First of all, thank you for posting these. Each ballerina is so beautiful and talented. I preferred Kaptsova’s version, so quick and light. Her turns are amazing and she’s always smiling. ❤️❤️❤️
@@09onca Kaptsova, both her performance and the choreography. All are good. True, Khoreva has noisy pointe shoes and is less experienced. It would be nice if the "subscribe" box didn't keep popping up.
Nina Kaptsova’s version and the choreography is the best! The choreography fits the music the best and she hit every musical note with delicacy and grace. A Real life Sugar plum fairy 🧚♂️🩰
Difficulty level of Bolshoi version is so much greater than the other versions. I prefer it, and like the Marinskiiy version least. I’ve never seen a better performance than Kapsova’s. She is a treasure.
I felt like they tried to make it so difficult that it doesn’t fit or feel in tune with the music. Sure she’s amazing to watch and I think she’s a beautiful dancer but the choreography doesn’t match the music because of all the stuff they crammed in there to make it difficult
@@allie.hartwell9489 I have always been bemused by the choreography for the Sugar Plum Fairy for this reason; the music always seems to be saying something different from the dancer, no matter if it's Balanchine, Bolshoi, etc. I almost feel like this piece just shouldn't be danced to, or maybe not as a solo, like it feels more appropriate to be something a dancer is reacting to (the scene around her, maybe twinkling within the trees or something), rather than something a dancer is expressing herself.
@@allie.hartwell9489 I don't know much about ballet so I can't speak about the dancers' abilities but in my opinion, Kaptsova's had the best choreography by far. Every move is so in touch with the music it's just a beauty to watch
Kaptsova is the quintessential Masha - her Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is the benchmark. She is delicate, soft, playful, charming and virtuosic. The Grigorovich choreography proves to be the most musically and technically demanding. One wrong move, you get behind the music and the magic is lost. Kaptsova is among the few (the only other could only be Maximova perhaps) that has mastered this variation.
Thanks for this! Kaptsova is clearly the best dancer but my favourite choreography is actually the Mariinsky version. It’s always made the most sense to me musically .
I’m gonna have to go with Iana Salenko as her Sugar Plum dance stands out the most. It’s different from all the rest I’ve seen. I also like that she doesn’t spin in excess at the end, but rather does this graceful movements I loved, especially the hip movements.
Nina Kaptsova's version is quite beautiful, I love how she flitters about with her feat just like how I imagine a fairy would, however, I feel like Maria Khoreva was much more in time with the music and still captured that flittering effect with her feat. Iana Selenko was very graceful and fluid, however, she didn't flitter about quite as well as the other to. I also much preferred the costuming during Maria Khoreva's performance.
The best choreography that just seems so intuitive out of all is the one performed by Nina Kaptsova, and I just love her entrance and that little thing she does with her hands.. To be fair Maria Khoreva’s performance was quite beautiful too.
Нина Капцова само очарование, она лучшая. Музыкальна, элегантна, игрива, словно импровизирует. Этот маленький шедевр повышает настроение, хочется пересматривать вновь и вновь.🌹
Thank you for listing choreographers. Someone on another channel tried to tell us Iana's was as set by Ivanov and...no. A little unfair to include Mariinsky because they leave out nearly half of the music, but Khoreva actually makes what is there look like something---she's just light as a frothy confection (like maybe a sugar plum). Kaptsova is as always brilliant. Bunduballeria included this with Kysanova and Maximova doing the same variation; she and Maximova are small and fast and make the most of the choreography. Salenko is just sublime whatever she's doing. Her control and fluidity in just those opening pas marches is beautiful, and I think I would pay just to see her do barre exercises! Thank you for another interesting Christmas compilation!
Aside from the subject of the beautiful dancing, I like the longer skirt with a slight downward drape on the first dancer. It enhances the movements and doesn't bounce like a board, which the sticking out skirts do.
Yes, I agree! Kaptsova's costume looks especially bad to me, which is a shame because she dances sooo well. I get that they were going for a minimalist look but it ended up looking cheep. The skirt especially is too thin and stiff, looks like a dinner plate. It's awkward instead of elegant.
Russian ballet art is developed and contributed by those ballerinas who have dedicated their lives to ballet, and their names will always be praised by audiences.
I liked Khoreva the most but I'm not a dancer. Have attended performances of the Nutcracker over many years, but wasn't really aware of how many versions there are -- shows how much I know, haha -- my personal fave of these 3 was the one Khoreva danced.
Salenko is my favorite. Beautiful response to the music, precise and lyrical. For this part of Sugar Plum Fairy, I would have preferred a tutu, a lighter costume for the music and the character.
i believe this to be a dance of a fairy and not a dance of technician/athlete; the narrative is master; who is most fairy like is a satisfying question….
Me personally, i love Khoreva’s choreography and interpretation, it really fits the music since it’s very close to how it was originally created. This dance its supposed to be light, delicate and graceful. I don’t really like how they made the other ones really difficult and they feel like they aren’t meant to be danced with that song. It really shows how more isn’t always better.
Maira Khoreva is the most balanced in all aspects, and very much sugar plum fairy!!! she conveys the concept the most - it is not only about techniques or turning fast only, in my humble opinion
Salenko feels like a clockwork doll or a toy in a music box. Kaptsova feels like a snowflake drifting down, caught up by the wind. Khoreva feels like how a little girl dancing sees herself as she twirls in her room.
I started to say Salenko, but while she and Khoreva were good, Kaptsova was best. Of course I cant really judge because centuries ago, I was dancing Sugar Plum Fairy and my darn toe shoe ribbon came undone, so who am I to judge!!!!
All three are beautiful ballerinas, and danced well, but for me it’s the choreography as much as anything. I found the third one to be ‘flat’, the end ‘twirl’ missing completely. The first one was better, but again the ending was tame compared to the middle one where she twirled her war around the stage at the end, so fast, yet so much in control.
this is just My opinion of the three in this video my Favorite choreography and execution: Salenko Favorite costume: Khoreva actress/facial expressions: Kaptsova
Can someone tell me what that step is when Kaptsova is doing the menege at the and they're NOT pique turns or chainees? it's something else I wanna know lol can you do them on flat..?
I'd say it's kinda unfair to compare the three ladies because of the vastly different choreography. I personally do not think Khoreva is on the same level as the other two (haha Khoreva fans don't hate on me pls) - ugh, her bourree is so loud! I can hear her shoes hitting the floor!
Yep, it's more a comparison between choreographies than between the three interpreters, even if all of them do it in their own personal beautiful style and technique. Khoreva is younger, you're right 🙈 we wish her all the best, we hope no one will hate on you because of your comment, that would make no sense. We will defend you from the haters in that case 😛 thanks for your feedback ❤️
You can see Khoreva rushing a bit to be on the music, it is less rehearsed and more mechanical. Shows her relative lack of experience compared to the others. She will grow into the role with time.
@@clarissaleung4509 I agree! She’s a lovely sugar plum but compared to the others she’s more, frantic/young? The others have a much more strong presence, now in with Khoreva today, this has really improved c:

As for the choreography, my favorite is the royal ballet’s version by Peter Wright. But among these three amazing dancers, my favorite is Iana- she’s sweet, graceful, delicate and has so good control of her body!
I performed the Bolshoi choreo several years ago when I was still dancing full time, and it is most certainly the most difficult Sugar Plum variation! The Italian fouette combo in the middle, followed by a pirouette section, and then finishing with such fast pique turns make it brutal. It is beautiful, however, and although I did not dance it near as well as Kaptsova, I am proud of myself for being able to perform the Bolshoi choreo and make it look decent. I was only 16 at the time. Sometimes I rewatch my company's Nutcracker on DVD and think "Wow, how in the world did I manage to make it through that?" LOL. I miss my ballet days sometimes.
Мне больше понравилась Саленко. Но сравнение некорректно - тут разные постановки, Капцовп танцует версию Григоровича в Большом театре, а две других - версию Вайнонена в Мариинском.
