Went to see Dance Gavin Dance, saw Covet open and fell in love with the sound, the vibe of their music, the joy all 3 of them had on their faces and the passion they had for music. Of course, the guitarist had me wrapped around her finger, that's a given. Just so much talent and love for music across the board and I enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

ive heard pieces of this song for a long time leading up to the album and it still blew away all my expectations. it's so emotionally charged and incredibly talented. hits me in the feels in a way i can't describe. can't wait for the rest of the album!
For the ones that came back to this still in 2020 or later years. (in my opinion) this song literally depicts the love that Yvette and Sander (San holo) had. The moment Sander came into the shot the green screen images became blooming flowers meaning the blossoming of their relationship (yes they had a relationship) Sadly people come and go so this isn't the case anymore. San holo also made a song about love later on called "Love wip" (wip is edm language for work in progress) in which you can hear a clip of Yvette talking about love. On San holo's album 1 commentary album you can hear him talk about the meaning of that song and with the information I just gave you, this clip of him talking about it makes it a lot more understandable. But the changes in drum rhythm and his syncopation is like 💋👌.. he also thows in some polyrhythms the cymbol changes are what really change the tone of the entire song, they are notnot just background beat and tempo filler,

J Pettey when you start listening to the style and learning the songs it becomes more natural than you’d imagine. It’s still insanely challenging. Can’t imagine how long it takes to compose these and get them tracked and mixed right
It really depends on your approach to music in general, honestly. Some people like to hear it out loud, and piece it together. Some still like to figure out a few different ideas on paper and work out the connections later. If you really want to make good math rock (or any sort of progressive music) I think learning more about music theory is the first step. Having examples to work off of is another good step. I’d look at Schism or Lateralus by Tool if you want to hear some more solid examples of using advanced rhythm to communicate ideas. Another elementary example is “My Curse”, by Killswitch Engage. It has a pretty easy to digest time signature switch that can help you take the first steps to writing your own music with time signature changes.
