EXPLANATION:
Basically, my take on the lore is that Wilbur and Sally had a whirlwind romance. Neither of them understood what they were getting into.
Sally, being a salmon shapeshifter, shouldn't be living outside of the water for long periods of time, she belongs in the water. Her relationship with Wilbur was fun but she wanted to go home back to where she belonged, despite promising a whole bunch of things to Wilbur, being married and all.
Wilbur wanted her to stay on the surface with him and Fundy, be a happy family.
But she couldn't do that, it goes against her nature, and Wilbur didn't know how to provide the lifestyle she needed. So she left, and Wilbur felt betrayed and heartbroken.
Sally lost interest in him and her child, going through something like the baby blues after Fundy was born, as well as feeling detached from her surroundings.
Wilbur had put expectations on her she couldn't succeed, didn't want to let her go, and wouldn't let her live the way she needed.
Basically neither of them were good for each other.

Before I read the description/explanation, I thought the reason Sally left was because Wilbur devoted all of his attention to Fundy alongside Fundy apparently not being as fond of her as she thought they would. I thought that Sally felt "left behind" by Wilbur or just straight up not wanted by him now that he had Fundy but...
The reality (aka the explanation) is so much sadder. Their relationship as they had planned it, was doomed from the start. Because it's Sally's nature, it's not like the two could talk it out and find a solution that way (at least not one that all involved parties would be 100% happy with)

I love how you put the colors. Like Wilbur is Yellow since it's like his Sweater. Then there's Sally who is Red cause she's a Salmon. Then when they both came together, it become orange and came out Fundy who is Orange like it's the result mixing Yellow and Red them came in Orange. Then when Sally is like not interested anymore to her family turns into dull Grey. Same goes for Wilbur. His outside is Yellow but in the inside, it's just a dark color due to him being heartbroken. I really how you did it and i am like a week late. (Correct if I'm wrong tho) :)
Edit : I didn't even realized this. When Wilbur saw Sally's wedding ring on the drawer, he's still Orange the checks on Fundy then saw Sally stood there looking at the ocean. Wilbur is still Orange and tries to get back, denying that Sally would leave not just him but also their son Fundy. But when Sally turn back into a Salmon, Wilbur's colors turns back to Yellow again showing that him and Sally's relationship is over.

A little bit of communication and emotional openness would’ve saved all of them a LOT of hurt y’know. Maybe they could’ve been right for each other, rekindled that love, or at least worked things out to a point where it wouldn’t have been so painful! This is an awesome animatic!

I still can't believe that this is the origin of Fundy's character. It sounds like Greek mythology, guy falling in love with a fish and then when they have a kid it turned out to be a fox if someone had told me this was a story from ancient mythology I would believe them.

First off, this is a freaking masterpiece. Damn. I though this would make me laugh like most Sally x Wilbur animatics do (and to be honest I laughed pretty hard at the "I prefer the salmon" line lmao) but for most of it, I legitimately had chills. The way you used color to show Sally's emotions, and really just the palette choices in general. All in all, this has got to be in my top three DreamSMP animatics like, EVER.
