- James Sunderland is a Sad Fella whose wife has just died of Ultra Cancer. But then she sends him a letter from Silent Hill! What’s going on here then? Looks like James better get down to that nightmare town and see what’s what while dealing with a bunch of other not all there people, and also a child. WARNING: this game is very depressing.

It doesn't matter how many times I hear it, I can't get through the full letter reading without getting a little teary.
it's crazy how much of the game lives or dies on her performance. It's good either way but she really pushes it over the edge into brilliance.
I love that this compilation goes through the guys being weirded out by the atmosphere of the game, tem starting to have fun with the horror, going full QA mode on the red pyramid thing, getting into the atmosphere again and then BOOM, soul crushed by the letter.
I've lost count how many times I watched the old LP but man, I still can't deal with Mary's letter and when James relives their final conversation in the last hallway. The voice acting is so good and brutal, I feel so depressed every time. It's part of the reason I think the remake is just DOA, I just don't think it could match up with what we got 20+ years ago.
It can't and it won't, but people will suck it off regardless

genuinely not to be a contrarian or a bootlicker, the OG will always be #1 in my heart, but after seeing some of the footage, I _am_ genuinely looking forward to seeing more remake _Laura._ She's basically the one part of the OG where I couldn't convince myself that the awkward delivery was, like, intentional and actually genius. I liked the new take on the scene w/ her before the Flesh Lips, and I'm excited to see her respond to James telling her the truth
Honestly the only reason I really see to be against the remake on principle (i can't think of enough examples of a disliked remake actually culturally displacing the original to really be worried about people "forgetting" the OG) is that it might spur Konami on to finally "do something" about the availability of the Enhanced Edition... which would really, _really_ suck 💦

I love that the Groose theme will forever be the theme of bumbling.
im glad that the one thing that people keep in these SH2 compilations, whether its the old SBFP ones or woolie's playthrough, is the letter being _always_ included in full. it's integral
It's a proof that we do share some kind of internal hive mind, perhaps one day we will use to the fullest in the future.
I wish Woolie would playthrough Silent Hill 4. But I know Pat’s extreme dislike for the game probably convinced him to stay away from it to some extent
Yeah, it's not even bad and is pretty funny at times, would make for good content
@@Slukig i dunno. i was able to get through sh2 more or less fine and am doing ok on sh3. but sh4 i have died in the first station level four times because of those effing ghosts that stick to you like ffs
given how much he didnt like having to escort maria around, i imagine woolie *really* wouldnt care for the 2nd half of SH4 unfortunately
By silent hill 4 you mean homecoming or the Room?

woolie and reggie backlit like this look like the cold, ancient deities of silent hill judging me for my sins

this is a fantastic example of someones real first time impressions of SH2 that even the old LPs didn't get cuz pat was already coming at it as a "knowledgeable master", such as he is

Honestly i’m a little bummed that the bit of “Pat saving the play-through” isn’t in here lol
I think that’s only for SH3. Since at the time Woolie thought that 2 was the only game screwed by the HD collection and that the port of 3 was more or less fine.
That was for SH3. Woolie thought the HD collection was ok for 3 only for Pat to gently remind him that wasn't the case.

I think that the pin-ups in the Dog ending broke Woolie and Reggie more than the crippling themes of depression and death
Sometimes I think about how Death Stranding has all of the old Silent Hill plot elements that are confusing explained, like Mary and Maria being Bridget and Amelie or Mama/Lockne and the BT Baby being extremely similar to Heather Mason/Alessa and Cheryl
Honestly, parts of Death Stranding feel as though it was built off from the groundwork of the abandoned silent hills project. Like how all BT seem to focus on birth to a degree due to all BT being connected to an umbilical chord, which might have been an idea in place in Silent Hills for punishment monsters for the MC to be infant-themed in some way due to the talking fetus and how the character was implied to have killed his pregnant wife I think.
Like Kojima didnt want the idea to go to waste, or maybe it was something brought up that inspired Death Stranding later.
A true achievement in story telling. The jump from PS1 to PS2 for an unspoiled mind was universe shattering. The game will be 23 years at the time of remake release and still packs a punch.
