190 is one of my favorites. Cannons, speed and roll rate. Everything I want in a plane
Saw Doras in the title. Had to watch. There might be better planes out there, but given a choice, I'll fly out a Dora over anything else in the sim. Well flown Herr Fishyyy.

At 0:29 I thought to myself, 'that's a hell of a lot of bogies', until I saw that it was only flak bursts; As for 0:33 all I can say is 'that, my lads, is why you NEVER go head on against ANY mark of FW'.
Not doing head ons seems like a good idea in general. The Spit IX has better and more guns then the Dora, though, no? :P
@@Fishyyy The fact that the D9 has a liquid cooled engine and fewer cannons than the A8 should make me question my own comments. Now...IF I had an A8 and it's full suite of 4 20mms...that's a different matter.

Yeap, the lack of high octane fuel lead the LW to search for alternatives. The result was the use of Nitrous Oxide with Methanol Water (GM1 plus MW-50) to increase power at high altitude albeit only for brief minutes.
The 35 liter displacement Junkers Jumo 213 was destined to bombers and had a mediocre performance to be used in fighters - therefore the MW-50 usage. Power raised to 2200 hp in just a few seconds enabling the german pilots to challenge Allied planes at 25000 feet and above - but too late for them.

That's the first time i heard someone claimed the 213 was medicore for fighters.

@@LeopardIL2 Acceleration is higher than the P-51. I bet it came from American test pilots, they hated German planes in general, German and British loved it.
@@23GreyFox No my friend, stated from german pilots themselves after their first clash with Mustangs at low altitude. The Packard Merlin engine didn´t need any additional power system - they used 120 octane fuel! German synthetic crap was 80 octane therefore the massive engines displacement of over 35 liters.
Kurt Tank was requested for better performance from the Anton, and the BMW reached it´s best possible performance. The DB was entirely to the Messerchmitts the only option was the Junkers available from the Bombers cancelled production.
@@LeopardIL2 Strange, my books from the 80s and 90s state the opposite. The D9 was a match for every allied fighter at the end of the war.

Fishyyy if you want to avoid damage and getting shot down remember these rules from the dicta boelcke rule 1 keep the sun behind you to conceal your position rule 2 follow through on an attack rule 4 keep your eye on your opponent watch out for tricks and rule 6 if attacked turn into your opponent put him on the defensive
I have il2 great battles and il2 1946. Despite the graphical differences, il2 1946 beats by a long shot a 80€ per module game like great battles in terms of gameplay and AI. Even mission editor is easier to create mission in il2 1946 I would say that even damage model looks more immersive in il2 1946. Incredible for a sim released in 2004.
I wish IL-2 combined the best of both games.
@@Ruweisat I'm with you on that; I had IL2'46 but I was thinking about getting the great battles modules, especially when they came out with bodenplatte and Normandy. However, I am still unsure, given I only fly 'off line' and I rely on my autopilot for take offs and landings. I worried Id have to actually fly
IL2 box is cheap in sales so that is no argument t.b.h.

Whenever fighter formations break up prior to an engagement, I often see the left planes turn to the right and the right planes turn to the left. No matter if WWII or modern sims. Does that have a reason? It does bring the risk of planes colliding after all.
I don't know about real life, I think usually in real life they go opposite directions. The AI in this game is a bit whack so that would be my explanation for the case above.
This game seems to be an incredibly bad case of mid air collisions, I've never seen so many
My guess is they're all turning to engage the player, who is usually behind the middle of the pack, therefore they all turn towards the middle.

Are you using extra mods with textures for the airplanes or just Ypack?.
This that and the other. But mainly Graphics Extender and I enabled Barnesy's 190 3d overhaul in JSGME, but that technically is part of ypack.
You know what I just noticed... IL-2 1946 looks better than IL-2 Sturmovik Battle Of Stalingrad imo

@@Fishyyy ah, no worries, Fishyyy, limits of AI and such, heheh ^w^ wasn't sure if they were ground striking or just derping out
There is ai flak avoidance, but it's just a little bit of weaving their wings left and right. They should either engage the AA or try and get the f outta there ... but nope. I just set their waypoints to where the fight with the spitfires would be, so that they eventually also show up.
@@Fishyyy Much a I love "46", the damage models annoy me; I know aircraft shouldn't break apart like that==at least not according the gun camera footage I've seen from all sides.
I was pretty surprised when it just blew up. Have not looked at any damage models apart from the B-17. But those are tough as old boots after our treatment.

You can't. Technically you can - with certain mods -, but just don't bother.
