This is the episode where the series really grabbed me.
First, the maturity of the metaphor of mental and/or chronic illness, second, my childhood fantasy and dream was to learn 'real magic,' much like Luz. And... there she goes!!

I completely agree i loved the deep metaphor with the curse. And I was so happy when Liz learned magic it was great

I did a laughing spit take when that lil cute monkey guy cried "Oh no! A twist!". That was too cute and funny.

That gem on Eda is an indicator of when the curse is about to take affect

13:30 - My mom has diabetes, she had it all her adult life, she had to go through so many different medications, this episode really reminded me of her, and I love that there's a metaphor like this in a show for younger audiences, because it's important to represent.

I like how the owl beast acts more like an animal and not a monster

If you look closely at King's board there is a small post-it note of Bill Cipher.

What I love with the curse=chronic illness metaphor is how Eda is still very much a badass.
What’s even funnier about King’s line that Hooty’s voice is annoying is that they have the same voice actor. 😂
As for who cursed Eda and why… Guess you’ll just have to watch to see if that gets answered! 😉

    • @LexisThoughts

I can’t wait to find out. Also I did not know that king and booth was the same voice actor that’s insane to me. Eda will always be badass to me

      @METerrell Рік тому +3

@@LexisThoughts Yeah, Alex Hirsch did the voice as a joke because they needed a place holder for Hooty until someone was cast. But the show's creator, Dana Terrace loved it and said that's Hooty. He says it's his attempt at doing the Mickey Mouse voice.

Eda knows who Luz, King, and Hooty is but the owl beast doesn’t so for all it knows they are the intruders and the snagleback was eaten because well the owl beast was hungry that’s just nature an nature is cruel

It's funny that you noticed that the opening theme is similar to Gravity Falls opening, since Dana Terrace also did work on some episodes of Gravity Falls, and also was at least previously engaged to it's creator.
They do have some things in common, more than I can say due to spoilers.
But The Owl House is fantastic, even the early episodes are good. And I believe it was said in an interview that due to executive meddling that the show didn't hit it's intended tone till about episode 15 of Season 1. And, that the original pitch was much darker, more of a PG rated young adult show. Disney being Disney obviously caused it to be heavily toned down, but you can still see a lot of the darker and more mature elements slowly emerge in this season, especially the last few episodes.
S2 also is closer to the original pitch in intended tone and so on, and absolutely blows season 1 out in terms of, well everything. Not that S1 is bad, it's phenomenal, just that S2 is that much better.
Also, I'm at least willing to state my opinion that this show is absolutely better, to me, than Gravity Falls. Not because Gravity Falls is bad, it's amazing and paved the way, but I just hold TOH in such high regard.

Wow thanks for telling me all of that. I love long comments like this about the things I watch, I end up learning so much thanks to the commenters. So thank you for taking your time to comment. Also now I’m excited for episode 15 to see what the tone is.

It's fantastic. Granted S1 has a lot of great episodes before it, but it's when the tone really gets set and becomes more consistent. Episodes 7, 9, 10 & 12 are amazing.
For me, when I first started watching it was bootleg on UA-cam and on a whim. I watch some RWBY UA-camrs and repeatedly heard them mention TOH. At first I was like, "what's this goofy looking kids show?". Finally gave it a shot and while I wasn't immediately enthralled, I was following intently. Episode 4 was excellent, and 5 started really subverting some tropes in a very entertaining way.
Episode 7 was what got me hooked, and I was ride or die for the show. Especially with further subversive of the bully trope. 9 and 10 are also good, but 12 really set in my mind that this show was absolutely something special and one of a kind. An honorable mention to episode 13 for what it sets up in terms of further plot points. Very specific spoiler ridden plot points.
The best episodes IMO of the season were 15, 16, 18, 19 (S1 finale.), 12 and 17. You might really love 17.

lol i guess i don't need to mention the elixirs being a euphemism for medication for a chronic illness, given all these comments :> but yea Eda is *definitely my favorite character tho- my 2nd favorite appears in season 2 🥰 also you're one of my favorite reactors now
