"Boo?" "Kitty!" Emotional Damage! 😭 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Mary Gibbs. Music Enthusiast Fact: If I Didn't Have You (2001) by Randy Newman finally netted the composer an Academy Award after 16 nominations. Obvious Foreshadowing Fact: Whenever the CDA arrives, Roz (Bob Peterson) tends to pull down the shutter to her office, likely to hide the fact that she's the leader. What Script Fact: The sequence where Mike is waking up Sulley (John Goodman) he was supposed to blow an air horn and yell at Sulley but Billy Crystal improvised the radio weather forecast sequence and the directors loved it and decided to keep it in the film. Voice Play Fact: Mary Gibbs was so young that it proved difficult to get her to stand in the recording studio and act her lines. Instead, they simply followed her around with a microphone and cut Boo's lines together from the things she said while she played. John Goodman and Billy Crystal sometimes recorded their lines in the same room together, an unusual move for animated films, where actors more often work alone. Steve Buscemi and Frank Oz (Randall and his assistant Fungus) also recorded their lines together for the bathroom scene. Bob Peterson, the movie's story supervisor, provided the temporary voice of Roz, the green secretary, during production. The nasal, sing-song voice proved to be such a success that they kept it in the final film.
The True Genius of Pixar - take a simple / childhood Fear of Monsters, flip-flop that idea and You get a Wonderful World- Building Adventure, loaded with Laughs😂and full of Heart too!💖Thanks so much for watching this one, My Friend🥰 Billy Crystal and John Goodman (as "Mike and Sully") are one of My Favorite Comedic-Duos of All-Time!👍(LOL) I Hope You'll also check-out "Monsters University" sometime; it's a 2013 Prequel that shows how Mike and Sully first met, back in college!👌
I’ll be watching you ! Always watching. Always! Fun fact-Because the child actor who voiced Boo was too young to follow conventional directions the sound crew followed her around all day and just recorded her as she was playing with her toys. 🙏.
I knew someone named Mike Rogowski, and every time I saw him I had to keep reminding myself "It's Rogowski, not Wazowski"... -PS the Harryhausen restaurant is a reference to SFX/stop-motion creator Ray Harryhausen -PPS George carrying a watermelon and sledgehammer is a reference to the American comedian Gallagher
Sorry, you're not going to see a sequel. You are going to see a prequel - the backstory of how Mike and Sully first meet and become employees of Monsters Inc.
The worst part is is that the movie is a giant plot hole because the prequel claims they first met in college. While in the first film Mike in the beginning said to sully that he was always jealous of his looks since the fourth grade. Can we just agree they should've have a sequel and that the prequel is unnecessary? I like to believe that the prequel never existed.
5:17 - *Not all Monsters in that universe are child scarers; only a select few work in that field. That fire breathing Monster probably has another job* 38:43 - *The PIXAR effect strikes again!* 😭😜😭 *_Never fails!_*
This flim basically takes the idea of "monster hiding under your bed" and adds the idea of it not being anything personal and just their job, it quite a creative idea.
*I love that duet between Billy Crystal and John Goodman. The song "If I Didn't Have You" is fantastic. Also, if you don't recognize the voice of Mike's girlfriend Celia, that's Jennifer Tilly, best known as Tiffany, the love interest of the iconic serial killer doll Chucky.*
33:15 "Oh. He didn't... _scare_ her. He made her _laugh._ That's all you could _do."_ Yeah. Sullivan figured it out. Laughter provides even more power than screams.
I don't know why it's not included in streaming versions but there are several post credit scenes. There are some bloopers which I love that pixar did for a while. Then there is their company musical which they ended up actually putting on 'Put that thing back where it came from or so help me' 😅
"Kitty!" Boo is one of the most adorable animated kids ever. This is basically the Disney version of a show from Nickelodeon called "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters." The premise is that three young monsters are attending a school located in a New York landfill where they learn to scare humans, whose fear is the source of their existence. Sound familiar? 05:28 That was a grate pun. 😁 06:10 As in Ray Harryhausen, the godfather of stop motion animation, known especially for his dinosaur and monster animations. 07:19 I can totally see you in some dead-end office job, fed up with life, squinting at people through the window over your glasses and groaning "Don't let it happen again." 😂 07:51 More like astronauts in the movie "The Right Stuff," which has Ed Harris (who would later play Gene Kranz in Apollo 13) in the role of Alan Shepard. 9:18 Just tell them that every time they go to sleep, they're actually experiencing a brief moment of death, and that with every night, they come closer and closer to never waking up again. Sweet dreams. 😘 25:34 This is a little too similar to a scene from the movie (and book) 1984. I wonder if they're in room 101.
Hi Shree, I LOVE Monsters Inc. When my granddaughter was 3 or 4 (she is 8 now), she watched EVERY Pixar movie. Her favs were Monsters Inc., Cars and Finding Nemo, so I have seen them MANY times. Boo is the cutest. You kinda look like an adult Boo.😁😘🥰
Alphabet Code - Alert code used throughout the film as the running gag - 23/19 is a numeric for letters W and S, which stands for 'White Sock'. Regular Faces - John Ratzenberger (Hamm from Toy Story, Flea Circus Owner from Bug's Life, Mack from Cars, Underminer from Incredibles) playing the Yeti. Power Reversal - Frank Oz, voice of Yoda and half the Muppets (Ms. Piggy, Bert, Cookie Monster, Grover), plays the cowardly red-bodied three-eyed assistant to Randall. Horrid Hommage - Ray Harryhausen (after which the restaurant is named) was one of the originators of stop-motion effects used in film, usually monster features - Mighty Joe Young, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans - said to be a big influence on people such as Phil Tippet (Star Wars, Robocop, Willow, Starship Troopers, Jurassic Park). Past Life Scare - At one point Randall tells his red assistant that if he won't do as told, he'll put him through the shredder - something that happens to the voice of Randall (Steve Buscemi), or rather his character in Fargo. Nightmare Scenario - A place, where many of the ideas for the 'future' Pixar projects were thrown around by the young staff at the time - Hidden Cafe - makes a cameo in the film, when a green monster sweeps the street during Mike's and Sully's stroll to work. (Also, hope that stream will be soon :D My birthday was just yesterday when this video came out, which is a pleasant surprise
Thank you for the info! Happy belated birthday 🎉🎂 Yes haha I've been mustering the courage to do a livestream soon, hope it goes well. Will check out Soldier and a few other frequent requests to come prepared 😊
4:24 "That is _true._ You need so much more, nowadays, with, like, video games and sh!t, horror movies." I wouldn't be so sure. You've seen the movie _The Shining._ It was made as a horror flick, apparently to scare the _crap_ out people, the year it was made. Recently, when _I_ saw it for the first time, I thought it was kind of slow. But I've also seen the reaction of a young lady named Cassie, on her channel _Popcorn in Bed._ She's a bit younger than I am, but it scared the crap out of _her._ 🤷♂
Haha true, but movies like The Shining came out once in a while, back in the day. Now there's video games, UA-cam horror shorts, real life horrors, you name it. Monsters Inc would've had tough competition today.
Sorry i missed it. I never saw Monsters Inc. when I was a teenager...not until many years later, so the CG was a bit cringy for me, but it still sent a great message and that is still the case today, that there are no more loyal and honest souls in the world than children.
👍 This film reunited John Goodman with Steve Buscemi who had both starred in "The Big Lebowski" three years earlier. 🥸 Another really great animated feature with Steve Buscemi in it is "Monster House" (2006), a Sony/Columbia release. 🤔 A personal opinion of mine that people are welcome to disagree with: I don't think the follow-up to this film, "Monster's University" (2013) is very good. It has none of this film's edginess, and none of these characters have particularly interesting back stories (which is essentially what the whole movie is about). 😉
I personally love Monster's University as much as the first one. It's just different in tone and I really like the character arcs of Mike and Sully. The thing that kinda bugs me is the continuity gap. In Monster's Inc. Mike mentions that Sully has been jealous of him since the 5th grade or something like that and then in Monster's University they are shown as meeting for the first time.
The voice of Roz is Bob Peterson. He also voiced the dog Dug from Up and the teacher Mr Ray from Finding Nemo.
