    Speaking from a subservient US client state, namely Australia, i can only say thank you and also bemoan the complete lack of people here who are of the calibre and courage of Jeffrey Sachs. We will surely just slavishly follow the US into yet another war, no matter how catastrophic and unnecessary. Just as soon as Washington snaps its fingers, we will say woof woof and come a runnin, yes sir Uncle Sam, three bags full sir.

      What are you talking about? The dude is a propaganda spreader. He completely omits the horror of the Soviet Union which is why NATO was pushed through. Can’t imagine what it was like to be a leader in the free world and to watch Russia starve their own people and execute anyone that stood against the Bulshivicks while stealing all the means of production from the industrialists that built it. Go talk to the people of Poland and hear what they had to say about this dude’s bias. They’d be livid.

      Finnish people joined NATO. They don't buy Sach's bullshit. Sachs is spouting purely Putin propaganda. Yanukovich was a criminal who stole money and fled to Russia in the middle of the night after his snipers murdered over 100 protesters. Ukraine wants to be a democratic country that joins the EU. Yanokovich refused to sign the EU association agreement and instead took money from Putin. Putin had the criminal Yanokovich waiting in Belarus Feb. 2022 so he could install him as his puppet in Ukraine after he destroyed the Zelensky government. This is a war of Imperial conquest, and for Sachs to blame it on NATO is absurd.

    What a beautiful speech by prof Sachs. Filled with wisdom, fairness, humanity, passion and conviction.
    As an American myself, I cannot agree more with prof Sachs on the ills of the US government and political elites. Since WWII, the US has brought nothing but destruction to this world. War after war, tens of millions of human beings murdered by the US in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc. etc., for no good reasons other than imposing the will of the empire on other countries. Covert and overt subversion of governments that the US deems unacceptable, one after another. Economic and military intimidation whenever and wherever it sees fit. Proxy wars wherever it is convenient. Next on the docket is to destroy China simply because China is peacefully pursuing its development and growth.
    This planet will have no peace as long as the US empire lives. Why on earth would Europe hitch a ride on this maddening train of destruction I will never understand!

      With the USA as the most powerful nation of the world, she was able to implement a world order based on rules and laws set by the United Nations. Under these world order, small and median size nations can exist and thrive . There have been peace generally speaking unless some countries provoked it such as the khmer Rouge of Cambodia, Somali prirates and the communist expansion of Vietnam in Indochina and Russia. Vietnam has since changed to accept some form of capitalism unlike North Korea who worked her people to death. Now that communist China is strong, she is starting to stir up troubles everywhere. You talked about some ills and destruction in the past. There is no perfect world if that is what you are idealising. You want to hear a talk where Russia and China are the most powerful nations and there is no USA around. You wont even have the chance to vent your anger much less post on the internet. Be thankful for the lesser evil. In biblical end-time there is no mention of USA but there is of China. If you live long enough, you will get to see a world dominated by China and maybe Russia. Then you will know what is the meaning of the word "peaceful coexistence and mutual respect" because both nations live by the laws of the jungle where the mighty own everything

      I suspect ww2 was not a good war. I suspect western oligarchs and US British governments installed Hitler. We were positioned to do so after germanys defeat and subjection after WW1. The holocaust was planned by the west with Zionists. Hitler carried it out. This was to make Palestine an Israel mandate. The British could no longer afford it and didn’t want to take the losses. They needed a proxy power to rule and divide the Arab world or Ottoman Empire and to control oil. America had a hand in the holocaust. It was not a good war. The only good war in history was the US civil war. Even if it had some sinister capitalist intentions. The Russian revolution was a good war too. What happened next does not take away form the necessity and righteousness.

      I think you are right on all points. Whatever you list, these are true words. Relations between the U.S. and Russia are in the basement. There is no diplomacy; neither from Western Europe nor from the USA. In my opinion, the Western Europeans are just puppets in the hands of the US neocon`s, who pursue their goals by the most brutal means. They do not care whether Ukraine goes to the dogs. The main thing is that they can weaken Russia in the long term. But will they succeed? It does not look like it. Germany, for example, is in a recession and Russia has economic growth. Ukraine will not win. Former United States Marine and weapons inspector Scott Ritter keeps repeating that the Ukrainian army has no chance of winning the war. Selenskyi and his generals dream about it and still demand more weapons. The country is completely dependent on the West. It feels like a drug junkie waiting for the next shot of weapons and lots of money. Yet NATO's arsenals of weapons and ammunition are empty and it will take more than ten years to replenish them. Even Jens Stoltenberg admits that. Nevertheless, he wants to continue supporting Ukraine. With what? With sticks and stones? We have again a fascist government in Germany, which openly and blatantly sympathizes with the Nazi regime in Kiev. This loyalty to the Nibelung will come back to haunt them. What was achieved with the sanctions? Nothing. They have hit back at the West with full force. America and the West as a whole are on the decline. They still believe they are strong and invulnerable, but the pillars of the rule-based world order are already being shaken. The U.S. dollar will lose its status as the world's reserve currency in the next decade, and the Chinese yuan will take its place.

That it armed and trained terrorists to topple a sitting government is of course not examined as problematic or as worthy to reflect on.
      How will the US respond to the loss of its hegemonic control over Syria?
      Commentator magazine argues that the Pentagon is now preparing a response whose details of course remain secret. It proposes placing US air jets near by Russian jets with the hope of provoking the Russian jets to shoot them down in order to provoke an international incident and a third world war. It argues that today as in the course of the first world war, US and Russian interests are that divergent that a world war seems inevitable, while advocating for it even as it claims with supposed innocence that such a war may just be something that has to take place.
      It is also possible that the US will seek to provide false intelligence on a given ISIS target at a particular area while the target happens to be a densely populated school or a hospital, in order to present Russia as a mass-killer of civilians (a position of moral superiority which it desperately seeks as they deflect attention from its own crimes).
      Additional scenarios may be encouraging wahabi terrorism inside the Russian Federation, orchestrating terrorist attacks in Moscow, providing Syrian rebels with missiles to bring down military jets or giving a green light to Kiev to launch a full attack on Donbass.
      The ideal incident would be one in which Russia is clearly presented as an aggressor in the US public opinion and as a situation in which an argument can be made that the US must attack Russia as a matter of self-defense.
      Americans can be easily deceived into believing that Russia attacked US soldiers out of the blue and therefore Russia should take extra precautions to avoid into such traps.”

    Sachs is brilliant as always. There are only a very few US intellectuals with the experience, knowledge and insight who are capable of speaking so forcefully and honestly about US foreign policy. But it is important to remember that US policy would be far more sensible and restrained were it not for the complicity of the European powers.
    As European I am absolutely disgusted by the European Union's craven subservience to the US war machine. And I'm confident that a great many European citizens are as perplexed and troubled as me by the masochistic position that EU nations have adopted in relation to the US.

Yanokovich refused to sign the association agreement with the EU. Ukrainians wanted to join the EU. Yanukovich had snipers murder over 100 protesters. After that, he fled to Russia in the dark of night. He ran. He was not overthrown. A democratic election followed. Ask yourself why Sachs is parroting Putin and lauding Yanokovich, a criminal who built himself a castle with Ukrainian money.

      @@williamc9578 :Why? I was referring to Sachs' blame. He blamed the US for the war. If so, then the US citizens must be fighting there. But why only the Ukraine citizens were fighting?

    • @williamc9578
      @williamc9578 Рік тому +11

      @@legpol The answer is really simple. The US (after Vietnam, and more recently, Afghanistan, which they lost) finds it very hard to have their soldiers involved in wars in faraway places. The US public has no appetite for their soldiers dying and coming home in bodybags. But in order to project US dominance and maintain hegemony, the US starts wars everywhere. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yugoslavia, Kosovo, and now Ukraine. So, they create the conditions where Ukrainians fight the Russians, starting with the Maidan coup in 2014. The history, Prof Sachs explained quite clearly in this seminar. I hope you managed to get it. US politicians have repeated said (you can google Lindsey Graham) Ukraine will fight to the last Ukrainian, we'll support them with weapons. The goal being to degrade the Russian military, and overthrow Putin if possible.

    • @legpol
      @legpol Рік тому

      @@williamc9578 Yes, here you agreed that there were Ukraineians willing to fight, even lose their lives. But their goal was to protect their own property. They did not want to degrade the Russian military, nor want to overthrow Mr. Putin. It was all your guess.
      All the wars you listed (Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yugoslavia, Kosovo had similar reasons, US was helping one side. To this side, US was their helper, 英雄,出手打報不平。To the other side, your side, the US "started" the wars. Your side happened to be China. But China was helped by the US in the war between China and Japan. Thereafter, China treated the US as their 英雄好漢。What a world of change we are in?

    Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said the United States has been at peace for only 16 of its 242 years as a nation, calling the country "the most warlike nation in the history of the world." From directly launching wars, backing proxy wars, stirring up inter-state hostilities to engineering "color revolutions," the United States has been involved in most of the major warfares or military conflicts since WWII.
    These wars and conflicts have devastated the invaded countries, killed millions of civilians, and displaced tens of millions.William Jones, Washington bureau chief of the U.S. publication Executive Intelligence Review, has said that Russia's main concern about NATO eastward expansion has never been heeded by the United States, "which is only interested in maintaining its hegemonic status in Europe, and which has been steadily retreating from that collaborative policy which the West committed itself to after the Cold War."
