Nostalgia Front Engine Dragster! Houston, We Have A Problem…

- Today is the day we fire off Jimmy's real fine 409 small block Chevy!! Six months ago, 2 Hacks Garage started with an old top fuel dragster that we tore down, cut up, and tossed a majority of the parts it came with. Fast forward to today, much different right?! Many long days, nights, and weekends went into making the J&J Speed and Machine "Jumping Jack Flash" nostalgia front engine dragster what is today. Once everything is done and it is race ready, I will be making a video on what goes into building a slingshot dragster. But for now, let's stay focused on getting this high horsepower monster fired up for the first time!
First off, I would like to give a shout to my friend Brian from @brracing7861 for his help setting up my magneto and all his other help, much appreciated. Today is the day my friends. All we need to do is install the Vertex magneto, the Zoomie headers, add some methanol, hookup the battery pack, prime the fuel system, and ban... light it off! Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, technically it is, but..... not everything goes as planned, especially when using vintage speed parts.
Things did not go as planned, not even close. Houston, we have a problem. As you can see, it did light off and man did it sound good, what a cackle! It was truly music to my ears, until it quit. It was a long day of getting everything ready to go and to be honest, what a kick in the butt! But we are goal oriented, and we want to go drag racing really bad, so the show must go on and we will not give up! We discovered the hex key on the Hilborn mechanical pump broke, again, vintage speed part. So, we swapped everything over to Jimmy's spare fuel pump, put everything back together, and tried it again. No dice, the housing was cracked, and it leaked fuel everywhere. So, I dug out my Hilborn pump, not good, bad bearing and you can't find them anywhere! I am quickly finding out that some of these vintage parts are very hard to find parts for, so I have a lot of research to do and a ton of phone calls to make. One way or another, we will get this dragster done and we will go drag racing!
Right now, I have to remain focused on getting this to work but also have to come up with a plan B. What plan B is, well I am not saying at this time, cliffhanger right? I have no doubt we will get this figured out no matter what option we go with, and it will of course stay old school. Before you know it, we will be drag racing in style, and will be doing it with a fast car! Stay tuned, much more to come. Be there or be square!

I Have a Good One.
You got that right!!!
A lot of moving parts.. They all have to fit. All have to function.
I know it's frustrating. Hang in there. Love the Vidios. At THIS age? I hate it when I wake up and everything don't work as it should. LOL. You'll get it.
Oh we are so close!!! The fuel injection will have to wait, but we will get it!
Sounded awesome when she lit off !
But what are the odds on the dang bearing ??
Always somethin....👊🏼⛽️
Oh man, frustrating to say the least! But, we have a plan B and it’s still old school cool! Stay tuned my friend!
Alll parts including racing parts require constant inspection
Oh we do, always do. But sometimes things happen and you discover it when you don’t want to. No biggie, on to Plan B!!!
Dang… but does this mean the Plan B center squirters and a blower?
Carbs yes, blower, I wish!
Can that be welded and repaired?
🍟
Not how bad it is, really need a waterman pump
@@2HacksGarage Can you replace the bearing in the other pump?
😡
Oh I know! Time for plan B
