Hi all! New interesting video on the channel "TM ZHENATAN Woodworking"... How to make a birch barrel with your own hands... Making a whiskey barrel from a birch log at home... Friends! I wish you good health and peaceful skies above your head. Like and subscribe to our channel! Enjoy watching!
I'm a retired cabinetmaker in Canada, and what amazes me the most is how tiny the shop is. Here we're used to having a few hundred square meters, and sometimes well over 1000 m2
Nice! The birch that grows by me, by the time they get that diameter they usually have serious ring shake. Much bigger and heart is often rotted away completely. Nice that you can get sound wood from that species.
then the forest has not been managed correctly. Or it grows on the wrong soil. good soil, far between the trees and 2/3 of the length should be green crown, then it can be 30-50cm diameter in 35 years.
A multi purpose workshop, besides woodworking tools and floor space, there is an open workspace to drain engine oil. Maybe next season cut some staves long enough to bridge across the hole!
Guessing this is for aquavit of some type, as Scotch whisky is left to mature in oak barrels, not birch. Nice work all the same, he'd get a job in Craigellachie or Dufftown, I'm sure. 👍🏻
Thank you very much!!! I make barrels from different types of wood. I like to experiment with aging my drinks in barrels made from different types of wood... Each wood gives the drinks its own unique aroma and taste...

Hey, you went back to the old-school stave bender! Keep up the great work... I am now inspired to try some birch wood to age my spirits.
Thank you very much!!!

I live in Ukraine. Making wooden barrels is my hobby... I make barrels in my small garage for a car...
This appears to be a one man show so he doesn't need much space. Your place probably employs many people. Big difference.
Do you air dry that wood or use it green ?.
I've an 8ft by 10ft workshop and I produce anything and everything......its functionality and quality over space and machines
@leprechaun7667 Sounds like a great setup.
Its Beautiful, I Love It! Perfect Woodworking Skills. Excellent Craftsmanship.

Excellent workmanship & craftsmanship .. Beautiful Barrels
Thank you very much!!!
I imagine that there's a standard pattern used to create the right shape staves. I didn't notice one as I skimmed through the video.

A pleasure to watch as always, thanks

The working space for draining engine oil is already closed...
@@tmzhenatanwoodworking7252 Glad to hear!
That is good firewood.
Such firewood can be used to make an excellent barrel for wine or whiskey...

Thank you very much!!!
The finished barrel is beautifully made.
Does the fire and water make bending the wood easier, or is it to permanently set the curve?
Thank you very much!!! With the help of fire, I bend the barrel staves... And by combining fire with water, I fix the barrel staves in a bent state...
@@tmzhenatanwoodworking7252 thank you for answering my question
Faltou a torneira!!! Criciuma SC Brasil
Extremely nice work! Great video! Do you use birch wood for a lot of your barrels?
Thank you very much!!! I make barrels from different types of wood. I like to experiment with aging my drinks in barrels made from different types of wood... Each wood gives the drinks its own unique aroma and taste...
Kudos!!!..................Z
🎉🎉
So question…when you make the final hole for the cork…what happens to the bit of wood you drill through that falls into the barrel?
I use a core bit which actually leaves no sawdust and the cut piece of wood stays inside the bit...
@ many thanks for the answer. I have learnt something new 🙏

👍👍👍
What does one of these fine birch barrels sell for?
Such a barrel in Ukraine costs 100 dollars.
How long do you let the wood age be for you use it? Different woods need longer time I’m sure.
Blanks for making wooden barrels dry in the open air for 6-18 months...

Now what if you made Whiskey with Birch water And let it soak in a birch barrel ..I wonder how it would taste
Might be worth a try...
DIY? I would still be trying to split the first log and he would have 10 barrels done.
I'm a self-taught cooper and started making my first barrel in January 2019... It's not easy, but it's quite doable...
Why don't you drill holes before assembly? That way you wouldn't get sawdust in the barrel.
To drill holes, I use a hole saw, which leaves almost no sawdust...
Where's the spigot?..................Z
Whisky MUST be made in oak barrels. So that was a waste of time!
I have barrels made from oak, ash, maple, acacia, mulberry, birch, cherry, apple, pear, apricot... Each wood gives whiskey its own unique aroma and taste, which is sometimes much better than the aroma and taste from an oak barrel. ..
You don’t know very much about whiskey
Good whiskey barrels are made from white oak, thats charred on the inside for a reason.
