Tie on STRING NOCKS

- This week, Clay Hayes shows how to tie two different bow string nocks. One is adjustable, allowing for the nock point to be moved up and down to achieve good arrow flight. The other is fixed. These tie on string nocks will work for any traditional bow, longbow, recurve, or selfbow.

Wow, that's awesome. I've seen other videos from target shoots and seemed to work but it took some time... The method for a fixed nock you just showed is so much quicker! Also with possibly easier to do in the field. Thanks for another great video. I feel myself literaly improving my owe skills because of the videos you put out... Just awesome

i have recently got the courage to upload a video of myself shooting a round of arrows in hopes of getting some constructive criticism, or any possible tips or pointers. i have never even shot a bow until last december and went straight with a recurve. your videos along with the other great content creators have been so helpful getting to me where i am today. if you get a chance to possibly watch it. it is short and i just shoot 9 arrows but anything would be so awesome... regardless thank you so much for the awesome free content you put out!!

Hey man, I'm a newb bow owner and shooter and this helped me a lot. My bow did not come with the nock, and (withy the help of your video) I was able to use a sliver of butcher's twine to tie up a temporary nock to get me started. Thanks!!

Hey Clay, I have watched your videos for a while now and followed you during your time on alone. I really enjoy the skills that you share along with the love and admiration of the outdoors. I am a beginner in archery ( everyone starts somewhere) although my job is a deckhand with Canadian Coast Guard. the second method you show was a common whipping ( which you probably already knew) we use quite a bit to finish of splicing rope. I just thought that was really neat and never expected it to be used for both rope work in the marine industry and archery. Anyways keep em coming and thanks for all the tips! Cheers

I have been trying this for like 50 times now. Result is always a mess. No idea what you are doing exactly. Can you do a version with ropes so one can see what you are actually doing?

How do you remove them without cutting the bow string?

GM Clay; Question: My serving material is Mono type string. It looks as if you use a braided type material like in the bow string itself to tie the nock points. It makes sense to me that the nock point string material should be braided not the mono type material as in string serving. Are my observations correct?

Only if the nock is a little loose on the serving.
Well, this was rather a bitch at first. For one, coating the string w/beeswax helped a lot- then found I couldn't move the non-adjustable version unless I put a sliver of wood under the string, even untightened. But then it worked. 🔄👌

A drop of superglue will fix it.
Isnt the first knot a constrictor knot?
I tried this but when lacing the one end through, it automatically made an overhand knot. I think it just depends on the exact orientation of the ends inside the loops. :)

I would really appreciate it, I shoot both a traditional osage bow and a laminated longbow, and I don't know how the nock point influences Arrow flight and how I should adjust with non optimal flight...

Then see what it does paper tuning. Gonna get that big ole RIP because the yor essentially "hotrodding" the front if your arrow. Meaning it's not squared up any more

I think you meant “tie-on string nocks”, with the hyphen. Otherwise you are referring to a tie... on the string nocks.
