Dave- if U move tensioner to inside of the key against the center post (so full ramp on outside end of key) U could add a row of pins blocking the tensioner hole? Might have to ramp the tensioner
Think about how much design went into this lock, then add the ability to execute the construction in such a precise manner. This piece of work goes way beyond what most of us would consider locksport. Congrats to Dave for creating this, and for Bill to be able to explain it to all of us.
We imported those SB locks back in the 90’s. It was not easily picked but impressioned easily. The quality of those lock were just ok. Dave’s lock nice. The draw back to that lock design was master pinning. It only had 3 depths. Another nice video.
That's got to be the most beautiful lock I've seen. Craftsmanship is just above the rest. If I came across that in the field I would find a new career. Great job on it, awesome video Bill.
That's so beatiful! I wonder if @LockpickingLawyer would be able to have any luck? Your skill is incredible, so I don't see him having much better luck... but still, would be interesting to see!
@@Malidictus He has before, but it was a single video or maybe two videos where he covered locks he had the most difficulty with, as well as some he never succeeded in picking.
I love the way those in the lock picking community interact with each other and encourage new pickers with tips and tricks. It’s been a useful skill for me to have but I haven’t used it much. I’m glad I learned it and I’m always looking to improve
Here's a plus up for Dave! Dang dude, that's one heck of a lock. Get that design to fit a kwikset housing and you probably could make millions. After all, who wouldn't want a unpickable lock for their household. Cheers!
The reason locks are so bad is because customers are happy to pay less for a lock that isn't as secure. We don't live inside bank vaults. So, unless Dave could make a production line that makes these locks to these high tolerances at the same price point as worse locks. He's not going to make a penny unfortunately.
@@RealCadde Yeah, the problem isn't that they're not capable of making good locks, the problem is that they aren't pressured by consumers to make good locks.
Came here after @lockpickinglawyer last vid . I wanted to tell you how i have been impressed by your skills, and the good feelings you share on your videos. Enjoy your retirement, and i wish you a long life to live happily. too many thanks to tell them in one comment. Greetings from France.
Yes , i enjoyed the time and effort that both of you put into that lock . Dave in making it , and you showing it . Thanks . It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a lock that impressed me . And thanks for another great video .
That's funny...and probably intentional. Yesterday, I commented on the Trimax that if it tensioned from the back it would be much harder to pick. Today, that exact design is presented, only with much better tolerances and security pins. Kudos.
Bill and Dave- Now that is a lock. Bill I have been watching your channel for years now. I have yet to see a lock that you cannot pick open. With all due respect, I think you just met your nemesis in the lock world. Dave, excellent job! I would replace the combination lock on my gun safe with that lock design alone! Darn fine work!
This episode was great. Not only because of its beautiful composition but that you exlained and laid it out so well too. As always Bill, you present greay content and leave me waiting for more!👍🏼
Much more impressive than the "stuff made here" "unpickable lock". Not saying this is an unpickable lock. But what beautiful craftsmanship, the maker is an expert of his craft!
Hi, Bill. A great lock. It is fun to see you use your experience to try and defeat a lock. Get those creative juices flowing. Maybe you can impression that bad boy. Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
The lock looks gorgeous and I really admire the craftsmanship! I don't nearly have the skills or equipment to even try picking it but I still think that the design has some room for improvement. I suspect that the weakness in this design is the central post that is made of brass and can be forcibly removed, allowing the pins to drop inside the keyway. Central post should be manufactured from hardened steel, so it can't be grabbed by a tool or bent until it breaks. Also, the way, how the post is attached, must be carefully designed - maybe nail-shaped design works, so the post can be bent but not forced out. Good luck Dave, designing unconquerable lock that is also a piece of art!
Oh my bloody word 😲. Unbelievably beautiful work by Dave...again! As someone with a machining background AND loves locksport, this gives me a two stage chubby 😀👍👏
Next version: tensioning hole shallow perfectly round with boron hardened sleeve to make it harder to use a cutting tool to tension by biting into it--and positioned directly behind the pins.
That is an absolute masterpiece... Seriously Dave, if you haven't, shop your design around to the better lock conglomerates (Assa group, etc).... Even with slightly decreased tolerances inherent to mass production, this would still be an incredibly secure lock.
Those Gerda locks are very popular in Poland, I have it on my door and only after few videos like this one I've learnt how good they are. They are quite cheap and the key works like very loud whistle so good for mountain hikes too! 😉 Also, they can be turned 2 times from outside but only once from inside so while you lock your house from outside, the burglar who enters through a window won't be able to leave through a door (as a "moving company employeer" for example). I had to wait in the window waiting for a neighbour to ask them to open me from outside when someone forgot and locked me inside with two rotations ;)
Thanks again Bill for giving my new lock a try. Great video. I guess we are even now. I'll have to come up with something new for a tie breaker.
Dave, do you perhaps have a video on the making of your lock?
Dave- if U move tensioner to inside of the key against the center post (so full ramp on outside end of key) U could add a row of pins blocking the tensioner hole? Might have to ramp the tensioner

Good job Bill didn't sneeze when he gutted it, otherwise it would never go back together properly

If you want to get the light in the back of a lock, use a thin fiber optic, like from those decorative flower lights.
