    "The Expose card is only available in the Slave I expansion." Oh, thank goodness! Because I just bought an X-Wing expansion and never saw this card before. Today, I got a Tie Bomber Expansion and I remembered that I dropped a few cards (I picked them up immediately) while unboxing it outside and just now asked myself if I dropped Expose while unboxing X-Wing. I guess I should stop opening expansions right after purchase for this reason. Anywho, funny story I wanted to share.

    Expose may have a home at last on Rear Admiral Chiraneau. For 4pts you take a 3 attack turret to 4 attack (5 at range 1), whilst at the same time increasing the chance of rolling an eyeball for Chiraneau to increase to a crit. The -1 agility doesn't come into effect because Decimators are agility 0 to start with :)

      nekomatafuyu I think it's reasonable on RAC but Predator is probably a better choice. It costs one less and doesn't require any actions to work.

      +nekomatafuyu Sorry, I hate to be 'that person', but secondary weapons like turrets don't actually take range bonuses into account, so it will still be 4 attack dice at range 1. Your point is correct however.

    • @nekomatafuyu
      @nekomatafuyu 9 років тому +2

      +Nathan Mitchell Whoever said anything about secondary weapons? Hell, off the top of my head, can Chiraneau even take a secondary turret weapon?

    • @LunchableSandwich
      @LunchableSandwich 8 років тому +3

      +Nathan Mitchell I hate to break it to you but he's right. Yes, you are correct "secondary weapons like turrets" don't receive range bonuses. HOWEVER RAC's PRIMARY weapon IS the built in 360 ARC on the ship. Expose would be 5 ATT at range 1 (3 from primary, 1 from Expose, 1 from range = 3+1+1 = 5). Decimator can't even equip a secondary turret weapon.

      +nekomatafuyu Expose is still not very good unless you're getting another buff action. Usually you're better off going for non-action modification so you can boost to keep RAC alive. Gunner/Predator works nicely and gives you a better chance against the hard-to-hit targets with no need for the action.

    Expose could work very well with Corran Horn for when you get the enemy in your cross-hairs and double tap.
    Doubly good with Vader, since he can get two actions.

  • @iamps3et
    @iamps3et 10 років тому

    One good example of "Expose" used well is when paired with Mauler Mithel (21pts) due to the fact that he can still focus when it doesn't suit to expose but when within range 1 of any X-Wing (for example) there is a chance (slim though it may be) to destroy it in one turn

      Same with Vader, he can be nasty with that with his double actions.

    I saw someone running expose on a Phantom during casual play the other day... between robbing him of any other action and cutting one agility off his cloak, it got Whisper killed on the very first round.

    I think this is definitely Vader upgrade. Vader + Expose + Focus. He moves last, so he will see, if he is in danger of being shot at or not. And if he can afford it in the situation, he can do really nasty damage.

    Outmaneuver
    Counters some if the problems discussed here but has the downside of needing to flank the enemy. Handy card tho.

    agreed, the only match up i use it on is 300pts + and only when wedge gets within range 1 and/or has target lock and vander can really lend a hand when using it, 5 die with target lock is better than most missiles.

    Great video for the hit/evade math alone.

  • @ForceM1782
    @ForceM1782 11 років тому

    I absolutely agree about this analysis. But even With support ships handing you actions, i doubt Push the limit is not pretty much better every time. Just because Target lock plus Focus is both offensively and defensively better, costs less, and is a standalone option even without support ships.

  • @xuse2005

    I give Wedge Expose and pair him with Biggs so losing the agility doesn't matter. I understand the stats but 5 attack dice at range 1 combined with Wedge's pilot skill is so tempting. This strategy hasn't failed me yet, but I guess I can consider what else those 4 points can do for me.

  • @RubiksCubeMaster2017

    I am too lazy to calculate the averages, but my experience is that expose ends up being very helpful against folks who use evades over focuses (which many TIE flyers do). That is a case where having the extra potential damage to negate the extra evade comes in really handy.
    I guess the counter-argument would be that if the opponent knows he is up against evade, he will choose to use focus instead...

    Works great on zero agility ships (decimator, ghost, etc) You can't have negative agility so it adds an attack dice and does not change the agility.

    • @tylr3669
      @tylr3669 8 років тому +2

      +John Simmons Is it better against low Agi ships also? I would think against deci the extra die is worth it...but maybe only when you can get free focus?

    Put expose on a decimator with experimental interface.

  • @bgorion
    @bgorion 10 років тому +3

    You are constantly talking about your chance of hitting increasing from 50% to 75% when taking a focus token. This is correct when rolling only one die, but what if you role multiple dice and more than one get an eyeball? Did you consider this in your math?

    Here's a convenient Expose application.
    Tycho Celchu 26 - 34
    A-Wing Test Pilot - 0
    Chardaan Refit - -2
    Push The Limit - 3
    Expose - 4
    Experimental Interface - 3

    • @Traumglanz

      +MicroClicka TL >PTL > Focus > EI Expose for 2 Stress.
      New hyped psycho tycho is Focus and pseudo target lock from rage + Boost/Evade for 3 Stress. (Boost > PTL >Evade > IE > Rage.
      Though you could do Expose > IE > Rage for 3 Stress now .... TL+Focus, extra die, not really helpful compared to old expose tycho, while old tycho has a little more trouble to positing himself compared to psycho tycho.

      That old build I threw up there was just for fun. A more serious one would just have Wired and Rage for 26 points.

    Idk how 2 and 2.5 balances it. I only have 1.0 and play casually. I feel like it should be a sub weapon in the slot it uses now. 4 attack, range of 1-2 Takes an action to use. Maybe nerf to 5 or 6 cost. (Due to scum sub weapons being sorta capped at 3 red, 1-3 range and 4ish cost.) You don't lose defense, you get to put this on ships that often could never get a sub weapon like Ties. Honestly it would be heavily used on scum and Empire if it was set up this way.

    1) can Experimental Interface allow you to take this action twice and throw 3+2 dice instead of 3+1? So like on Corryn I was thinking it could be good.2) I'm planning to run it on Soonter Fel Interceptor with autothruster and experimental interface. Idea being, boost or roll for position, range 1 up the butt out of their arc, EI for stress + focus, Expose for 5 dice. Note: This is in a deck with Lamda with intelligence agent on board for spying on enemy moves. Worth it?Thanks very helpful for new players...like myself :)

    • @dandyx12
      @dandyx12 8 років тому

      +Tylr No, you are still limited to doing any given action once per turn, also expose is terribad on Soontir, Interceptors need all the agility they can get due to lack of shields, the usual Fel set up is Royal Guard Title, Push the Limit, Autothrusters and either Targetting Computer or Stealth Device, meaning you can either play defensive or offensive as needed

    i was thinking about using it for range one attacks with wisper he gets a free focus with a hit and if you put advance cloaking device on it you can recloak too and still have three defense die range one attacks with whisper would be redonkulous six attack die with expose and three shield and you still get your focus cause of his ability

    • @nathanmitchell7663
      @nathanmitchell7663 9 років тому

      +Dustin Parks that's one of the best places for Expose but Expose isn't the best Elite Pilot Talent for Whisper in that situation, I would rather have Predator.

    What about with jake farrell? expose + boost + focus + boost. at range 1 out of ark, 4 dice against even 3 defense averages almost 2 hits per attack

    • @dbu3619
      @dbu3619 8 років тому

      +asofnow4 You can't use the same action twice in one round even if one is a free action so you could not use boost twice. You'd have to barrel roll as his free action if you used boost previously.
      Also how are you using expose and boost (two actions)? Push The Limit? That's an expensive A-Wing. And at PS7 you will move before almost all of the other arc dodgers out there (which is why a lot of people run Veteran Instincts on Jake with PTL).
      Why not use Outmaneuver if you're planning on being out of their arc anyway and are fine with PS7? Not exactly the same, I know, but it's 1 pt less and it doesn't reduce your defense dice at all (which you need even with an arc dodger with everyone and their brother running Twin Laser Turret).

    • @asofnow4
      @asofnow4 8 років тому

      +DBU I had a poor understanding of that rule at the time. I currently run him with opportunist/outmaneuver/chardaan/autothrusters/a-wing title. flying behind poe who is a great ace hunter with vi. so by the time jake shoots they're usually tokenless. I've learned to fly him without relying on ptl. makes him hit harder imo

  • @Belphoron

    Why is it a 50/50 chance to hit with a red attack D8 when it only has 2 Hits and 1 Critical?
    That is 3/8th which is less than 50% and nearer to 1/3rd
    (not taking Focus into account)

    • @Traumglanz
      @Traumglanz 8 років тому +2

      +Friedrich Faustus If that would be the dice, you would be right. But the dice has 3 hits and 1 cirt , 2 focus and 2 blanks.
      Means as well that expose gets you more crits at the costs of less overall hits.

  • @DarkAvatar1313

    So how does Expose on Youngster TIE Fighter change the math?

    • @MrRipYourHeadOff
      @MrRipYourHeadOff 8 років тому

      I tried running youngster with expose, howlrunner (obviously), mithel, scourge and a gozanti with fleet officer and that gave me the potential to roll 5 dice with mithel or scourge at range 1 with 1 free re-roll and a focus token. like the video said, expose is worth it if you have synergies. other than having the ability to get focus tokens and rerolls elsewhere, expose is basically always worse on average regardless of how many times you use it (like in swarm)

  • @CrimWorld9
    @CrimWorld9 9 років тому +6

    Geez, you REALLY need to remake this video. So much stumbling for trying to convey something simple.
    Each die provides a 0.5 chance to hit
    Focus is 0.75
    If you original have 1 attack die = 0.75 for Focus or (0.5 * 2) 1 for Expose
    2 attack dice = (0.75 * 2) 1.5 for Focus, (0.5 * 3) 1.5 for Expose
    3 attack dice = (0.75 * 3) 2.25 for Focus, (0.5 * 4) 2 for Expose
    4 attack dice = (0.75 * 4) 3 for Focus, (0.5 * 5) 2.5 for Expose
    In short, Expose is garbage... UNLESS you have several actions. If you are able to Expose + Focus its good. Tho probably not amazing unless you are able to Expose + Focus + Target Lock, and you started at 3 attack dice.

    • @Traumglanz
      @Traumglanz 8 років тому +1

      +Crim World Target Lock + Focus = 0.93.5 hits per die. Focus + expose = 0.75 hits per die and an extra of 0.75 hit overall.
      atk 1d = 0.935 vs 1.5 hits
      atk 2d = 1.875 vs 2.25 hits
      atk 3d = 2.8125 vs 3 hits
      atk 4d = 3.75 vs 3.75 hits
      atk 5d = 4.6875 vs 4.5 hits
      So yeah, expose is garbage often even when you have double actions, especially in case of aces who often can get their extra dice via just rolling or boosting into range one without spending 4 points on a card and reducing your evades results by 0.375 / 0.625.
