This song hurts alot more when you realize that it's ultimately a final farewell to a character we grew up with since 1993. We played through X's first mission on the SNES as kids and now we're saying goodbye to him as adults. And now X is finally at rest after literally spending his entire life fighting war after endless war, never once knowing what true peace felt like.
X had faith in Zero even after finding out that his program has a virus during the prequel events of Z-series. Same goes for Zero, he always had faith in X that he will protect everyone while in his absence. Zero has to do what he deemed is right, sealing his original body away for studies - in hopes of finding a vaccine to the virus. Thus, giving birth to the program called "Cyber Elves". Mother Elf is like Zero's daughter since it was derived from him. Going back to X, he is nearly spent after the destruction of his original body at MMZ 2, acting as sealing vessel for Dark Elf. X's body and program is immune to the Maverick virus. Meaning, even if he sustains damage or strains from it, his program never gets corrupted to become one. Which is why during the events of Elf Wars, X chose to seal Dark Elf while waiting for Zero's consciousness to be transferred to his new body. Since then, X's spirit-like consciousness has been watching Zero.

Love how the split faces are represented in picture that capured the theme of Zero 3, like how Ωmega(Left) shatters, and slowly crumbling away, while Zero(Right) rises from the ashes. Great details that symbolizes the true meaning of zero(0), starting over from scratch or reborn a new via 'rebirth'. Showing that "The End" is only the beginning....
That and well... Zero is the only one who defines what he stands for. Omega is, in retrospect, the very Zero Wily wanted. The intended result. We see a glimpse of that in Virus Zero in X5, and his sheer brutality is what makes Omega so terrifying: he is what Zero was supposed to be. Instead, because of a freak accident, Zero winds up being a completely different person. And because of that, he becomes a legend of his own definition. That's why he has no hesitation to destroy his "original" body because his original body doesn't define who he is. He wouldn't let Omega decide what he was supposed to be. Zero just... is. He always will "be".

How he cut him down to define himself as well as burying his bloody legacy. I agree with everything you said. I already know that Omega is essentially what Zero was originally supposed to be in Wily's eyes, a god of destruction designed to destroy the original blue bomber. Though Wily never was able to control him to the glitch in his cognitive systems as well as the maverick virus made Zero into a completely different person as a result. Though Wily did come back in the form of Sarge & Issac throughout the X series, & in X5 worked with Sigma to unleashed the virus across the world to fully awaken Zero. However that failed, so afterwards he disappeared, never to be brought up again, with the except of small Easter eggs. I literally broke down into tears when I reached the end of Zero 3, knowing that X would no longer be able to be with Zero in the real world again, combined with this music. Though, there’s also a small sense of hope in this theme as well, that Zero will continue to fight for those he cares about, and to keep X’s promise to keep the world safe.
I feel like zero is only as badass as he is in Z4 because he no longer cares at that point WHAT he is, only WHO he's made himself rather than what others see him as, and the allies he's made to push him that far.
Mepp 2 years late on this, but I think it’s a little different than that. Zero was doing what X left behind for him: his legacy. Hence the name “Megaman Zero”, despite Zero actually being created by Wily and technically not a megaman (although in ZX they completely blow that title out of the water). Zero 4 was Zero’s just actions in protecting the peace of reploid and humans alike, although his last words would contradict a bit of it as he never seen himself as a hero.

God, when I was kid, my first Megaman game was actually a fan game, called Megaman Zero 1.5, I liked it so much that I started to search on UA-cam gameplays and I started to see the other Megaman games, like x and the classic, and, to be honest, I’ve never played a Megaman zero game on my own, until 2020, when I bought the legacy collection, and all those feelings for finally play the original games filled me with so much joy, and, even if I spoiled myself the final of zero 3 and zero 4 countless times, I cried anyways, because I finally experimented for myself how it felt play these games, feel the music and the gameplay at my own... Aww man,x´s Life is not fair. ._.; In Megaman x1 he had to go through the pain of killing all his Companions but zero,then he waches his own best friend die..2 times. Then he had to fight alone for 100 Years,he realized how hollow was his life and sacrifsed his body for the Dark elf and the world´s sake...Then on Megaman Zero 3 he just dies...what is worst is that Zero is unconcius while X is saying good bye...*Sniff*
I've always found it surprising some of the narrative choices they've made with the Mega Man franchise. Even though Dr. Light's iconic blue robot is the face of the Mega Man series, it's Dr. Wily's red killing machine that ends up outliving him and becoming just as much of a hero if not more of one. I love how X and Zero's friendship transcends Light and Wily's bitter rivalry.
Seriously? This soundtrack shows the Death of Megaman X, and this one can remind of Zero's death in Z4 too. But Put X in this soundtrack first, the last creation of Dr. Light has joined his father and siblings. Rock must have that fate too. BTW some youtuber made a patch of Z3 Where you can Play as X!
...Literally the same happens to Zero. He can finally get to see his father, and his... Um... 56 (?) brothers plus Bass. This is made more emotional by the fact that, unlike X, Zero has never seen his creator, Wily, before, making this both a reunion and a father-son meeting.
I wonder if Wily had a change of heart? I mean, he had good ambitions, only to have his double gear system project to be shot down by Light and his higher ups. Which made Wily bitter and not only to prove himself, but to take over the world multiple times just to prove his genius. Even after stopped by his arch nemesis Megaman or outside forces, he still won't give up. Near the end of his life, he constructed Zero for sole the purpose of destroying Megaman, however a glitch in his AI made him not only disobedient, but a bloodthirsty maniac. This made Wily afraid of using him, so he decided to seal him away. In his final years of life, Wily would be probably be lonely simce most of the robot masters he built were either destroyed or melted din after the line is discontinued. This combined with him potentially being further corrupted due to studying the effects evil energy he acquired from MM8 to make Robozenza and eventually the maverick virus commendating him in changing Zero's purpose from defeating Megaman to become the "God of destruction" to destroy everything that relates to Dr. Light's legacy. Even after his physical death, he seem to comeback years later in the X series, in the form of some kind of AI, one of the X-hunters named Serges. In X2, He seems familiar with Zero infrastructure, even giving him shoulder pads and the Z-saber. This along with mistaken X for Rock in the Japanese version on top of knowing X's origins. In X5, he works with Sigma to awaken Zero's true purpose by crashing the virus infected Eurasia colony into the Sigma virus viral Earth to create the zero virus to awaken zero to his true purpose. In X6 He worked with Gate as a Reploid Scientist named Isoc in the nightmare incident as well as creating Highmax. Interestingly when Zero defeated the Reploid, he praises Zero unlike X. This especially the case when his body is lifeless within the gate stages, calling Zero "the strongest robot". Strangely however, Wily's influence seem to have disappeared, never to be mention again. Which makes me wonder after X6, did Wily have a change of heart? In my headcanon, after the influence of the evil energy has faded from him due to the maverick virus' destruction, he would eventually have time to reflect on his actions that have led up to this point. His hatred of Light's last creation, X reminds him of the Original Blue bomber which defeated him time and time again. Which would give him motivation to give his last creation Zero a new purpose: destroy the Original Megaman's true successor & youngest brother, X. However, in between the X series & Zero series. Overtime as the curse of the evil energy began to fade, Wily would probably have the time to reflect on his actions, realizing that after all the years of bitterness and jealousy have blinded him from his true ambition: To make robots push their limits to become heroes. This revelation would probably would result in leading Wily in a state of depression, realizing how much of his life and afterlife he wasted trying to prove his superiority to Light and causing so many tragedies a century later. Ironically, Wily didn't expect that his last son would give up his body for study after finding out his true origins(either by himself or Wily telling him this) to find the cure for the maverick virus that would eventually lead to the creation of the Mother Elf as well as her children, the Cyber-Elves to help both Repliods and Humans alike. Until the Elf Wars(the bloodiest conflict in the megaman universe) happened all because of one of the Mother-Elf's creators, Dr. Weil, wanted to use it so to control Reploids across the world by any means(despite the fact that 60% of humans & 90% of reploids died in the conflict). Wily would see him as everything he despise of himself, on top stealing his son's body to create Omega, the monster that Zero was when he was intended to be, though Wily would stranagely admit that Weil somehow didn't bump into the same issues that he had to deal with Zero when he first created him. However that's probably going to be the only praise Wily would ever give him. When Weil turns out to be a sadistic, sociopathic, evil nihilistic person that makes Wily himself look like a child. Wily going so far to call Weil a monster, you know you're seriously messed up when even an evil genius like Wily calls you out. Though Wily would probably feel responsible for giving him these views if we count the maverick conflicts that involve his virus, he might've tried to convince him to stop but sees he's far too gone to ever change his mind. He would continue to watch over Zero, until Zero 3. After beating Omega as well as the dark curse of the Mother Elf fading away, Wily would come in a cyber-physical form, much to Weil's surprised look(since he would probably discover Wily's notes on his life, and the secrets on how to "awaken" Zero's original body in the form of Omega). Weil would probably beg Wily to stop Zero from destroying Omega, since the latter have Zero's original body, which Wily himself created, as well as being the last/greatest of his creations. Would he let his legacy be defined by a cheap copy forevermore? However in a twist of irony, Wily give his last son his final order, "Do whatever you think is best". With the encouragement of his friends and even his own creator, Zero dashes to Omega, delivering the final blow, causing a chain reaction which causing Omega to explode, enveloping the area in a massive fireball that incinerate everything within the blast radius.... After the defeat of Omega, and the final moments of Cyber-Elf X, Wily would speak to Zero about his dream of robots pushing their limits, how his he let his arrogance and bitterness get the better of him, as well as trying to prove to Light his incredible genius. However a blue robot(the original Megaman) has stopped him time and time again. He wanted to take him down so badly, that it blinded him from his true dream. Which only lead him down a much darker path that have lead to further pain and misery across the world for two centuries that will plague him for the rest of his afterlife. Wily would then express how proud he was that his son chose his own path, before disappearing to Cyberspace forever.......

The theory claims this is why Zero's body is not visible in the image, only his helmet, which the theory states Zero dropped. The theory continues to say that Zero lived on, formed a new Guardian Force to fight the same fight the old Resistance Force fought. He changed his identity to "Girouette" as to avoid public disturbance, making all think Zero truly died.

Zero was also originally intended to be the main character for Mega Man X - but they felt he was too different from the original, so they opted to throw him into a secondary position and created "Mega Man X" as we know him.
Whoever stated X7, 8 and Command Mission isn't canon, guess again. It just takes lace at an unspecified time after X6. In fact, Zero's ending in 6 takes place AFTER the X series, like at the start of the Elf Wars and it's shenanigans. ZXA proves that Axl has a heavy influence on Model A. God, when I was kid, my first Megaman game was actually a fan game, called Megaman Zero 1.5, I liked it so much that I started to search on UA-cam gameplays and I started to see the other Megaman games, like x and the classic, and, to be honest, I’ve never played a Megaman zero game on my own, until 2020, when I bought the legacy collection, and all those feelings for finally play the original games filled me with so much joy, and, even if I spoiled myself the final of zero 3 and zero 4 countless times, I cried anyways, because I finally experimented for myself how it felt play these games, feel the music and the gameplay at my own... Megaman gave me so much good times, then and now, but I specially love Megaman Zero
yeah MMZ is special. I'd say it's the #1 MegaMan Experience. Imo

I've always found it surprising some of the narrative choices they've made with the Mega Man franchise. Even though Dr. Light's iconic blue robot is the face of the Mega Man series, it's Dr. Wily's red killing machine that ends up outliving him and becoming just as much of a hero if not more of one. I love how X and Zero's friendship transcends Light and Wily's bitter rivalry.

Seriously? This soundtrack shows the Death of Megaman X, and this one can remind of Zero's death in Z4 too. But Put X in this soundtrack first, the last creation of Dr. Light has joined his father and siblings. Rock must have that fate too. BTW some youtuber made a patch of Z3 Where you can Play as X!

...Literally the same happens to Zero. He can finally get to see his father, and his... Um... 56 (?) brothers plus Bass. This is made more emotional by the fact that, unlike X, Zero has never seen his creator, Wily, before, making this both a reunion and a father-son meeting.

I wonder if Wily had a change of heart? I mean, he had good ambitions, only to have his double gear system project to be shot down by Light and his higher ups. Which made Wily bitter and not only to prove himself, but to take over the world multiple times just to prove his genius. Even after stopped by his arch nemesis Megaman or outside forces, he still won't give up. Near the end of his life, he constructed Zero for sole the purpose of destroying Megaman, however a glitch in his AI made him not only disobedient, but a bloodthirsty maniac. This made Wily afraid of using him, so he decided to seal him away. In his final years of life, Wily would be probably be lonely simce most of the robot masters he built were either destroyed or melted din after the line is discontinued. This combined with him potentially being further corrupted due to studying the effects evil energy he acquired from MM8 to make Robozenza and eventually the maverick virus commendating him in changing Zero's purpose from defeating Megaman to become the "God of destruction" to destroy everything that relates to Dr. Light's legacy.
Even after his physical death, he seem to comeback years later in the X series, in the form of some kind of AI, one of the X-hunters named Serges. In X2, He seems familiar with Zero infrastructure, even giving him shoulder pads and the Z-saber. This along with mistaken X for Rock in the Japanese version on top of knowing X's origins.
In X5, he works with Sigma to awaken Zero's true purpose by crashing the virus infected Eurasia colony into the Sigma virus viral Earth to create the zero virus to awaken zero to his true purpose.
In X6 He worked with Gate as a Reploid Scientist named Isoc in the nightmare incident as well as creating Highmax. Interestingly when Zero defeated the Reploid, he praises Zero unlike X. This especially the case when his body is lifeless within the gate stages, calling Zero "the strongest robot". Strangely however, Wily's influence seem to have disappeared, never to be mention again. Which makes me wonder after X6, did Wily have a change of heart?
In my headcanon, after the influence of the evil energy has faded from him due to the maverick virus' destruction, he would eventually have time to reflect on his actions that have led up to this point. His hatred of Light's last creation, X reminds him of the Original Blue bomber which defeated him time and time again. Which would give him motivation to give his last creation Zero a new purpose: destroy the Original Megaman's true successor & youngest brother, X.
However, in between the X series & Zero series. Overtime as the curse of the evil energy began to fade, Wily would probably have the time to reflect on his actions, realizing that after all the years of bitterness and jealousy have blinded him from his true ambition: To make robots push their limits to become heroes. This revelation would probably would result in leading Wily in a state of depression, realizing how much of his life and afterlife he wasted trying to prove his superiority to Light and causing so many tragedies a century later.
Ironically, Wily didn't expect that his last son would give up his body for study after finding out his true origins(either by himself or Wily telling him this) to find the cure for the maverick virus that would eventually lead to the creation of the Mother Elf as well as her children, the Cyber-Elves to help both Repliods and Humans alike. Until the Elf Wars(the bloodiest conflict in the megaman universe) happened all because of one of the Mother-Elf's creators, Dr. Weil, wanted to use it so to control Reploids across the world by any means(despite the fact that 60% of humans & 90% of reploids died in the conflict). Wily would see him as everything he despise of himself, on top stealing his son's body to create Omega, the monster that Zero was when he was intended to be, though Wily would stranagely admit that Weil somehow didn't bump into the same issues that he had to deal with Zero when he first created him. However that's probably going to be the only praise Wily would ever give him. When Weil turns out to be a sadistic, sociopathic, evil nihilistic person that makes Wily himself look like a child. Wily going so far to call Weil a monster, you know you're seriously messed up when even an evil genius like Wily calls you out. Though Wily would probably feel responsible for giving him these views if we count the maverick conflicts that involve his virus, he might've tried to convince him to stop but sees he's far too gone to ever change his mind. He would continue to watch over Zero, until Zero 3. After beating Omega as well as the dark curse of the Mother Elf fading away, Wily would come in a cyber-physical form, much to Weil's surprised look(since he would probably discover Wily's notes on his life, and the secrets on how to "awaken" Zero's original body in the form of Omega). Weil would probably beg Wily to stop Zero from destroying Omega, since the latter have Zero's original body, which Wily himself created, as well as being the last/greatest of his creations. Would he let his legacy be defined by a cheap copy forevermore? However in a twist of irony, Wily give his last son his final order, "Do whatever you think is best". With the encouragement of his friends and even his own creator, Zero dashes to Omega, delivering the final blow, causing a chain reaction which causing Omega to explode, enveloping the area in a massive fireball that incinerate everything within the blast radius.... After the defeat of Omega, and the final moments of Cyber-Elf X, Wily would speak to Zero about his dream of robots pushing their limits, how his he let his arrogance and bitterness get the better of him, as well as trying to prove to Light his incredible genius. However a blue robot(the original Megaman) has stopped him time and time again. He wanted to take him down so badly, that it blinded him from his true dream. Which only lead him down a much darker path that have lead to further pain and misery across the world for two centuries that will plague him for the rest of his afterlife. Wily would then express how proud he was that his son chose his own path, before disappearing to Cyberspace forever.......

@fear123freak There is also a theory that states that figure was Cyber-Elf Elpizo, there to make up for past mistakes by reviving Zero. The theory claims this is why Zero's body is not visible in the image, only his helmet, which the theory states Zero dropped. The theory continues to say that Zero lived on, formed a new Guardian Force to fight the same fight the old Resistance Force fought. He changed his identity to "Girouette" as to avoid public disturbance, making all think Zero truly died.

@G04i77A2 Yes, around 0:29-0:31 of this song, it's similar to the part in Simple and Clean (same as Hikari, basically) where Utada sings "way that you're making me feel tonight". Yeah, I've noticed this for awhile now. It's a far cry to say that the whole songs resemble each other, but for those instances, yes.
The Mother Elf protected Zero from the explosion of Omega's body, but couldn't save Zero from the falling ragnarok... pity.

Zero was also originally intended to be the main character for Mega Man X - but they felt he was too different from the original, so they opted to throw him into a secondary position and created "Mega Man X" as we know him.

Whoever stated X7, 8 and Command Mission isn't canon, guess again. It just takes lace at an unspecified time after X6. In fact, Zero's ending in 6 takes place AFTER the X series, like at the start of the Elf Wars and it's shenanigans. ZXA proves that Axl has a heavy influence on Model A. The bolt in place of a fore head crystal? Clearly a throw back to Lumine's final attack.
