The one thing I noticed about each sing movies is that they always have one character from the group other than Buster moon who goes through the most character development and make their performance the stand out performance. Like in the predecessor it was Meena getting over shyness, and now with this film it’s Ash trying to get clay Calloway to perform. I hope in the third film, Johnny get his chance to shine more.
In all fairness every character got their time to time. Maybe some more than others but I love his Johnny got a new cat dance instructor and especially near the end when he calls his dad for bodyguard protection. So clever it think!

I wish Illumination can just, at least once, change their character design and story formulas and give us a good movie for once, aside from Despicable Me because at the pace they're going, they're basically Diet DreamWorks at this point with no chance of becoming a reputable studio
The founder and head of Illumination(and now head of DreamWorks Animation) doesn't believe that. He's said in the past that they keep costs low(and thus not try hard) that way they'll maximize profits. I mean it's worked. Toss a blah script out, make the images really colorful and don't try to hard on the designs. Just make them look like toys so they're marketable.

I personally have to disagree with some points you have. The biggest criticism I can say about Sing 2 is how it could've benefit from an extra 30-45 minutes to flesh out some storylines: Crystal putting Porsha down, Clay and Rosetta's backgrounds and so on. They could've also mixed some scenes a little more as *some* solutions felt like they pop up immediately. However, overall, this was a great sequel to what I felt was an amazing movie. So much so that I saw it twice the same night. Yes, I can appreciate movies with more substance, but this had a lot of heart in it (I feel) and I loved it. For me, it's an 8.5/10: a fun, interesting story of different persons from different walks of life struggling with different problems and overcoming them to share their talents with the world. A dream a music lover like me can really take to heart
You do realise this movie is already 110 minutes long, don’t you? An extra 30 to 45 minutes would make it far too long for the kids. I can only just sit through a more than 2 hour film in one go. Any longer than 135 minutes and I can’t watch it in the cinema.
I'm not even a music lover and I enjoyed this film a lot! My mum isn't a music lover, AND didn't even see the first film, yet enjoyed this a lot! I had two customers, who were together, come to my till at a fashion store, tell me they went to see it so they could laugh at how bad/mediocre it is, since they thought the first sing was pretty bad, and THEY ENJOYED IT A LOT! Kinda says something, don'tcha think?

7:33 In my opinion the use of anthropomorphic animals was a good idea because it clearly differentiates characters with various shapes. It's how cartoon characters are so recognizable. If you look at a silhouette of Spongebob, 95% of the people would easily recognize just his shadow or contour, and the same could not be said if the entire sing cast were humans. Tall and small, you could tell apart from each character, and so the use of animals was a really good way not to give the movie an identity, but the cast. I think I agree with some criticisms from you but I feel some things aren't on the spot. But hey I'm just a random person on the internet so what do I know?
I think it’s annoying when people demand a reason for characters to be animals or whatever. I just think of it as a creative decision. That’s all. Doesn’t make the movie bad. And like you said, it does make the film and the characters more recognizable/unique.
I'm so glad others said it because, yes, animals vs humans does make a difference! Ignoring tiny visual gags, try imagining three otherwise ordinary buff guys taking down a whole group of average or higher buff guys, or a man shouting at a teenager because he doesn't want to perform, and I know I said I wouldn't focus on the gags, but I must point out that with this being aimed at kids, if the characters were all human, I can guarantee the naked joke would not have gone over quite so well...

I liked this movie, and disagree that i was too crowded. But maybe developing this into tv show could work better? Characters are super likable and I'm sure this could work, even if the cast would have to be replace, due to cost. And man, if that movie wasn't enjoyable to watch. The visuals alone were so nicely done.
I'm not gonna lie, I actually thought that this film would have a high rating, but I realize a few things: Not all sequels would have higher standards, and It's not always a good idea to have your anticipation higher (Which I did with Space Jam: A New Legacy, and that turn out to be rather unfortunate in the end). Still though, this movie really does have some impressive Animation, Color effects, and Gorgeous choreography scenes, so in the end I'm okay with it.✌🙏
AniMat did have high expectations and got disappointed but I got high expectations but I was just surprised how much I enjoyed this movie even tho they gave away a lot it still became their best movie to date.
I suppose so, and also a great way to end the year 2021 on this review, and not a moment to soon. Kudos for Illumination Entertainment for making these fine beauty, and even if this is a neutral rating, it's very comforting that a lot of people find it enjoyable.
After catching an early screening of cinemas’ Christmas present back in November and taking my family to the official release on that holiday, I’m absolutely not going to lie that Sing 2 is, hands down, not only Illumination’s best sequel after Despicable Me 2, but my personal favorite from the company. It’s between an 8/10 and an 8.5/10 as it is behind Disney’s Encanto, which I gave that animated film a 9/10, but I’m pleased to see how Illumination has come a long way after more than a decade! Looking forward to the company’s next two surprises of 2022!
Sing 2 is an amazing sequel to a hopefully perfect trilogy. This movie has a wonderful mixture of spectacular storytelling, well balanced and dynamic character development, and well paced plot progression. There was never a moment that I was sitting in the theater where I was bored or thought the film was becoming stale. Every moment of this wonderful film was full of dazzling animation, funny and humorous characters, and a tale that can be enjoyed in multiple viewings. The sequel to the sing franchise really took the bare bones of the first film and built heavily upon that foundation. Each character is given much more story emphasis, without feeling as if one is more important than the other. The whole movie was meticulously scripted so that all of the cast was given just enough screen time to allow the viewers to gain an appreciation for what the character brings to the production, without stating a clear protagonist, and with a cast as full as sing 2, that is impressive. Speaking more on the cast, it was wonderful to see favorites like Rosita, Johnny, and Ash return to the ivory screens as well as new faces being added to the troop. New characters like Porsha and Clay Calloway were wonderful additions to the full cast of characters, and even with the already full roster, these characters didn't feel as if they were pushing the others out of the spotlight. To have a massive amount of characters like Sing 2 has, and to not have it feel crowded or competitive, is an impressive cinematic achievement to say the very least. Sing 2 is a perfect sequel to its predecessor, bigger stages, larger stakes, and vaster unknowns for our characters to explore. I love this franchise, and I do sincerely hope that it gets one last movie to round out a perfect trilogy. This does bring up one of my worries with this franchise though, where they will go from here. In the first film we see Buster Moon and his rag tag group of talented performers tackle the criticism and challenges of a small town theatrical performance. In the second movie we see them move to a much larger production in Red Shore City, with thousands to millions more watching, my question is where do we go from here. The way I see it, the last film should take place on the global stage, a massive production taking the talents of the world, one from each country and putting them head to head in one last talent show, on last performance to take it all. After all, as Mr. Moon would say, there's only one way left to go, Up. Sing 2 is a fantastic movie full of fun, in-depth, and dynamic characters, stunning visuals and sound design, and creative, imaginative, and illuminating storytelling. 5/5 would recommend to anyone looking for a great film to watch for the new year!
Another animation critic/historian on youtube said, in effect, "I don't know about this one; seems like it'll have a derivative plot..." To which I said "Sometimes, it's not the story you tell but how you tell it which sells the movie." And a work colleague told me she loved it, as did most of the audience the day she saw it. Hoping to get the chance to see it soon.
Agreed. Illumination needs to stop using the Minions in the their logo. It's so annoying. I also think they should start making more down-to-earth films.

Where the hell did Eddie go? I can buy Mike not showing up since the bears probably killed him, but Eddie was Buster's best friend in the first movie, you'd think he'd have a prominent role in this one too but they don't even acknowledge him, Nana showed up so why didn't he?

The other contestants didn’t even notice him getting captured by the bears. Oh, you’re still listening to those fan theories that the bears killed him? 😒
Quick question: would you recommend this to someone like me who has never seen the 1st movie, because let me be honest the 1st film never really looked that much interesting to me. But this looks way more interesting and the new characters look very appealing especially the wolves.
No, because the characters are mostly established in the 1st movie and here they are introduced in a way where they expect you to already be familiar with them. I mean you can, but you'd be missing out on some context when it comes to the characters.
Back when I first watched Sing in 2016 (in which I had a double feature with la la Land), I thought it was a decent film. I like the different character story focus and it felt like the actors were actually putting in effort into it.
To my personal opinion, I would say Sing 2 is a step up to the first. While the story that I agree is a predictable cookie cutter of the first. It does help the movie with the execution with some elements that I felt like Illumination took a step further. I even love how the animation turned. I even enjoyed a lot of the characters, but not all of them. Even though this isn’t a masterpiece. I have high hopes the Mario Movie could be Illumination’s first Masterpiece
I'd rate this movie the same as the 1st. I see it as no better, but also no worse. It does lack the heart of the 1st, but makes up for it by having more spectacle. It was really entertaining and sometimes I like animated films that might be basic, but still fun. I'd give it a 8/10.

I don't give two s**ts about this movie, but the fact that AniMat drove like an hour and a half outta his way in the middle of a pandemic to give us this video before the year ended speaks volumes about how much he cares about his audience.
Regardless of what you think of this sequel or just Illumination movies in general, at least they did try and experiment with using a heavy tone in this film

If they ever make a sing 3,I would like to see one or two characters get a little bit more of a character development along buster moon,for example in the first one,meena had more development becuase of her story about being shy,which made her stand out than any of the characters in the first movie,and the second one,it was ash trying to convince Calloway to perform,and for the third movie,maybe either Johnny or Gunther can have a more prominent role like ash and meena from the past films.

Yes I agree the story was safe and standard, but I still enjoyed it! I love the animation style, as well as the overall world building. Plus they get bonus points for including one of my favourite songs of all time (could have been me) It's a simple, but fun movie, and if anything, this is the movie that introduced a new generation to the brilliance that is U2

I got to admit they up the ante for the sequel with returning most of the voice actors sadly no Seth MacFarlane this time but with the new characters they added especially Bono himself which I do not know a lot of his songs only from his cameos from The Simpsons and I do believe that the breakout star is Portia play by Hallsey and Gunter the pig Voice by the amazing Nick Kroll
Sing as a whole is pretty alright as kids films go. They are as pop culture as you can get with a kids film, and the story ain't 100%, but actual effort was put in, effort I haven't seen since the first Despicable Me. Hell the cover of "I'm still standing" is a bop. Sing 2 is just a weeeee bit short on that

Well I did enjoy the first film in which it was supposed to even an old theater by performing basically karaoke covers of many different famous songs and I suppose you like the character of the mouse played by the amazing Seth MacFarlane and the unforeseen heroine that is actually voiced by Scarlett Johansson plus I've always had a soft spot for the stage and theater I've always loved to sing as a child and its nature and even now and the sequel ramp it up tenfold and I got to admit I do love Portia even when she was acting a bratty got to get close to her voice actor and singing Ms.Halsey
I preferred the songs in Sing 2, which, if you can't get good songs in a movie ABOUT singing, then you've already gone down in points. I like Halsey's singing, such as This Girl is On Fire and Could Have Been Me. But, I also like that this film is a bit darker. It had the word 'heck' in a couple lines, had Johnny's dad, AKA thugs, beat up security, had Jimmy be verbally and emotionally abusive to Porsha, and also had Jimmy attempt to kill Buster, twice.
I think it's just because the movie came out in the year 2016 with a lot of talking animal movies like Zootopia The Secret Life of pets and Kung Fu Panda 3 just my personal idea
Though unlike the Pets or Sing movies, Kung Fu Panda and especially Zootopia are far greater movies in terms of story, character, themes and world building. And let's not forget another talking animal flick from 2016, Finding Dory, another great example.

Speaking of which, if you compare Zootopia to Sing 1 and 2, you can see Disney really did there homework when it comes to making a movie populated by anthropomorphized animals worth watching. From the architecture of the city, to the vehicles they drive, to even the social commentary on racism, everything plays a part in Zootopia's universe. All the Sing movies did was take talking animals and plopped them in ordinary generic locations that are eerily similar to what we see every day in the real world without putting a unique twist to it. It comes off as Ok at best while Zootopia goes above and beyond the concept, making you believe that their world is specifically made for animals, by animals. It may be a slight nitpick on my part but there's no denying that Zootopia succeeded where Sing sorta failed.

What made me really appreciate it was the overall environment, especially since I went to a special presentation where some of the film's staff discussed how they crafted its world. Just hearing them elaborate on all those details of the city while presenting several movie clips felt inspiring.
These are my ratings: The story: 10/10 The story of this movie is so deep and it has higher stakes than the first movie. It has a more serious and darker tone which I really like. I also think the story is very original where it’s only flaw is the marketing which is just a bit nit picky. The animation: 10/10 The animation in this movie looks even better than the first movie. Sure it could’ve been about humans but who knows maybe Illumination could someday remake the Sing movies and replace the animals with humans. But besides that I don’t mind them being animals per say. The characters: 10/10 A lot of characters stay the same as before and there’s also new characters. Starting with the new characters. My favorite character Porsha I get that she’s the daughter of the villain but she’s honestly more nicer which makes her likeable. Then we got Nooshy the cat that teaches Johnny how to dance and at last Clay Calloway which is what gives this movie more heart than the first movie. The songs: 10/10 I know most of those aren’t original but I haven’t heard of some of the songs so I really liked them overall. The movie: 10/10 my favorite movie of this year
When watching this movie, I am yet again surprised why many people seem to have such a bad opinion of Illumination. I thought the designs and animations looked quite fantastic in this one. The various show acts, the big Las Vegas inspired city and some of the surprisingly fun appearances of old and new characters personally do all convince me that they are able to do a bunch of things very right.

i personally liked this movie slightly more than the first(maybe bc its better quality wise, aka its newer) and i love how its a bunch of different stories since we get to see each character have a bunch of development so it doesnt feel like the singers are just sidecharacters but instead all of them have their own stories and importance, and it doesnt focus on one main character
Excellent review! Yes, the plot and characters are really nothing special but the animation was so beautiful and the play was quite an spectacle to watch, I think this is a good movie, not great but not bad either.
The one thing that has been bothering me is Calloways singing voice ,like, it doesn’t fit him at all (and I think he was a bit too easy to convince tbh)
I would argue that having multiple characters having their time to shine isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I think that its a great thing to have different characters having their time in the spotlight! But something I do agree with you on is that I wish that some of the character arcs in this movie were expanded on more and given more time to develop. I wish they had spent more time on the getting Clay Calloway back to music arc. I feel like they resolved that too quickly without going into much depth on Ash convincing Clay Calloway to rejoin music making. I wish we had spent more time with them like having an in-depth emotional talk on why he shouldn't give up on music. Similarly, I wish they had done more character development on Porsha when she realized that she had overreacted when she thought that Moon fired her (and almost got him killed unintentionally because of this). I feel like her realization came out of nowhere and we should have had a moment where she realized her mistake in a way that didn't come out of nowhere. And on that topic, I wish that we got to see more with her standing up to her father. I know this probably would have made the film longer and they are trying to keep this under 100 minutes but I still think it would have added more character development and made things more interesting.
From here, I don’t think they need a third movie. I would think that a fun little series of mini-musicals or some fleshed-out version of their space musical would work. The space musical in the movie was not exactly the best if you made the space musical its own movie, mainly because there simply wasn’t enough time. If they integrate rosita into more of the musical numbers, add more songs, and write the characters with their own motives, then they could pull off a half-hour special of just them on a stage, in character, and acting out the space musical.

Great musical performance but the story is still bland and is not my cup of tea. Koati made a 'better' performance by introducing obscure animals, Sing 2 has it too like alpaca but still. Third time a December animation movie bored me, Seal team looks promising. Sing movie is still has great potential but sadly it was wasted

Are you sure the celebrity that voiced Johnny is the same one from the first movie? Because I swear, it feels like Johnny in the second movie sounded more nasally and different compared to his first appearance.
To answer your question--would the movie be different if they were humans? Yes, because Johnny's dad would have never escaped prison if he were a human. Also, I love the review and the voice.
What I got from this movie is that its okay to lie your way, step on peoples boundaries and use other people’s resources as long as your doing it for your dream. Buster Moon was super selfish in this movie that I cant really root for him. Crystal’s actions was understandable albeit too harsh when he tried to kill him. He was also very pushy with the Clay for his own benefit. The other characters were the redeeming factor of this movie alongside the animation. But Buster Moon really left a sour taste in my mouth with his actions on this sequel.
Great video analysis of Sing 2. Sorry you didn’t have a great time with the movie but at least, I had a great time with the movie and possibly one of my favorite animated movies in the 2021 in my opinion alongside Dinosaur Train Adventure Island and The Paw Patrol Movie and my favorite movies in the year 2021 alongside Godzilla vs Kong and Spider-Man No Way Home in my opinion. Can’t wait to rewatch the movie all over again to see how amazing it is in my opinion.

Hands down, this was a better movie than Sing 1, even though I do wish that there was more development on Clay Calloway's story. Nevertheless, the bop behind the music and the excellent secondary character development was just TOP-NOTCH. #Sing2WasSurprisinglyGood

I wish Illumination can just, at least once, change their character design and story formulas and give us a good movie for once, aside from Despicable Me because at the pace they're going, they're basically Diet DreamWorks at this point with no chance of becoming a reputable studio

The founder and head of Illumination(and now head of DreamWorks Animation) doesn't believe that. He's said in the past that they keep costs low(and thus not try hard) that way they'll maximize profits. I mean it's worked. Toss a blah script out, make the images really colorful and don't try to hard on the designs. Just make them look like toys so they're marketable.

I personally have to disagree with some points you have. The biggest criticism I can say about Sing 2 is how it could've benefit from an extra 30-45 minutes to flesh out some storylines: Crystal putting Porsha down, Clay and Rosetta's backgrounds and so on. They could've also mixed some scenes a little more as *some* solutions felt like they pop up immediately. However, overall, this was a great sequel to what I felt was an amazing movie. So much so that I saw it twice the same night. Yes, I can appreciate movies with more substance, but this had a lot of heart in it (I feel) and I loved it. For me, it's an 8.5/10: a fun, interesting story of different persons from different walks of life struggling with different problems and overcoming them to share their talents with the world. A dream a music lover like me can really take to heart

You do realise this movie is already 110 minutes long, don’t you? An extra 30 to 45 minutes would make it far too long for the kids. I can only just sit through a more than 2 hour film in one go. Any longer than 135 minutes and I can’t watch it in the cinema.
I'm not even a music lover and I enjoyed this film a lot! My mum isn't a music lover, AND didn't even see the first film, yet enjoyed this a lot! I had two customers, who were together, come to my till at a fashion store, tell me they went to see it so they could laugh at how bad/mediocre it is, since they thought the first sing was pretty bad, and THEY ENJOYED IT A LOT! Kinda says something, don'tcha think?
Johnny: "Are you saying we should fight these thugs?"
Buster: "No, they'll beat us to a pulp."
Me: "Buster, you have a gorilla, an elephant and a lion with you, those three alone should be able to destroy those thugs, those three plus a porcupine, a lynx and two adult pigs would definitely win against a couple thugs, what is wrong with you?" XD

7:33 In my opinion the use of anthropomorphic animals was a good idea because it clearly differentiates characters with various shapes. It's how cartoon characters are so recognizable. If you look at a silhouette of Spongebob, 95% of the people would easily recognize just his shadow or contour, and the same could not be said if the entire sing cast were humans. Tall and small, you could tell apart from each character, and so the use of animals was a really good way not to give the movie an identity, but the cast.

I think it’s annoying when people demand a reason for characters to be animals or whatever. I just think of it as a creative decision. That’s all. Doesn’t make the movie bad. And like you said, it does make the film and the characters more recognizable/unique.
I'm so glad others said it because, yes, animals vs humans does make a difference! Ignoring tiny visual gags, try imagining three otherwise ordinary buff guys taking down a whole group of average or higher buff guys, or a man shouting at a teenager because he doesn't want to perform, and I know I said I wouldn't focus on the gags, but I must point out that with this being aimed at kids, if the characters were all human, I can guarantee the naked joke would not have gone over quite so well...

I liked this movie, and disagree that i was too crowded. But maybe developing this into tv show could work better? Characters are super likable and I'm sure this could work, even if the cast would have to be replace, due to cost. And man, if that movie wasn't enjoyable to watch. The visuals alone were so nicely done.

Sing may be basic, but I do think it has a charming element to it. It catches my eye more than Pets.
I'm not gonna lie, I actually thought that this film would have a high rating, but I realize a few things: Not all sequels would have higher standards, and It's not always a good idea to have your anticipation higher (Which I did with Space Jam: A New Legacy, and that turn out to be rather unfortunate in the end). Still though, this movie really does have some impressive Animation, Color effects, and Gorgeous choreography scenes, so in the end I'm okay with it.✌🙏
AniMat did have high expectations and got disappointed but I got high expectations but I was just surprised how much I enjoyed this movie even tho they gave away a lot it still became their best movie to date.
I suppose so, and also a great way to end the year 2021 on this review, and not a moment to soon. Kudos for Illumination Entertainment for making these fine beauty, and even if this is a neutral rating, it's very comforting that a lot of people find it enjoyable.
After catching an early screening of cinemas’ Christmas present back in November and taking my family to the official release on that holiday, I’m absolutely not going to lie that Sing 2 is, hands down, not only Illumination’s best sequel after Despicable Me 2, but my personal favorite from the company. It’s between an 8/10 and an 8.5/10 as it is behind Disney’s Encanto, which I gave that animated film a 9/10, but I’m pleased to see how Illumination has come a long way after more than a decade! Looking forward to the company’s next two surprises of 2022!

Sing 2 is an amazing sequel to a hopefully perfect trilogy. This movie has a wonderful mixture of spectacular storytelling, well balanced and dynamic character development, and well paced plot progression. There was never a moment that I was sitting in the theater where I was bored or thought the film was becoming stale. Every moment of this wonderful film was full of dazzling animation, funny and humorous characters, and a tale that can be enjoyed in multiple viewings. The sequel to the sing franchise really took the bare bones of the first film and built heavily upon that foundation. Each character is given much more story emphasis, without feeling as if one is more important than the other. The whole movie was meticulously scripted so that all of the cast was given just enough screen time to allow the viewers to gain an appreciation for what the character brings to the production, without stating a clear protagonist, and with a cast as full as sing 2, that is impressive. Speaking more on the cast, it was wonderful to see favorites like Rosita, Johnny, and Ash return to the ivory screens as well as new faces being added to the troop. New characters like Porsha and Clay Calloway were wonderful additions to the full cast of characters, and even with the already full roster, these characters didn't feel as if they were pushing the others out of the spotlight. To have a massive amount of characters like Sing 2 has, and to not have it feel crowded or competitive, is an impressive cinematic achievement to say the very least. Sing 2 is a perfect sequel to its predecessor, bigger stages, larger stakes, and vaster unknowns for our characters to explore. I love this franchise, and I do sincerely hope that it gets one last movie to round out a perfect trilogy. This does bring up one of my worries with this franchise though, where they will go from here. In the first film we see Buster Moon and his rag tag group of talented performers tackle the criticism and challenges of a small town theatrical performance. In the second movie we see them move to a much larger production in Red Shore City, with thousands to millions more watching, my question is where do we go from here. The way I see it, the last film should take place on the global stage, a massive production taking the talents of the world, one from each country and putting them head to head in one last talent show, on last performance to take it all. After all, as Mr. Moon would say, there's only one way left to go, Up. Sing 2 is a fantastic movie full of fun, in-depth, and dynamic characters, stunning visuals and sound design, and creative, imaginative, and illuminating storytelling. 5/5 would recommend to anyone looking for a great film to watch for the new year!

Another animation critic/historian on youtube said, in effect, "I don't know about this one; seems like it'll have a derivative plot..." To which I said "Sometimes, it's not the story you tell but how you tell it which sells the movie." And a work colleague told me she loved it, as did most of the audience the day she saw it. Quick question: would you recommend this to someone like me who has never seen the 1st movie, because let me be honest the 1st film never really looked that much interesting to me. But this looks way more interesting and the new characters look very appealing especially the wolves.
No, because the characters are mostly established in the 1st movie and here they are introduced in a way where they expect you to already be familiar with them. I mean you can, but you'd be missing out on some context when it comes to the characters.

Back when I first watched Sing in 2016 (in which I had a double feature with la la Land), I thought it was a decent film. I like the different character story focus and it felt like the actors were actually putting in effort into it.
Hopefully Super Mario will be the film that will break the ice for Illumination...

To my personal opinion, I would say Sing 2 is a step up to the first. While the story that I agree is a predictable cookie cutter of the first. It does help the movie with the execution with some elements that I felt like Illumination took a step further. I even love how the animation turned. I even enjoyed a lot of the characters, but not all of them. Even though this isn’t a masterpiece. I have high hopes the Mario Movie could be Illumination’s first Masterpiece

I went to see this movie with my little nephew, who's age 6, he liked this movie alot. I, however, found it ...tolerable.
I'd rate this movie the same as the 1st. I see it as no better, but also no worse. It does lack the heart of the 1st, but makes up for it by having more spectacle. It was really entertaining and sometimes I like animated films that might be basic, but still fun. I'd give it a 8/10.

If they ever make a sing 3,I would like to see one or two characters get a little bit more of a character development along buster moon,for example in the first one,meena had more development becuase of her story about being shy,which made her stand out than any of the characters in the first movie,and the second one,it was ash trying to convince Calloway to perform,and for the third movie,maybe either Johnny or Gunther can have a more prominent role like ash and meena from the past films.

Sing as a whole is pretty alright as kids films go. They are as pop culture as you can get with a kids film, and the story ain't 100%, but actual effort was put in, effort I haven't seen since the first Despicable Me.

Well I did enjoy the first film in which it was supposed to even an old theater by performing basically karaoke covers of many different famous songs and I suppose you like the character of the mouse played by the amazing Seth MacFarlane and the unforeseen heroine that is actually voiced by Scarlett Johansson plus I've always had a soft spot for the stage and theater I've always loved to sing as a child and its nature and even now and the sequel ramp it up tenfold and I got to admit I do love Portia even when she was acting a bratty got to get close to her voice actor and singing Ms.Halsey

I preferred the songs in Sing 2, which, if you can't get good songs in a movie ABOUT singing, then you've already gone down in points. I like Halsey's singing, such as This Girl is On Fire and Could Have Been Me. But, I also like that this film is a bit darker. It had the word 'heck' in a couple lines, had Johnny's dad, AKA thugs, beat up security, had Jimmy be verbally and emotionally abusive to Porsha, and also had Jimmy attempt to kill Buster, twice.

Though unlike the Pets or Sing movies, Kung Fu Panda and especially Zootopia are far greater movies in terms of story, character, themes and world building. And let's not forget another talking animal flick from 2016, Finding Dory, another great example.

Speaking of which, if you compare Zootopia to Sing 1 and 2, you can see Disney really did there homework when it comes to making a movie populated by anthropomorphized animals worth watching. From the architecture of the city, to the vehicles they drive, to even the social commentary on racism, everything plays a part in Zootopia's universe. All the Sing movies did was take talking animals and plopped them in ordinary generic locations that are eerily similar to what we see every day in the real world without putting a unique twist to it. It comes off as Ok at best while Zootopia goes above and beyond the concept, making you believe that their world is specifically made for animals, by animals. It may be a slight nitpick on my part but there's no denying that Zootopia succeeded where Sing sorta failed.

What made me really appreciate it was the overall environment, especially since I went to a special presentation where some of the film's staff discussed how they crafted its world. Just hearing them elaborate on all those details of the city while presenting several movie clips felt inspiring.

The story: 10/10
The story of this movie is so deep and it has higher stakes than the first movie. It has a more serious and darker tone which I really like. I also think the story is very original where it’s only flaw is the marketing which is just a bit nit picky.
The animation: 10/10
The animation in this movie looks even better than the first movie. Sure it could’ve been about humans but who knows maybe Illumination could someday remake the Sing movies and replace the animals with humans. But besides that I don’t mind them being animals per say.
The characters: 10/10
A lot of characters stay the same as before and there’s also new characters. Starting with the new characters. My favorite character Porsha I get that she’s the daughter of the villain but she’s honestly more nicer which makes her likeable. Then we got Nooshy the cat that teaches Johnny how to dance and at last Clay Calloway which is what gives this movie more heart than the first movie.
The songs: 10/10
I know most of those aren’t original but I haven’t heard of some of the songs so I really liked them overall.

When watching this movie, I am yet again surprised why many people seem to have such a bad opinion of Illumination. I thought the designs and animations looked quite fantastic in this one. The various show acts, the big Las Vegas inspired city and some of the surprisingly fun appearances of old and new characters personally do all convince me that they are able to do a bunch of things very right.
Well its their opinion of the film, but i respect theirs and i think this movie was surprisingly great and fun to watch

i personally liked this movie slightly more than the first(maybe bc its better quality wise, aka its newer) and i love how its a bunch of different stories since we get to see each character have a bunch of development so it doesnt feel like the singers are just sidecharacters but instead all of them have their own stories and importance, and it doesnt focus on one main character

Excellent review! Yes, the plot and characters are really nothing special but the animation was so beautiful and the play was quite an spectacle to watch, I think this is a good movie, not great but not bad either.

Why am I surprised that this movie got a 6/10? I guess because he was impressed in the crazy cartoon cast so I expected a great rating.
The one thing that has been bothering me is Calloways singing voice ,like, it doesn’t fit him at all (and I think he was a bit too easy to convince tbh)
I would argue that having multiple characters having their time to shine isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I think that its a great thing to have different characters having their time in the spotlight! But something I do agree with you on is that I wish that some of the character arcs in this movie were expanded on more and given more time to develop. I wish they had spent more time on the getting Clay Calloway back to music arc. I feel like they resolved that too quickly without going into much depth on Ash convincing Clay Calloway to rejoin music making. I wish we had spent more time with them like having an in-depth emotional talk on why he shouldn't give up on music. Similarly, I wish they had done more character development on Porsha when she realized that she had overreacted when she thought that Moon fired her (and almost got him killed unintentionally because of this). I feel like her realization came out of nowhere and we should have had a moment where she realized her mistake in a way that didn't come out of nowhere. And on that topic, I wish that we got to see more with her standing up to her father. I know this probably would have made the film longer and they are trying to keep this under 100 minutes but I still think it would have added more character development and made things more interesting.

From here, I don’t think they need a third movie. I would think that a fun little series of mini-musicals or some fleshed-out version of their space musical would work. The space musical in the movie was not exactly the best if you made the space musical its own movie, mainly because there simply wasn’t enough time. If they integrate rosita into more of the musical numbers, add more songs, and write the characters with their own motives, then they could pull off a half-hour special of just them on a stage, in character, and acting out the space musical.

Great musical performance but the story is still bland and is not my cup of tea. Koati made a 'better' performance by introducing obscure animals, Sing 2 has it too like alpaca but still. Third time a December animation movie bored me, Seal team looks promising.

I think one of the reasons illumination didn't want to make the anthropomorphic animal characters in the sing movies human is because they probably didn't want to make a carbon copy of the despicable me films

To answer your question--would the movie be different if they were humans? Yes, because Johnny's dad would have never escaped prison if he were a human. Also, I love the review and the voice.
Animals can be more expressive than humans in animation without setting off the uncanny valley
Why have animals? It's easier to diversify than Humans. Plus, too many humans drawn in the West are usually too abstracted anyway lately.

What I got from this movie is that its okay to lie your way, step on peoples boundaries and use other people’s resources as long as your doing it for your dream. Buster Moon was super selfish in this movie that I cant really root for him. Crystal’s actions was understandable albeit too harsh when he tried to kill him. He was also very pushy with the Clay for his own benefit. The other characters were the redeeming factor of this movie alongside the animation. But Buster Moon really left a sour taste in my mouth with his actions on this sequel.

Sorry you didn’t have a great time with the movie but at least, I had a great time with the movie and possibly one of my favorite animated movies in the 2021 in my opinion alongside Dinosaur Train Adventure Island and The Paw Patrol Movie and my favorite movies in the year 2021 alongside Godzilla vs Kong and Spider-Man No Way Home in my opinion.
Can’t wait to rewatch the movie all over again to see how amazing it is in my opinion.

Going to see it at my local theater. I found the original Sing was fun. These movies don't need to be complex.
I just wish the movie were a little bit longer to flesh out all of their problems in a better way. Some of it was being solved a little bit too... easy and fast. Like Ash's, Porsha's, and especially Clay's parts

Porsha was honestly the stand out character in my opinion

You know I learned something from this movie: have your movie's trailers reveal little about the film so they don't give out spoilers and ruin the movie.
Hands down, this was a better movie than Sing 1, even though I do wish that there was more development on Clay Calloway's story. Nevertheless, the bop behind the music and the excellent secondary character development was just TOP-NOTCH.
