Why can't Apple just allow a complete MacOS Finder and Disk Management App. rather than the complete MacOS. That would totally solve the issue many of us have with the clunky file management of iPad Pro and also allow for the missing disk management.

I stopped updating my M1 iPad starting from iPadOS 16.2 and waited for a jailbreak or something that would enable me to virtualize windows. It fortunately happened (thanks to the developers of trollstore) and I’m now able to run Windows 11 at “full speed” on my M1 iPad (without even jailbreaking it) and it helped me sooo much doing some little tasks that would require a Windows computer or a Linux machine. That was honestly not the smoothest experience I have ever had due to the lack of RAM but it was really enjoyable and in my case useful. I hope one day Apple will find a way (/compromise) to take full advantage of the M chips in iPads. As of now, iPads are for me really limited powerhouses.

Virtual machine performance was considerable better than using UTM SE, but not as good as UTM that has access to the hypervisor on a jailbroken iPad. The JIT version of UTM was viable on iPad OS 16, because I could compile a utility called Jitterbug with my Apple developer credentials, allowing me to JIT tether my M1 iPad Pro to itself rather than a second Apple device across the LAN. iPad OS 17 broke the way this works, such that JIT tethering now only works if you physically connect (i.e. via cable) your iPad Pro running the UTM JIT version to a JIT server, e.g. Alt Store running on a MacBook. As consequence, I now consider the M series iPad Pro as the most pointless product in Apple's product lineup, as iPad OS cripple it's amazing hardware to a closed ecosystem of mostly mediocre smart phone apps. Apple intentionally locks down iPad OS so that you buy both a mac and an ipad. It's infuriating how they limit what I can do on my tablet simply to drive sales and maintain control of their ecosystem. I have 3 hopes when it comes to apple related things. 1. Mac os on ipad, obviously. 2. The EU and other governments keep forcing them to be more consumer friendly. 3. That Procreate releases on android so I can ditch the iPad for a slightly less limiting tablet os.

In installed Windows 11 on Arm on my M1 iPad pro with 16GB RAM via full UTM (with jailbreak). It's in its original OS version (iPadOS 15), so it has access to Hypervisor and it runs just as fast as on a Mac using Parallels. But UTM is no Parallels and there are several major tradeoffs: You need to stay on iPadOS 15 since Apple removed access to hypervisor in 16. So no stage manager, let alone Apple intelligence. Shared folders don't work, so you need to use a cloud service (no big deal in Windows 11, I use dropbox). No external monitor support, not even for mirroring (not great since I have a 11" iPad). Non retina resolution signal (you can adjust the resolution, scaling and aspect ratio as you want on Windows, but the signal is non retina, so it's like running it on an iPad 2). It's totally usable, but I wouldn't want to use it as a main Windows device... I just wish I could update my iPad to have stage manager etc. For now I'll leave it there since I have a 13" with M1 on 17 that I can update to use all the features. Also jailbreaks don't work on iPadOS 17 and 18 so there are also other benefits...

Major progame like AI (portable, PS (portable), Corel15, Sketchup, metatrader, tc2000, binance, tradingview… you name it running normally. There is many tips and trick and tweak to make it faster, like disable windows telemery, install processlasso…

on M4 it will be too slow because Apple remove access to Hypervisor on iPadOS 16. On a M1 in its original OS version it will run virtually as fast as native (I have it on iPadOS 15.3.1)
All that M4 hardware is wasted as is the price. Buy a cheap tablet (android or ipad whatever so long as it can have fast internet connection WiFi6 or 5G). Then Remote into Desktop or Cloud and run anything you want on the go. Best current solution. Apple overcharges for hardware you cannot tap the full performance of. M4 is a total waste of money as such for more complex stuff you cannot do on iPadOS. Android tablets also worth using if you get good hardware for good price. This UTM SE is just a toy - impressive work-arounds to locked hypervisor but not practical.

The speed of emulation is about the speed of a 1995 computer on an iPhone Xr, so obviously Windows 98 performs just like it did on my grandfather's computer.
God, apple just let us have JIT so us who want to use our pro machines as actual PRO machines
I just want to remote into machines and use iPad as a dumb terminal.
There's such silly basic issues like poor mouse scrolling and no recognition of middle mouse button
I spent hours trying to get Windows XP installed on my iPhone 15 but it took too long and near the end I accidentally closed UTM. On my M1 MacBook Air it took like 10 minutes. I don’t know why Apple doesn’t allow JIT on the App Store. Even with AltStore or SideStore you still need a Mac with you to enable JIT.
Awesome video, this was pretty unique. Seeing Pinball again was like a blast from the past.
The lack of the ability to run whatever I want on my iPad while having a smooth experience is the main reason I rarely use it outside of note-taking. Properly-equipped iPad Pros are the worst $1500 a human can spend.
Fanless M4
A Mac Mini is quite literally the guts of an iPad Pro with I/O & a power supply. I’m not exaggerating either. That’s what makes me bummed that Apple doesn’t allow full MacOS, it absolutely can run it, they just won’t let you.
Great thumbnail!
u can use utm JiT without jailbreak using altstore even on M4 try making a video on that
Apple intentionally locks down iPad OS so that you buy both a mac and an ipad.
I would love windows 7 or even 10 because of gaming but apple dont support much vulkan i think. Else id love to play some steam games from macos or Windows version mobiley . Just interesting
I would love to see an android version of this video!
I’ve gotten dolphinOS onto my iPad through sideloading couldn’t utm provide that version be it through alt store scarlet or other sideloading stores
UTM was originally on Altstore I think
5:42 hey thats me!
lol
Will these methods work on the iPad mini 5?
I am surprised there is no way to run native ARM Linux & Windows on iPads. You can with Parallels on the Mac on ARM.
Use windows arm iso, i have mine from needing to sign up my Microsoft account to the windows insider program, annoying but hope this helps
In installed Windows 11 on Arm on my M1 iPad pro with 16GB RAM via full UTM (with jailbreak). It's in its original OS version (iPadOS 15), so it has access to Hypervisor and it runs just as fast as on a Mac using Parallels. But UTM is no Parallels and there are several major tradeoffs:
You need to stay on iPadOS 15 since Apple removed access to hypervisor in 16.
15.4.1 with UTM.HV running windows 11 here on my ipad pro m1 12.9 here. Shared folder work perfectly here. You need to edit registry to increase maximum webdav protocol file transfer to max 4GB, search google for that. My VM running as fast as it allow. 1080p60 youtube 1.25 work fine, no sound crack. Major progame like AI (portable, PS (portable), Corel15, Sketchup, metatrader, tc2000, binance, tradingview… you name it running normally. There is many tips and trick and tweak to make it faster, like disable windows telemery, install processlasso…
So bummed that Apple still won’t allow JIT.
Can it run Crysis?
iPad Pro would sell like crazy if apple didn’t limit it
Finally iOS has emulators!!!
The REAL reason Apple does not want MacOS on iPad is 💸💸💸💸💸💸💸
MacOS is open allowing users to purchase their apps from anywhere they want and install what they want.
iPadOS is *WALL GARDENED* and users are restricted to a limited single monopoly App store.
If he could use macOS and then use Parallel, I would buy an iPad right away, and the iPad is not as good as my foldable phone right now
If they allow this emulator , then is it possible to get MAC OS on the iPad ?
They did
Thanks Obi-Wan
But can you get this to run steam OS?
Why not windows 10 or 11?
Does it run steam games? If yes, I think I might get one.
Yes it does. Just make sure you get a high spec virtual machine.
you must have done something wrong with the xp one. on my 2014 ipad air 2 xp installation worked first try
Surprised to see the Linux comments… Didn’t think people liked dealing with that GEM of an OS
Why they don’t let us have a mouse cursor… can’t beleive we are still with there in 2024… jailbreak all the way
Ive just used vs code tunnels into my mac from m2 ipad pro and use tailscale for network. But its so annoying we can't run vscode locally with python and sql
Have Apple pulled that app yet? 😂
UTM seems great, but it's painfully slow. I've tried to install Windows or Linux, both x86 and ARM. I was unable to boot Linux to LiveCD or install Windows - it takes too much time. Probably Windows XP is OK because it's old system. Maybe JIT will be allowed at some point.
Windows 11 on ARM is very fast with hypervisor (I have it), but you need to be on iPadOS 15 or early 16, since Apple removed access to hypervisor at some point in 16.
@@_DigitalguyiPad OS 16.3.1 is the last version where Hypervisor was available
@@sentience3033 thanks
@@_Digitalguy No problem
I just hope either they return the hypervisor / Virtualization framework or give us a way to rollback to 16.3.1
@@sentience3033 I highly doubt it knowing Apple, especially now that they were forced to allow sideloading in the EU they want to make sure you cannot run Windows or other OS on your iPad
For file transfer, you can also create ISOs with the files you want and mount them.
Also, for old games, you can play strategy games like Starcraft 1 (haven't tried anything else) through Windows 98 on RetroArch (pure dos core).
I (realistically my parents) was forced to buy an iPad for school and it’s pretty bad value. SMH, it barely even works as a rdp client. I got my iPad 8th gen to work with multiple SBCs but it’s still not ideal
I have 15.4.1 on my m1 iPad Pro and can run the full version of UTM with actual virtualization! I love it and it’s amazing
I am on 15.3.1 on my M1 iPad (with 16GB RAM). Windows 11 works great in terms of speed but if you look at my comment to this videos it has several major issues (namely no external monitor support and low resolution)
@@_Digitalguyfor external
Monitor support
You need IOS 17 which will destroy Your UTM
@@sentience3033 it works with iPadOS 16 already, but in 17 it was improved. But you cannot upgrade to 16 from 15 at this point, it would go directly to 17 so yes, it's either or
UTM was too slow for me, but interesting app
it's slow because Apple removed access to hypervisor, on iPadOS 15 it's very fast
@@_Digitalguy Damm Apple always ruining the fun
I just want JIT to emulate the Nintendo Switch
This is a cool video and all, but i dont see a reason to want to run macos on a tablet when the complete tablet-mac set up cost juat as much as a macbook.
Can u do it with linux
yeah I think
... Why not use shadow tech? Running windows 11 and it's a game changer
AAAAARCH LINUUUUUX
turn it into a macbook
Hello to you.
I was still not able to create any virtual machine on the pad m4.
In the Mac was it simple but on the Pad I have much struggle. Mot installed display, the install stop on a shell prompt, letters which looks like a mixture of Arabic letters and Hieroglyphen, and so on. In the x86 mode I get the not that the system is not compatible. The guest extension is activated, and I have the iso for x86 also arm on the pad. A copy paste transfer of the VM machine on the Mac procure only a black screen.
Can anybody tell my which settings need UTM that win is able to run‘ Ann x86 or / and a arm win 11 or also a older version.
I have the stupid feeling that minimum the processor and display emulations be on my device are not correct.
It should be nice when anybody can discover me the secret.
Thank you very much.
Can I install . Ex e?
if you virtualize Windows, yeah. just sideload the app instead of getting it from the app store because of jit missing
You know what would help your thumbnail? A big red circle somewhere in the middle.
Why not just buy a surface pro ?
Apple fans invented VM
I turned my iPad 9th Gen into ubuntu machine
what's a PC?
Any ipad pro M4 user tried installing Windows 11 yet? is it worth for a try? Thanks
@@berkleywish9295 thanks for the feedback
It is painfully slow, it also demands a lot of resources memory wise. Take several hours to get it installed. It apparently is just using one core, multi core is unstable.
@@JoshuaSmith-hm9ps thanks!
on M4 it will be too slow because Apple remove access to Hypervisor on iPadOS 16. On a M1 in its original OS version it will run virtually as fast as native (I have it on iPadOS 15.3.1)
Apple leave it alone
now use windows to emulate mac
iPC
this thinks are needed especialy to do ethical hacking on your ipad
Just buy a MacBook and be happy guys - trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Let the iPad be an iPad - and buy a PC or Mac if you need one
usefull and waste of time, why you not install win 11? I Tty on iphone 14 pro, but need more RAM
Let's sue apple
All that M4 hardware is wasted as is the price.
Buy a cheap tablet (android or ipad whatever so long as it can have fast internet connection WiFi6 or 5G).
Then Remote into Desktop or Cloud and run anything you want on the go.
Best current solution. Apple overcharges for hardware you cannot tap the full performance of. M4 is a total waste of money as such for more complex stuff you cannot do on iPadOS. Android tablets also worth using if you get good hardware for good price.
This UTM SE is just a toy - impressive work-arounds to locked hypervisor but not practical.
i really just want to run full versions of Microsoft Office, I don't care about games or entertainment stuff, i just want to do my work on an Ipad...
But mobile versions of Microsoft office are dog shit.
That’s something you can do with UTM SE
I personally installed it & office works great
I just hit Don’t Recommend This Channel
Winlator on android 😂😂😂
Apple allowed dual booting once before, and all it meant was no vendor ever ported to Apple. None. That was a mess! This time, harangue your vendors to port, especially with all the new Intel chips melting.
dual boot on Mac has been a things for many years and you have many native apps on Macs nonetheless
iPan PC
Ipad OS is just the worst 😂
way too slow
pointless video. iPad is completely useless with is pumpediOS. Apple doesn't want you to run a real OS on it, and that's it.
and it still sucked because of ipados
yes, because apple doesn’t officially support JIT compiling on iPadOS and iOS. that’s why there UTM SE on the app store, but not the standard UTM.
Umm, PC's have had tablet optins for ever. Now PCs have ARM Snapdragon processors options witch kill Apple M3.. Ohh Yeah, Plus you will be still be able to use real GPUs unlike Apple silicone.. This is tottly pointless!!!
