    Hey, you went back to the old-school stave bender! Keep up the great work... I am now inspired to try some birch wood to age my spirits.

    I'm a retired cabinetmaker in Canada, and what amazes me the most is how tiny the shop is. Here we're used to having a few hundred square meters, and sometimes well over 1000 m2

      I live in Ukraine. Making wooden barrels is my hobby... I make barrels in my small garage for a car...

      This appears to be a one man show so he doesn't need much space. Your place probably employs many people. Big difference.

    I imagine that there's a standard pattern used to create the right shape staves. I didn't notice one as I skimmed through the video.
    Great work!

    Nice! The birch that grows by me, by the time they get that diameter they usually have serious ring shake. Much bigger and heart is often rotted away completely. Nice that you can get sound wood from that species.

      then the forest has not been managed correctly. Or it grows on the wrong soil. good soil, far between the trees and 2/3 of the length should be green crown, then it can be 30-50cm diameter in 35 years.

    A multi purpose workshop, besides woodworking tools and floor space, there is an open workspace to drain engine oil. Maybe next season cut some staves long enough to bridge across the hole!

    Guessing this is for aquavit of some type, as Scotch whisky is left to mature in oak barrels, not birch. Nice work all the same, he'd get a job in Craigellachie or Dufftown, I'm sure. 👍🏻

    The finished barrel is beautifully made.
    Does the fire and water make bending the wood easier, or is it to permanently set the curve?

    • @tmzhenatanwoodworking7252
      @tmzhenatanwoodworking7252  20 днів тому +1

      Thank you very much!!! With the help of fire, I bend the barrel staves... And by combining fire with water, I fix the barrel staves in a bent state...

    So question…when you make the final hole for the cork…what happens to the bit of wood you drill through that falls into the barrel?

    • @tmzhenatanwoodworking7252
      @tmzhenatanwoodworking7252  26 днів тому

      I use a core bit which actually leaves no sawdust and the cut piece of wood stays inside the bit...

      Ich habe Fässer aus Eiche, Esche, Ahorn, Akazie, Maulbeere, Birke, Kirsche, Apfel, Birne, Aprikose ... Jedes Holz verleiht Whisky sein eigenes, einzigartiges Aroma und Geschmack, der manchmal viel besser ist als Getränke, die in einem Fass gereift wurden Eichenfass ...

    How long do you let the wood age be for you use it? Different woods need longer time I’m sure.

    Why don't you drill holes before assembly? That way you wouldn't get sawdust in the barrel.

      I have barrels made from oak, ash, maple, acacia, mulberry, birch, cherry, apple, pear, apricot... Each wood gives whiskey its own unique aroma and taste, which is sometimes much better than the aroma and taste from an oak barrel. ..
