1x, digital and thin. It looked so pretty, but the sound did not impress. I so wanted it to be better. Other virtual analogs, like the Novation Nova, Roland JP-8080, Waldorf Q, Nord Lead 2 (I had all of these at the same time as the OB12), sounded so much better. I wanted to love the OB12... especially because of the wonderful interface and features, but the sound was a bit harsh and thin.
Sayer Seely These days, I am looking for a synth.Never played OB-12 before but I am intended to buy it. I need overdrive leads, big pads , brassy pads(like yamaha sy99) with effects.
I am already have Access Virus Ti Snow and Novation KS5. What is your advice? I generally play funk-pop music.
My set up
Nord Stage 2 Ex 76HP
Yamaha MOXF6
It seems like you have the bases pretty well covered... the TI snow has a huge sound pallet (and much nicer, fuller sound than the OB-12). KS5 adds more virtual analog abilities with nice on-board effects. The Nord Stage covers the pianos, EPs, clavs, strings, organs, and even some synth sounds very well. I don't know much about the Yamaha MOXF6, but it appears to be a capable workstation.
When I first read your message, the Korg Kronos came to mind. It will do all of the things you listed as needs, but it sells for an expensive price. After thinking about the gear you already have it seems like you are well covered.
I am thinking about Kronos 2.
It is a beast. Maybe I can uptade moxf6 to Kronos 2. For synth sounds, I am impressed with Elektron Analog Keys. It is just four polyphony but sonic capabilities are great.
@@tunamusic6540 get a king korg and thank me later. i have one and mamy other synths. while i have the jupiter 80 as the other person on here mentioned, i would not recomend it unless you want to spend over 3k and like carrying an 80 pound instrument around. its heavey. The king korg does an excellent virtual OB at under 20 pounds.

For a while it seems the used value of the OB-12 had fallen to about $400 USD. Now they are around $2,000 for one in good condition. I think the synth has finally found its audience.
Just got one for €700 in a double purchase with an older synth. Amazing. The keyboard is so sensitive, there is the after touch and the touch bar. I left more details above.
I had trouble trying to work out how to get the Midi outputs going ! However the OB12 is great, Fantastic, love it. Have got some spare screens in case it needs changing.

For the " Ob Strings" preset alone this synth is worth every penny. Then try the "Morph" function between one sound and another and you'll be able to tell me. 400 euros spent great!!

Played around with one of these at Guitar Center all they wanted was $200.00+ taxes($230.00+ a few years back. Should have got it then.
***** Probbly alot more now. But it was this model. It was like two years ago I go in every so often to see the vintage stuff they may get in.
The OB12 is surely great but I just came from the OB-X vs OB-Xa demo and then, the difference in power really does show... Unfortunately, an OB-x costs an arm, a leg and a testicle...

This is a real good synth - in it's own right. Most dumbass comments here are made by dudes who don't know sh*t about tweaking a synth and for sure, have never played the OB12. To you guys, stick with you arranger keyboard and play some popmusic.

When it came on the market was so underrated by some reviewers.... Thanks to your video I have to say they were wrong. Only I noticed on some pad presets a not pleasant white noise in the background. I hope it can be shut by editing it....

I love the knobs, but thats about it...This unit sounds nothing like an old school Oberheim such as a the OB series...as a matter of fact, If hadn't of know it was an Oberheim, I would have thought it a DX-7. Very digital sounding obviously cause its digital, but I thought that wasn't the point? Ha ha...They hit it on user interface and fulbbed on sound. Too bad

The OB12 sounds are not impressive enough to purchase. Very, very old virtual analog... thin without compressor and bass emphasys. Only for pads. Save your money!
