I had a B reg for 2 years and an E reg for 10 years. They were very reliable and never failed an MOT. It made me popular with the girls too.
please make these a bit longer so we can see them being driven when finished and final selling price :)
Then watch the 45 min wheeler dealers program 🤔
You can watch the full show on the tv
^^not everyone lives in the UK, we can’t simply watch it on tv lol
It's on Discovery +
They've spent 5k+ and sold it for 7.5k
The XR3 Pram 🤣😅😂
Had a silver one with a black stripe ! and a rear aerofoil.
One of my favourite cars of the 80s.
They were absolute toilets.
An absolute tart up of an XR3i, I bet the battery tray is non existent and the rear chassis legs have long gone! 😂
Hats off to Tony the roof guy, doing his highly skilled and difficult job in front of the camera.
Need help with a roof fit North east uk
I had one of these in red, except it was the mark three, it was known as the 1600 injection cabriolet, and was half the price of the XR3 and XR3i to insure… yes had everything an XR3 had interior and engine wise
I had a 1990 G plate 2 tone blue and silver with RS alloys, looked awesome at first glance. It was the EFI so fuel pump in tank problems, rear trailing arm SNAPPED, roof leaked like a sieve, engine sounded like a sewing machine, starter wouldn't spin when hot, wheel bearings needed doing every other MOT, door handle snapped off one morning! All that said, I'm looking at buying another 🙂
I went to this guy to sort my roof out on my Alfa Romeo Spider. He did a great job!
Wonderful tv shows, PLEASE keep making them, we all love them.
Elvis revives it whilst mike blabs utter bull 😂
I still have a valve stem oil seal tool in my tool box! Easy job.
Growing up my parents had a pink one of these convertable Xr3i. My dad still says to this day he wishes he never got rid of it, such a cool car have to dig through some paperwork in a bit to find the reg and see if it's still on the road
Mike looked all shook up when elvis had finished the car.
Blue cars had a black stripes in the bumpers and down the sides. Also this car had slightly earlier style alloys rather than the later lattice ones which this year of car would have had. It was probably delivered with steel wheels & wheel covers when it was new.
You are right. The G reg had different alloys.
I only remember these alloys on MK4's and the MK3's obviously had the clover leaf alloys, the MK3 RS alloys (on the RS Turbo) were the best, MK4 RS Turbo had the double lattice wheels.
@@HalfdeadRider Yep the turbo's were a less dense lattice style. Later Xr3i's MK4 for only a few years have the more complex harder to clean lattice. Also the new alloys and updated front bumper plus grey velour seats replaced the earlier black with red detailing of the earlier mk4's.
You clearly need to update the look of your channel. At the end of each video you show another picture of Ant, while he has been gone for almost 2 years.
is dec still there if ants away
I got my mind
Just this last year I found 91 xr3i cab hiding in Manchester so I scooped it up for 8k and brought it back with me to the states where it’s happily lives in Arizona
Hi I need a tutorial video to explain how to put the roof XR3i can you help as I looked all over UA-cam
Had many Xrs and they went well (especially on the arches)
I've changed the valve stem oil seals in situ on CVH engines several times. Not sure why Elvis went to all the trouble of dropping the engine.
Indeed…I still have the tool in my garage
I couldn't work that one out either. Did you notice how no gearbox oil dripped out when he popped the driveshafts out? I wouldn't be surprised if the diff had been running dry.
they dropped the engine to clean it and make it as nice as poss, same as the engine bay and whatnot, at a guess.
@@Missed_Apex_GT Elvis had a tool in his garage.
I remember the blue xr3i on itv,s garages form hell .that one was a real horror story .if you want one of these it shows you the areas where to look on these .
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE UPLOAD THE FULL XR3i
I NEED TO SEE THIS COMPLETE
crazy prices on the UK shores, you can get a xr3i coupe for 2.5k here and a cabrio for just over a grand.
Love this car! XR3s were all the rage in my country (Brasil) during the 80s, and the convertible bacame one of the most desireable cars since then.
They used the 1.6l CHT engine on the beginning, and later received the 1.8l and 2.0 AP angine from VW.
CHTs were a local chimaera that starte life back in the late 60s as a Renault engine, developed by Willys that was inherited by Ford, and reached VW by the end of its days. It was a very reliable motor and fitted well in the XR3.
The VW AP is a lengend by itself. While it has some inehent flaws, it is also have been heavily upgraded for racing.
To make it short: this car is remarkable!
CHT engines where sold in northern europe in MK3's. We had 1.3LX and 1.6LX Sao Paolo Brazil Escorts too. 1.3LX was almost 1.4L (Renault) :)
Sabia que ia achar um índio véio aqui kkkk
Orion 2dr with VW engine in S-America is weird. Ford Verona i think it was called :) With 1.8 engine
You don't need to take the engine out to change the valve seals.
yes you do!!!
@killieguyno1 really, I used to change them by taking off the rocker cover, bringing the oiston to tdc, compressing the valve spring, removing the collets, changing the valve seal and moving on to the next valve. I must have done it 30 times.
@@leecwilkin so you dream 😆
@@leecwilkin ignore the troll mate, I know you are right. Even if you had to take the head off, you don't need to take the engine out. I used to work at a ford dealer back in the 80s, we used to feed a length of old fan belt in through the spark plug hole with the piston at TDC, just to make sure the valves couldn't drop.
True Lee I have done loads of them up my own drive
I had one of these on a 1986 C plate same colour with dog leg alloys but my roof was manual for some reason
Sadly we never got these Fords. This was way too short. I'd like to see much more of the work that was done. Thanks.
You'll have to watch the programme on discovery, this is why they don't put the full episode up unfortunately.
Owned my tin top 3i for 23 years, can't wait to get it back on the road
Hello guys. Can you share tips to restore those cars. I have an rs turbo 88. Please please help
You haven't seen my 1986 xr3i convertible 👍
How much did your one sell for ??
Had a wing on already no paint on underside hence the rot
Mike.. stay off the sausages
Mike's changed his tune
So who fixed the door card
I had 2 MK3 cabs they were thrown together they were not good.i don't know about the MK3 cab. My mate had a astra gte cab bertone was better built
Beautiful blue ; soft top job was tricky ; i really wished i was there when she got an overhaul ! btw i own a ford & i'm a ford fan !
Old out ya and
Oh MY GOD
I Commented earlier we have to see these so am XR3I
I won’t watch this as I need the whole episode
:) i got mine, 90spec LOVE IT
It’s pronounced Porscher. a porch is something fitted round a door.
Weird that Ford in the U.K had all these cool cars but never sold any here in the US. Our escort was a boring grocery getter
Ok!
What / who is the company that tony works for an did the Roof as🤔I need mine doing,,
That CVH engine was nasty even when it was new?
It was a good engine didn't like short journeys that is all
Constant Vibration & Harshness engine 🤣
@@leepower2717 I had one it was alright.
@@leepower2717 You must have had a bad one, I had many and they were never bad for vibration, and not sure what you mean by harsh! Super easy engines to work on too, I could still strip and rebuild one in a day no problem. They were kind of low on torque, but fun little engines.
Had one of these and XR3I hard top. But how can you show a resto in 9 minutes. Let's see what you can really do around an hour long. Frigging annoys me. Same with drew pritchard and his mate. 20 minutes to restore a pile of junk.
Watch the TV programme, still could show more on those tbh.
The first car I wanted to buy and could afford was a black Xr3i coupe. My fiends and dad said no because of the stigma that came with the car 1996.
Had 2 cabs
electric blue and gum grey both had the crap cvh engine and the gearbox wasn't any better
Elvis looks like he’s gonna screw his boat up an shaaaaaat *Loaaaaadsaaaa Mannnnnay*
there is no way of clothes being clean after working on that car
80 90 best hatchback era
Hi
Watched this one earlier today.
There's an XR3 ?i around the corner from me with the front end partially off, not protected, and crying out for someone to take off the guys hands to restore. Wish I had the time, space and skill to do it.
Amazing Elvis, he can pull an engine out of an old escort, on his own in a light coloured hoody and not get a single mark on it.
load of tosh
So many parts to be removed Today's cars are just a couple of Duracell battery s......and off you go .....
0-60 in 9.8 secs, lol....my 1998 5.4 Triton v8, Ford E250 VAN, with the body extension, does it in 9.9 secs....9.8 secs, that a pig
its 1600cc and they were probably more like 8.5/9s 0-60 in the real world.
God awful piles of junk, I went out with a girl who had one. The scuttleshake was massive, plus they were either referred to as a "Dagenham Dustbin" or the "Clitoris Car" (because every c### has one).
The best use for these cars was to fill them with metal and take them to the local scrappy and weigh the whole lot in. FWD Escorts were utter crap. Sorry Ford fans but these tinny things were awful.
I had many escorts and a couple of Orion's, XR3i's and 1.6i Ghia respectively, etc. They were decent cars, the XR3i's were super fun nippy little things, but they were not as torquey as the German 1600 equivalents, but that never bothered me.
they could do third gear burnouts if that makes em any better?
@@Soulvex Not in those piles of crap. 105BHP isn't enough for a third gear "burnout". Absolute heaps of junk.
Its a smaller cheaper mustang
nice
I always wanted one. Then I got a Renault 19 16v executive……. Never wanted the ford after that …..😊
The soft top looked very amateur all those creases in the rear quarters ...very badly fitted I would not have let it out of my workshop like that
Wait they stopped showing man hours put into the work? Shame.
Member 0nly jackets ......
It’s not an XRfree i . Mike Brewer is running out of people who will work with him , they eventually see sense .
Has marc left aswel?
Work for him as he doesn't really get his hands dirty😂
Nice car the only problem is the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car
🤔👁️🕊️♥️👼
I am one of those people who worked in the car industry in the 80s and had the misfortune of having to drive these regularly. Fortunately I didn’t work at a Ford dealer, but at a car rental company that specialised in non-run-of-the-mill cars. We had Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs and fast Fords. This was singularly the most crap car I have ever driven in my life. Absolutely awful in every way shape and form. It was demolished in the magazines by the golf GTi and the Peugeot GTi. Not because of biad, but because the Ford was just so crap in every way, from build quality to handling and performance. if you’re a fan boy of these, good luck to you, just don’t have a drive of something else. Your love for the fast Ford will evaporate very quickly.
To sort video and not showing all the repairs
Sorry to say but Ed was a better mechanic and personality
How do you know he was a better mechanic?
No he was not and is not
How Ugly a car can be. Unbelievable crap!
This show sucked as soon as Edd China was run off. Seriously.
first the escort is NOT a hathback at all second xr3 is the best version of all escort version . all the best versions in ford are ford fiesta xr2 , ford escort xr3 and ford sierra xr4, i never see an escort fuel injected till now most of them are carburated , thanks
These cars use to give me problems all the time, build quality is very poor
