I did not like to see the fall during competition. I feel so sorry for them. But I loved the one where the medal was given to the wrong girl and how gracefully she gave it over to the correct one.
That was Mariah Bell (USA), who was mistakenly awarded with a gold medal instead of a bronze one :) Aliona Kostornaia (Russia) won a gold medal in that competition.
the sad thing about a lot of these ice skating fails is that there is no telling where there will be a divet in the ice that catches on your ice skates. So in reality, even the best skaters can have these falls. Winning a gold at the olympics is 90% skill and 10% luck of not hitting one of the many random divets in the ice.
I went to the 2018 Skate America and the whole lutz corner of the rink that I was sitting right above was a half-defrosted slush mess for the first day of competition and every skater that jumped there fell. It was then that I realized that the "cursed ice of Skate America" really is real XD Plus US Nationals that year had dead bugs all over the ice that Adam Rippon legit had to pick off himself before his program.

They were forced to postpone the game because the ice was in such terrible condition after the show and the time was too short to fix it. They did some ridiculous stuff like burning scates, but still if one show is enough to ruin the ice like that, I can imagine what several days of competition of several scaters do to the ice.
I am more afraid I’m gonna hurt somebody else with my blades tbh. Especially on a crowded rink when people fall and just hang out fallen all over with their hands all over the ice… I am too afraid to skate with actual (non rental) blades on my feet!
Just saying, it wasn't even a near miss. The camera angle just makes it look closer than it was. She was actually nowhere near them. I agree that Kaori is criminally underscored though

I remember when Midori Ito fell into the cameras. She popped back up like it was nothing. And that was right after she had a really serious collision with another skater during warm up. I just loved watching her skate. Most of these weren't funny; they were falls. 😢
Midori Ito, the fantastic, powerful Japanese skater was the one who flew off the ice into the camera area. I remember her well. I believe she would have medaled if not for that. She ranked 4th I think, if memory serves me right.

I admired that too. He could not stop the fall once it started. But he did control her fall to prevent serious injury. It looked like she would have landed on her head otherwise. He kept a tight grip and fought hard to keep his balance. Sure it looked awkward but it was a terrific save.
The young woman at 2.00, falls into the camera, could very easily been hurt, goes over to the camera to make sure the camera man and the camera are ok, what a star!
Loved the humor with the Canadian coach who made fun of her hair getting stuck !!! And the antics of the Yuru, The Japanese Gold medalist !!He's sooo funny... Loved the reaction after someone held him up... much longer than he thought !!! And yes, I agree with the gentleman who liked the wrong medal exchange, & please no laughing at falls. Not Funny...
Yuzuru's clumsiness is legendary; almost as legendary as his skill.😂😂😂 Seeing him fall down was like watching a swan or a unicorn crash into a door. But all in all, respect and love for all these artists that give us their art with so much passion and beauty 🤗

This just illustrates how skaters can be one millimeter off and disaster happens. They make it look so easy that we forget how difficult, and sometimes dangerous, what they’re doing is.
Missed my all time favorite funny moments in figure skating: 1. back in 2017 I think at what I believe was Rostelecom Cup (whichever comp was commentated by Yulia Lipnitskaya and some dudebro from a sport completely unrelated to figure skating), Mikhail Kolyada had just skated an Elvis program then Match TV went to commercial and immediately after the commercial break, before showing the replays from Kolyada's skate, the male commentator comes on speaking English out of nowhere and says "Hello ladies~~~ You like my free skating?" in an Elvis impression voice. 2. Anna Sherbakova's sister posting in a livesteam chat while the camera was focused on Plushenko with his mask under his nose that "A nose that big ought to be able to hold up a mask".
Ikr.I do think it's a totally fine thing to give awareness to these people and appreciate them for doing such a good performance but making fun of them is just dumb and stupid
