That alto solo in the second movement makes me float everytime
one of my all time favorites! I'll be featuring this on my wind band score study series this fall
Any chance we might still see this one, Anthony?
@ it’s almost time, I’m working down a list and doing the ones I can afford to do at the patronage level I’m at. I’m getting $170/month and that’s not even enough to cover one score study video. So once I get some more patronage I can tackle some of these bigger multi movement works.
@@AnthonyOTooleMusic that's absolutely fair enough. Do you have any solid numbers for when this might be back on the table, or is it more just until you're generally feeling more comfortable?
@ if I can get up to $250-300 a month I can validate spending the time.
It took me a few years to come around to liking it, but I really enjoy this work now.
I have been wanting to see the score for this for years, thanks George!
It's a great piece - share it far and wide!

Great upload, thank you so much for sharing all of these wonderful pieces!
I love this piece. My current project is also titled Sinfonietta and it has some loose ties to this piece actually. It's such a great band piece that really deserves to get played more often.
That's a very fine work! Thanks!
9:37 letter J...horn solo at K
If it were typical for alto clarinet parts to be as independent as this one (and I don't just mean the solo), maybe band directors wouldn't have decided that the instrument is dispensable.
What a fine performance. What was your source for this recording? I was unaware of the Garner recording of this piece.
I hate to be that person, but is there a page missing around 2:12 ?
Unfortunately yes... it happens sometimes!
@@GNGianopoulos If you want, I've got a scan of that page?
3:50 why... why would somebody do this to us? (Clarinet player here)
I believe it was actually an inside joke with either one of the commissioners or the premiering band. Something about Dahl overhearing a rehearsal of some other piece with a similar section (by Gershwin, if memory serves) and the clarinet section messing it up *royally* enough that everyone thought it was hilarious
(Don't ask me for sources, I've got no idea where the hell I heard that 😅)

Pray for the clarinets, that looks and sounds like death.
Trust me it is. I play both second clarinet and Alto Clarinet solo
