Thanks for this review! I’m surprised that until now I don’t see a lot of videos on yt showing how after effects performs with the m1 MacBooks in general. Hoping to see more reviews if ever!
The longest render I did on the Mac Air was about 35 minutes long and there was no heating up at all! I worked for about 2 hours continuously in AE (Rotoscoping & some compositing) and no heating up either. :)
Do you use Nuke, Maya or Houdini by any chance? I know vfx studios don't really use Mac.. however due to my job I'm currently traveling a lot and while I have a 5k desktop I get behind on my school work. I keep reading not to move to workstations etc... idk any solution.. Should I just get a lenovo workstation laptop?
@@bluelightuniverse1076 Hey, I went with the base model m1 macbook air with 8gb ram and 256gb storage. It is amazing but the only problem is the storage, it gets really noticeable if you will work with huge files but other than that, its more than enough for me. Its really fast and I havent noticed any sort of problems in After Effects or other programs.
Oooh boi haha I mean in terms of price range, the new ones are fairly more expensive I swear, I am definitely going to try them out at some point! Might make a follow up review on them soon!
@@lovreperaic2757 oh boii! Very curious how much the performance gets better 🤔 I'm gonna be using the M1 for VFX for a film in a couple of weeks...Including some heavy compositing, so that should be interesting!
@@VisualFXPro they made new code for premiere and upgraded it. for AE they stick to prehostoric code on which they build new solutions. that is why AE is so unoptimised. m1 upgrade will bring i hope first serius workflow upgrade
Can anyone say that, is MB air M1 handle medium level animations and basic stuffs? Not into 3D elements. I will go for Macbook Air M1 then else I would go for Asus VIvoBook Pro 14 OLED
Hello! Your graphics card kind of depends on what kind of work you do. For example, if you do compositing and you're using After Effects, then I'd recommend getting more RAM & better CPU rather than focusing on the graphics card. But if you're using a compositing software that uses your GPU more, than I'd recommend getting a better GPU. In another comment, someone mentioned that they are optimising After Effects on the M1 chip, maybe wait until then and see how much better AE will give performance wise, once optimised. :)
Guys I need help. I want a laptop I don’t care about price that can handle a 6K/8k editing timeline, & handles effect editing and 3D renders well. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I’d like to see how fast 3D camera tracking is as well as Boris Mocha tracking!
I'll sure to check both out and let you know! :))
@@VisualFXProand for drone 360 videos?
Ohh I’ve been wanting to get the M1, now I definitely will! ☝️☝️☝️☝️
In terms of compositing and rendering, the i7 is primarily suitable for gaming only. Instead, I would choose the i9.
Great video! Thank you!
oh....exactly what I wanted to compare.... thank u. I will subscribe u. from korea
Air doesn't have fan, right? Did it get heated up after rendering?

@@VisualFXPro Wow, that's really impressive! Thanks for the reply.
The pro has a fan but you can't hear it.
thank you!
No worries! 😄
Element 3d has been updated for M1:) free download
Now it works?
Currious to see what would the render time be now with the m1 optimized beta of after effects ?
Just had time to update AE! Should I make a video about the new beta optimized AE? Maybe a comparison between the M1 Max Pro and M1 Air?
@@VisualFXPro would be awesome!
@@kinematikz I will keep you posted my man! As soon as I get the M1 Max Pro, I'll do a video. 👌
Do you think the MB pro M1 would have been faster or no? They both have same processor and ram
how did you install ae on mac
thx
Is it enough for 2d animation and rendering
Very helpful video. Can you review macbook pro 13 M2 for VFX and element 3d similar to this video.

Will the base model macbook air m1 be enough for After Effects? Not into heavy editing, mostly 2d simple animations for ads and stuff?
I have the same question. What did u go with?

Also I am curios when After Effects will be fully optimised on the M1 chip, how faster it might get even on the air!
Visual FX Pro they will make m1 optimization in December! I hope it will make life in after More mobile and faster
