Hey thanks for opening up this comment!
I’d like to tell you more about the story of the Taoist Wellness Online, Master Gu’s Online Academy. How the Academy started is quite a funny story 🙈.
We could never have imagined that today we are now the biggest Tai Chi school IN THE WORLD!
It all began when I was 3 years into my journey living with Master Gu in his mountainous Tai Chi School.
Master Gu is fluent in English and has always seen it as his life mission to share the healing Taoist arts of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Meditation with the world. He shared with me his vision to create not only online courses, but an online Academy.
I was excited by this vision and shared how I could use my filmmaking and inter-web skillz to make it happen.
We then had a cup of tea and Master Gu sang Chinese opera while playing the guitar… 🤠☯
We are really proud of what we have built. We now are a 16-person team from 7 countries and we are on a mission to create films, communities and transformative education to help people and planet live in balance.
The Online Academy is one of the best ways you can help us on our mission and you get so much learning!
If you become a student of the online Academy, you get:
    - Access to 100+ hours of teaching with Master Gu, recorded with love from the heart of China.
    - Learn with him in forests, caves and temples - all from the comfort of your own home.
    - An awesome student community! With regular online meet-ups.
    - Monthly livestreams with George and Master Gu
    - A (new) Taoist Wellness App so you can learn easily on the go.
Best of all you can start for free with Master Gu’s free wellness wisdom course. 70,000 people have completed it so far.
Click the link below to start learning for free, and see for yourself why so many people are getting excited! 💪

I practiced a version of ba duan jin every morning for several months, then got distracted by ego saying I should do “real exercise” instead. It was all self conscious and to do with changing my body for the approval of others. Today I felt called, after finally losing motivation with my other routine (because it was not soul driven!) to do this again, but I wanted a different version that wasn’t as serious as the one I’d started with. This was the perfect reintroduction to doing familiar movements in a less intense and serious way. I am continuously uprooting ego’s seriousness and wanting to be playful in everything I do, and loving myself exactly as I am - moving my body for the increase of vitality and energy flow, but not necessarily to change it in any way, rather allow it to take the shape it most desires and feels most healthful and aligned with. There really is nothing serious going on here (: Thank you for this quick and easy practice ❤🙏

George, honest to God, you just make my whole soul smile whenever I see you. I hope you know what a difference you're making in my little world, and I'm sure in many others'. Also, I sense a powerful new authority and groundedness in you that comes from the intense work of self-inquiry and time spent in the practice. As we say in the Budo community, "Hakka yoi!" Keep going, dear George. The planet is better for having you in it.

To me having an aesthetic background to give an atmosphere of serenity and meditation is one of the primary requisites for having a good Ba Duan Jin video, George’s choice of the mountains of Scotland at sunset was one of the best along with Shi Heng Yi’s filmed in the snow at Otterberg Germany. George went to the trouble of showing one how to breathe correctly which is half of qigong which is sadly missing in many videos. I consider this the best because of George’s expectations of how far an adult Westerner can bend their neck back and how far one can bend one’s back backward. This is missing on videos produced by some Chinese and Vietnamese instructors. Shi Heng Yi can bend his almost as far back as Neo in the Matrix but he started training when he was four years old. I’ve been copying Ba Duan Jin with Shi Heng Yi’s demonstration video from July 2020. Since it has no instructions, I had to remember a page that I read in my qigong book in 1992. I do Shi Heng Yi’s version quite badly being 68 years old with a broken neck and limited range of shoulder movement. Thich Man Tue from Plum Village Monastery in France recommends doing 15 minutes of Ba Duan Jin in the morning and 10 in the afternoon. I do She Heng Yi’s video in the morning and George’s which is less demanding in the afternoon. I can replicate the exercises in this video. The one thing missing in all of the Ba Duan Jin video’s if that I’ve never seen anyone really look fierce except for the teacher in Kungfu life’s video filmed in the UK.

I hope that George's wonderful Ba Duan Jin lesson has helped alleviate your suffering as much as it did for me which is tremendous. I had an almost deadly car accident when I was a child, and 2 more as an adult being hit y a drunk driver, pushed in the opposite lane and hit again. Knocked the stuff out of me, including complete amnesia. It all came back, but neck and eyesight was damaged. I survived which I credit to Qi Gong and Yoga practices. I hit an all time low on all levels when I came across George's lesson. His natural cheerfulness, self acceptance and excellent teaching got me back on track, healed internal damages and so uplifted my morale.Have been practcing every morning for about six weeks now; a super way to start a day. Easy, fun and effective. I deeply respect Master Shi Heng Yi, and love his teachings. Between the two teachers..how blessed we are to have access to it all.

Feeling you I use healing sessions and create my own practice to overcome chronic pain try some Lachi practice and then you will be ready to go on with movements just transform yourself into chi first the pain will go and next you can try tapping or reflexology it all can allow you to come back with soft water like movements of Qi gong or another kind of practice hope it can help a bit ! 🧡I am also enjoying the humor and the practice in here 😊 oh and try healing sounds for 5 organs it can help to nourish and harmonize organs and just slow deep hip rotations can do a big change ❤️

i have tried to teach myself a few qi gong moves. I find that when I am feeling down, and my mind is in a place it should not be, qi gong helps me find myself, perspective, helps me feel the hope and harmony of the world. I have never felt any negative feelings even after a few minutes of qi gong. Thank you for teaching me more moves. Daoism is a philosophy that best aligns with my spiritual views and provides me hope for my mental health. I have a journey ahead of me, and daoism helps me focus on the here and now.

Dude, the secret of Baduan Jin Qigong Aka Shaolin eight pieces of brocade is to visualize flow or connection in body meridians for six seconds during stretching postures. For Example, Posture 1 The San Jiao meridian is often called the “Triple Burner” or “Triple Energizer.” It begins in the ring finger where the Pericardium meridian ends. It runs over the back of the hand, the wrist, and lower arm. The benefits are regulate The digestive system, motivate the minds, and improve math ability...etc. This is the entry level of qigong.

Dear friend: a seed has to be planted before it can grow into a baby plant, and then eventually after time become a fully grown whatever it is going to be. Too much knowledge/fertilizer in the beginning of a journey/growth, can destroy the seed/desire to grow. George's gentle voice, flowing elegant natural movement, relaxing music and beautiful background is excellent for beginners and/ or for those of us like myself that tend to overload with info. His video is a wonderful reset, and allows to empty the cup. Traditional Chinese teaching is circular, coming ack to center and then little by little adding more. Works and has worked for me who chose this path in 1989. Furthermore he creates a space for the student to be him/herself . You can always hit the pause button to slow things to your own breathing rythm. Or go under a tree and do it all again your won way:) Love and Light, and thank you for learnng so much and sharing.

As a Tai Chi Chuan Yang practitioner since 1997, I allway wish to be there, close to or into Wudang monastery, with people or person who is from western culture, or with someone, whom I can communicate during (after, of course) practicing, and share experiences and details. Gladly you grow to right person, with big haert full of kindness and understanding. Please, share weidly and humbly, as till now. I wish to go to Wudang, meet your master Gu and you and maightbe to learn something more. Some dreams can happen, is on us. Till then, we are connected with Universe Qi.

that was great, I enjoy your videos. holding the breath I felt a bit more charged and flowing, I do find it distracting when you count the breathing as I seem to do it slower. Other than that the guidance was very helpful. You're a master

George, can you say what your feet are doing during the exercises when the legs are far apart? The grass hides them. I wonder if you let the feet point outward with the knee on the Bear and Fierce Gaze ones, or do you keep them straight ahead? Thanks.

@GeorgeThompson Could you please make a video about using breathing to overcome the fear of death / death anxiety? I'm struggling a lot from this and I think a video on this topic would really help me.

    • @George-Thompson
      @George-Thompson  Рік тому

The Daoists are funny in that they celebrate death! As a natural transformation.
I talk about death in Week 3 of the Dao 101 course: www.wayfinder.academy/daoism-course
I'm planning on doing a video on it eventually!
      Hope some of that helps.
I also talk about death in this video: ua-cam.com/video/piCfNls5gqE/v-deo.html

Nice advice for mornings, I couldnt help but notice when one arm pushes up, the other down, once the lower palm faces inward on the left and forward on the right. Which is correct?

    • @George-Thompson
      @George-Thompson  Рік тому

So long as the palm is parallel as possible to the floor the orientation is less important. Being consistent on each side is important, which I may have missed there!

Holy sh*t! How do you get 27k views on a qigong video? Let alone within 2 weeks after uploading? Tell me the secret! I am trying to get a bigger audience for my Qigong videos and wrongfully concluded nobody seems to be interested in Qigong. Some constructive feedback on my Qigong videos would be appreciated
