The XR3i has a 4.29 final drive gearbox which is what makes them so fun to drive with only 102/105/110hp.

@@SA77888 102bhp. That’s packin some serious horses in the stable. cars were much lighter back then. Now they are fat and full of safety gizmos etc, so they need more power. I still mostly prefer the older stuff

Don't know where you got your figures from the xr3 had 96 ps and the xr3i had 105 ps
@@markwood8061 Depends on the injection type and country they were sold.
For example the XR3i in Germany only had 90hp because they had cats on them, and the later Efi version had 102hp.
Standard XR3is sold elsewhere had 105hp and EFIs had 108/110 depending on who you ask.

Forgot to just how rough a CVH engine sounds once past 5000 rpm. It looked really slow here but back in the 80's and pre RS Turbo this was one of the quickest cars the average man could buy.

The good old Constant Vibration and Harshness engine. Always sounded (and felt) like it was dying over 5,000 RPM, and the cams were usually toast by 50-60k, even with religious servicing. Not one of Ford's better efforts.
But it's still on the road today 🙄

@@r6clips445 any engine can be kept going or rebuilt entirely if the car it’s installed in is worth enough money to justify the time and cost of doing so. Old performance Fords are worth good money.

wow, this is amazing, i mean i have an xr3i too, with the same engine, but the car is so light i would never dare to go past 130km/h, because the first sideway wind would throw me off the road. Great car though, small, low, fast and reliable even if its the same age as me

I don't think your CVH is at full health. A healthy injected 1.6 CVH should crack 115mph in an escort. The speedos over read by a good 10% so you should be seeing at least 200KM/H. If it's had a good service then I would start some engine diagnostics. I'm not pulling your chain I ran a lot of CVH engine cars and raced them for a fair few years.
Depsite the mileage showing, it does sound abnormally thrashy - cam wear maybe...

I could be wrong but this seems more like XR3 performance, Seems a bit slow to be a XR3i to me. Seems no faster than my old 1988 xr2 that used to do nearly 120mph The uk CVH XR3i's used to be 105bhp at least till F reg and did the 0-60 in around 8.6 seconds and had a top speed of 120-125mph. The rare mk3 115bhp RS1600i were even quicker again. never got to go in one of those unfortunatly
MJ G my panther kallista has a cvh xr2 engine tuned up a bit. it's got 137hp it's pretty quick.

Vcs são burros isso sim, não é CHT e nem AP esse motor!! É CVH na Europa não usava CHT. Esse motor da benga em AP fácil fácil, Brasil sempre fico com as coisas ultrapassadas CHT e AP, foda esse pais

Motor CVH 1.6 com injeção eletrônica de 4 bicos. Este motor era para ter vindo ao Brasil. Mas não veio. Ele é mais eficiente do que o AP. Tem versão turbo e já competiu nos rallye europeus.
