Hi Joe. What an excellent review. Everything completely clearly explained and at a great pace. Well done. I came to this (initial) review from the '4yrs later' follow up. That was also excellent. I like the cut of your jib, so I have subscribed. Regards Mark in the UK
Honest and frank review. I came to this after seeing the 4 year update review. Proves you were correct in your judgement in this one. I have a number of screwfix Titan products and they haven't let me down yet. Nice to see reviews from ordinary working people rather than a sales rep. Going to get one - soon as they come back in stock. Thanks
Thanks mate! Really glad you found the reviews useful. I always watch reviews before I buy anything haha cant beat seeing what actually users think of the products
Had one of these given to me few months back, brand new and never used. Couple thing to look out for when setting it up. 1. check the out feed on jointer with a straight edge against in feed with a spirit level. I found the out feed table was 1/4 inch lower at the end, resulting in a 3 foot 1 inch board have a curve in the centre. With no adjustment on the out feed bed I made a 1/4 inch wedge the width and length of the out feed tablet to compensate. Now its all square and flat. 2. The in and out feeds of the planer are too short resulting in a small step at the end of the board, again on a 3 foot by 1 length. Made two extensions two feel long one for each side drilled and bolted on. Works fine now. Joe mentioned the in feed table on the jointer had some play in it. The yellow locking nut has a washer fitted with a recess on one side and you assume the recess goes on the yellow side on the locking mechanism, in fact it faces the machine side locking the in feed steady. All in all not a bad machine, just mass produced and lacking in quality. But with a little time and effort you can get exultant results from it for the home DIY person
Thank you very much for the comprehensive review, Joe. One of the very best so far I have seen on UA-cam. Straightforward review without any bells and whistles. Excellent technical content. Thumbs up and subscribed. Best of luck Joe.
Well I've just bought this and put it together. Not familiar with such tools so most appreciate your review Joe. Also good to see your still happy four years on. Thanks for your no nonsense review, I feel much more comfortable using it now.
A bloody good and honest review, thanks Joe. Great delivery, easy to follow, and using easy basic easy to understand language. Well done. I’ve ordered mine on the basis of your review.
I know i'm a bit late to the party but i was researching getting one of these and your video popped up. This was a great video, clear and concise. really well done! Thank you.
Well.. I have to say, that was one of the best and most simple yet comprehensive detailed and informative reviews I have seen. You did exactly what you had said on the Tin!...Well done, and no Fukin stupidly annoying Music. .Ten out of Ten... hope you get thousands of subscribers. I have subscribed and thumb's upped you, to help! Well done Mate.
I had a couple of planer thicknesser machine in mind to purchase and I couldn’t make my mind up. After watching your reviews you made me buy the Titan one. Your video made it easier for me to set up and use. Brilliant bit of kit. Brilliant video thank you
This is the most helpful video . Thankyou. I couldn't workout the dust extractor but your video solved my problem straight away . Thank you so much please keep making the videos you are straight forward uncomplicated and VERY HELPFUL and interesting
Brilliant review, to the point , most reviews talk a lot but dont give any useful information for ages, this guy told me what I wanted to know straight away. thanks!! love the accent by the way :)
Thanks Rob! Glad you found it helpful. I always look at reviews before buying anything and like you say half the time they just waffle on about irrelevant stuff lol
Thanx for your well presented review and thoughts on this machine. I have just bought one and your, and others, videos helped me tweak and set it up begore I even processed a single foot of timber through it. I think I have got it pretty well set up...level plates, lubed gears, bushes, chains and shafts. Removed annoying red cover button. Bypassed safety switch so no need for the extractor shuffle. Squared up fence. Checked blade leveling to feed plate. I also sorted the feeder tools by attaching 80 grit sand paper to them... to eliminate slipping. I have also made a roller device to hold down the out put timber side on the planer surface.
Thanks very much for this video. A friend and I couldn't work out how to fit the dust extraction unit and it was only by watching this video that we found out. Many thanks
Excellent no frill straight forward guide, you take your time and explain simply whats going on..well done Joe your a credit to you tube. You get my vote👏👏
Hi Joe, I finally got this machine. Ordered it on the Sunday of the 2018 screwfix show (just before I found you and had a chat) and it was in my local branch on the Mondy night ready for collection. Wasn't able to play with it until yesterday and it's great. I used it to process a whole load of pallet wood. Early on, something nicked the blades so everything comes out with a tiny ridge. New blade or maybe take a file to the nick.... I got a metal detector, push blocks and an adapter and hoze set from rutlands and combined them with a cheapo cyclone and a 30litre food barrel from ebay to use with an old dyson that has been knocking around in the shed for years. Works perfectly. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Andy! Glad it got to you so quickly, screwfix has a great service like that! Shame about hitting a nail but the metal detector will definitely help with that in future. Re sharpening the blades will remove the the dent if its not too deep. If its a deep gauge then it might be better to get some new blades. Ive never sharpened mine since Ive had it so I dont know how easy the process is haha sounds like youve got a great setup now! I have a cyclone but I run everything off 1 extension lead in my shed so I dont run the planer and the vac at the same time haha its a waste really lol
Thank You Joe , an excellent no nonsense review. I have been looking to buy a planer, and if every one done reviews like this it would make life much easier, when your choosing one on a limited budget. Thanks again
Great video. very helpful as i'm looking to buy one of these. Its nice to see a well made review that is not drowned out with pointless music which nearly all the yanky ones are!
I have an Erbauer version of this and changing from thicknesser to planer is the same. When I use the planer I jam a piece of wood on the inner platform and raise it up under the switch. It means a lot less buggering about with bits of plastic.
Mine was delivered this morning from Screwfix - I only ordered it yesterday afternoon so well done them! Had a slight hitch when the planer infeed table wouldn't move - turned out that the small allen screw had been done up too tight so slackened it off a little and all's well. Tried it out on some sawn green oak and the finish is very good indeed! It is a noisy machine so ear defenders are a must. Thanks again Joe!
I have to say I’ve been thinking for a long time about purchasing one of these and after watching this review and how clearly you’ve explained things about it, I’m very strongly considering it. A super review and an excellent video joe. Now subscribing mate.
Joe I have spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the extractor setup. Of course the Oracle that is youtube has provided the answer. Great piece and made as simple as for us Average Joe's. Thank you from Tyneside.
Great review young man, it is an honest review which is what I appreciate. It shows a lot of stuff which is similar to other brands of planer/jointers which is what was after. Thanks for your views, they are appreciated.
@@AverageJoesJoinery I ended up buying a jointer/planer very similar to the one you reviewed. I know it is not the best on the market by far, BUT it works more than adequately for what I want and need to do. I bought the Ryobi JP 254 in the end, as it is all that was available in the closest large town.
Thanks Joe, I was in the market for a planer/thickness and did have the Erbauer 1500-250mm-electric-planer-thicknesser-220-240v in my basket with Screwfix which is more expensive and your review saved me some money and stress.... and I’ve also reviewed the Erbauer as well and this planer has many issues with reliability so am going to take your advice and buy the Titan. keep up the honest reviews.
Thanks Roy. I havent got hands on experience with the Erbauer but from what Ive heard its very similar performance wise. I dont think you can go wrong for the money with the Titan
Hi Joe, I looked at the reviews for the Erbauer and there was many issues with drive belts snapping and the wheel that the belts fit around being not centred and not machined properly causing a wobble when in use..... from what I’ve seen I will be saying well away from the Erbauer... on this occasion more expensive does not mean more reliable.
One problem I found with the thicknesser is that the extraction hood jams up with shavings and quickly starts to interfer with the wood feed. Ended up cutting the hood in half to stop the shavings clogging.
This is the second time I watched this review. Excellent in depth review and I am convinced this is the one for me. I have bought titan before and not been let down. This review has confirmed my choice. Thank you.
Looking on eBay and the unsafe push blocks came to mind. Maybe attach some rubber feet bumpons ? Give extra grip and possibly be used then. 3m make them. A back up in an emergency ?
I've been looking at a few new purchases and the reviews out there can be so vague and unhelpful, yours however was straight to the point and covered things like the actual use and day to day needs of the average small shop user. Well done, liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the review Joe. I'm in the market for a planer/thicknesser and as I have other Titan products that have proven to be well made, dependable and at a price that doesn't break the bank, I checked out your review. I have decided that I will go with the Titan based on my past experience with the brand and your review. many thanks.
Thanks for this review matey. Great stuff. I had already bought it and was looking for some clear instruction on a couple of things. You hit all the right buttons for me and I am now happily planing away!
Thanks Joe - excellent review....and the update one as well, a few years later....I have just bought a Macallister MPT 1500 (in France, but I think it is same in B&Q) and it looks almost identical to this model - no doubt same factory.....cheers
Regarding the switch - to open it you don't need to push that yellow piece down, just slide that red round button up. It should work as it does on my Woodstar PT85.
Good review bud, i've had this machine for a couple of years now and I love it, I have a few Titan tools and swear by them. The 2 flat pushers, I bought a couple of sheets of self adhesive foam rubber, stuck that on the bottom of each pusher, no more slipping it worked a treat.
Thanks Joe ........... Good honest once more . This bit of kit looks like it will save us a lot of work ....... appreciate your time . Thanks again & all the best .

I have that machine, Great bit of kit for the price. I made a circle of wood to fit the dust extraction port and then drilled a hole in that for my shop at. Works ok, gets a bit clogged but easy to clear and less dust.
brilliant review How, big thanks cos you have managed to make my mind up, I was kinda decided on buying a 12 inch, but after watching this ,it became apparent that this would sort out all my dig needs , so from me here in Barnsley Yorkshire, a big big thank you
+garry smythe Thanks Garry! Really glad to hear you found my review helpful. I cant speak highly enough of this planer. It has payed for itself multiple times over now. So glad I bought it and didnt stump up more money for a better known brand 😊
Just bought one today from Screwfix. £199. Used it to plane up some Accoya which i needed to glue to make some weather bars for a garage door. Does the job. I don’t find the dust extraction too much of an issue - one nut to remove and two threaded screws to reattach. Not too bad. The push blocks are horrible. I’d put this in the same category as my Excel table saw. Great for the money.
A good, honest, straightforward review. Thank you for sharing your experience of this product. (Oh, and thank you for educating me on the workings of a planer/thicknesser!)
This is an awesome review and I’m grateful for the information and no-nonsense presentation. I subscribed to the channel immediately and look forward to seeing more.
Bought one today for £60.00 second hand, the seller clearly didn't use it, as it hasn't got any marks or scratches on it, it looks brand new, total bargain!! Struggled to set it up though, as the instruction manual was more than useless. This video was a great help. 👍👍
Great review Joe lad, it's blokes like you who take the the time to post great reviews like this that helps people like me decide on whether to part with our cash. I have been looking at these machines for a while now but couldn't decide on to get one or not as I didn't know of anyone who had bought one. But after watching your video it was enough for me to order one from screwfix yesterday and it arrived today. And yes the dust extractor is a pain but hey ho we'll manage eh?But again mate thanks again for a great review it was most helpful.
I got one of these. Its a cheapish Finnish private label jointer/thickness planer. And funnily they propably make these by hundreds of thousands and label them differently. For a small shop it does what I need. Price for value ratiois very good in my opinion
They definitely seem to have a standardised machine that gets a lot of relabels. Cant go wrong for the money though. Its paid for itself numerous times over now
I had a quick look at this review as I was looking to buy one myself and decided it will do for what I need. I would like to comment that at 0.35 in the video, the stop switch is spring loaded and pulls up vertically allowing release of the catch and the start switch to be accessed with ease. All reviews that I have seen state that the switch isn't much cop. I think people haven't quite understood the operation method of the switch.
An absolutely smashing review joe, thank you so very much. I'm so glad i search for this before purchasing one myself cause I didn't think Titan was such a good make after having had experience with some of their gardening tools. Now, thanks to your video, I shall confidently buy one myself and if necessary make some minor modifications if and where needed in order to speed up the swapping mode process. Thank you so much
Thanks mate! Really glad you found it helpful. Its not often the ‘cheaper’ tools actually turn out to be pretty good but when they do its a no brainer haha
Thanks for the review, I’m watching in December 2019 (saw tour second review first). I’ve been tempted to buy one of these machines and your review was a great no nonsense review. Thanks
A nice bit of kit, although the issue I have with the one I just bought is that the in-feed and out-feed tables are not co-planar. The in-feed table has a sag in it that I've yet to find a way to adjust. Putting a straight edge along the beds, reveals about a 2-3mm sag at the right hand side of the in-feed table. If I can't adjust it away, then it'll have to go back. Getting nasty bows in previously flat rough edges, so glad I've been getting used to it before using it in earnest. Good review though.
a great solid no bullshit review. thanks as I am looking at this model for exactly what you seem to be using for and there were no other reviews. ps the plastic push blocks could have rubber or rug non slip matting glued underneath to make them useable and safe. keep up the great work and you have just got a new subscriber thanks

brilliant review How, big thanks cos you have managed to make my mind up, I was kinda decided on buying a 12 inch, but after watching this ,it became apparent that this would sort out all my dig needs , so from me here in Barnsley Yorkshire, a big big thank you
+garry smythe Thanks Garry!
Thanks Ray! Really glad you found it helpful 😊
This is an awesome review and I’m grateful for the information and no-nonsense presentation. I subscribed to the channel immediately and look forward to seeing more.
Thanks mate! Glad it was of help 🙏

thanks joe,i am just setting mine up,glad someone put a review up,it helps
Thanks Pete! Im glad you found it helpful :)
Bought one today for £60.00 second hand, the seller clearly didn't use it, as it hasn't got any marks or scratches on it, it looks brand new, total bargain!! Struggled to set it up though, as the instruction manual was more than useless. This video was a great help. 👍👍
Thanks Joe. good honest review. I've just bought one and it works great so far.
Great vid! I was considering buy this model, but wasn't sure. You're vid help me make up my mind!!
An excellent detailed in depth and clear review
Thanks Ryan! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Excellent review I have spent weeks trying to decide if it is this one or the one Ferrex do, I think I will be going for this one now. Thank you
Thanks Gary! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Did you finally get it ?
Good review Joe. It makes me very happy that you take safety seriously. I'm gonna get one.
Thanks for the excellent review mate. You've answered all my questions and more. I'm off to buy one now ☺
Thanks mate! Really glad you found it useful 😊
Its paid for itself numerous times over now
Excellent review you've convinced me, It looks to be just what I need, Thanks Joe
Just bought this planer thanks so much you covered all the questions I had well done I have subscribed to your channel Joe thanks again.
Thanks! Really glad you found it helpful 😊
+Becca Atkinson Thanks Becca! Glad you found the review helpful. I feel like a right idiot with the switch haha
+Average Joe's Joinery Sorry, it wasn't a negative comment lol
I didnt take it negatively lol sorry
What a great refreshingly uncomplicated honest review, well done joe and very, very informative! Many thanks,
Pete Evans (Brummie Boy)
Great review, was pondering if to buy or not and this has made my mind up. Many thanks.
+Phil Cole-Wilde Thanks Phil! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Thanks very much for a great review. Just bought one and now looking forward to using it soon.
Nice review. Clear and concise, I now know what a planer thicknesser is! Thanx for good review.
+Dr. Badly Crumble Haha thanks mate! Im glad you found it helpful. A planer thicknesser is a very handy tool to have 😊
I've been thinking about buying one of these. After you great review, I've made my mind up to get one. Thanks Joe
+Jim Ackroyd Thanks Jim! Im really glad you found my review helpful 😊 you cant go wrong for the price 👍
Great review
Thanks mate!
Excellent review! Very thorough and clearly explained.
Thanks mate! Glad you found it helpful :)
great review bro. this is what i want to see. it always questioning me which one should i buy.
Thanks for the review, I’m watching in December 2019 (saw tour second review first). I’ve been tempted to buy one of these machines and your review was a great no nonsense review. Thanks
Thanks mate! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Thanks Joe. Just about to buy one. Great review 👍
Got the axminster version it's exactly the same planer , had to replace the rubber drive belt after two years but it's still going strong .
I started with a similar machine. It was a Jet but operated the same. I would have probably removed that switch cover by now!
