Pump action .22s are wonderful. I have the quartet of Winchester 1890s, a few Marlins, and a Colt in .22 long. The Colt is a very nice rifle with its tapered octagonal barrel, it looks more refined.
I have a nice Colt with a long 26" hex barrel and pedigree papers from Colt. Nice little .22. There is certainly some age on it (it's only 121 years old), but the Colt stamp is still visible and overall, it's in good condition. Beautiful piece. The only thing which is not original is the dust cover. Only reproductions were to be found at the time when I bought it. I suspect it was knocked over at some point in it's history and the groove the original dust cover slid through was damaged a little bit so the dust cover did not slide easily, thus the cover was removed and lost over time. The groove was (clumsily) cleaned up so a cover could be reinstalled. Not the best work cosmetic wise, but functional. If I ever get down your way, I will bring it with me and maybe we can talk about what I should do with/to it. Assuming Oregon doesn't throw me and the Colt in jail somewhere. Hopefully 114 is dead for good. Thanks for the shows.
Thanks for another good video on a rifle that I have never seen anybody shoot before I’ve seen the the bigger ones Colt lightnings and The mediums but never those 22s. That’s very interesting how they load. Oh yes and I was very glad to see your video on that gun control measure that was plaguing you guys in Oregon I meant to comment but I forgot.
Unless they are the "high velocity" 22 Long, I'd imagine by the time the bullet reaches the end of those barrels, it's slowing down from a peak velocity. CCI makes a 22 Long 29gr rated at 1215 fps and a 29gr rated at 710 fps. CCI makes a 22 Short 29gr rated at 1080 fps and a 29gr rated at 710 fps. There's more 22 Short on the market by far, than 22 Long. I think CCI might be the only maker of 22 Long left.
They'll chamber, but they won't feed. The opening in the receiver for the carrier isn't long enough to accept a 22 LR cartridge. The receiver would have to be reconfigured. If it were simple, I'm sure Colt would have done it.
Nice rifles, that's for sure! I had a Colt Lightning in .22 Long which was pretty worn and the forearm had been replaced. Over the years I have seen several others with split or replaced forearms so that was kind of a weak spot. Annie Oakley could lay those bullets right in there!
Yes. Cracked forearms are a problem with all Lightnings, particularly the small frames. Lots of reproductions available, but hard to match the finish on the stocks.
Great video very educational. I've always wanted a Pump 22 caliber. Does anyone make a new/modern version of them? Btw, You are very blessed that your wife likes guns and shares your passion. Mine does not like guns period. lol. Thumbs up to your video.
Amazing video. You and Mrs. Cinnabar make a good team. I am like ya'll in that I love the lightning rifles. I shoot a replica Lightning in a non-historical caliber (45 colt) as my cowboy action rifle. The others in our group are waiting for it to jam or worse during a match however it has been very reliable. I think it is all in the rhythm of working the action. I opine some people try to run them too fast. I always learn something from your videos. I imagine those lightning .22's put some meat on the table during the depression.
Found one box of 100 shorts a couple years ago, think cci actually. I use only use them once in a while in my single shot. Usually use LR so they're lasting a while.
(Mike Cullum) How does a guy get his wife into gun collecting?!!!! I want to learn that trick! ( If you think guns are expensive take a look at what modern computerized sewing equipment cost)! Ouch!!! Look forward to your videos every week, we do love the same guns it seems.
Haha! Her dad and granddad were collectors. They're the ones who are responsible for getting me involved in collecting 30 years ago. I shoot many of the guns they collected on this channel. I have admit that I married well. 😎
I have a Colt small frame that I got with a Colt purchase I made years ago. It needed a little gunsmith care. The original owner used 3in1 oil that turned to paste. It was cleaned and checked out. It's a gunsafe queen. And I'm thinking it's time It finds a home. I've had it on a friend's table at a couple gunshows. It draws attention but nobody wants to pay a fair price. And no $125 isn't a fair price for a working Colt pump.

That depends on your definition of "shooter". Lots of different opinions on that subject. Some would say it's a firearm that is safe and accurate. Others consider a shooter as a firearm that no longer has collector value, but still shoots, etc, etc, etc.
Sam doesn't have a website but sells parts on EBAY and Gunbroker. Our website: WWW.CinnabarGunworks.com. We don't sell parts, though. Unfortunately, I get so many requests for gunsmithing help from afar that I don't always have time to respond. I wish I could.
The lovely lady looked a lot happier after she got to shoot her nice rifles.
Haha! Shooting always puts her in a good mood.😁 She's just not real fond of being on camera.
@@thecinnabar8442had the boss along for this video I noticed gotta keep them happy it makes the life much much easier I've found 😂

Great Video Mark! Looks like you both had some fun shooting...that's what it is all about!
Has Mrs. Cinnabar been watching Santee at Arizona Ghostriders? Hah, he seldom gets to say his own outro.

Neat little rifles that I didn't know existed. Thanks for the video.

Awesome video ! Great shooting Erin ! Love those rifles !
Nice kit. Thanks for sharing. Have a good New Year. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
It was nice to see your wife do the shooting of these fine old pump actions. 😅

I'm pretty sure Remington made some in the 60's to mimic their hunting rifles. Fieldmaster I think.

Reminds me sum what of the Winchester pump action 22’s
I just bought one of these yesterday
Havent seen a box of longs in 30+ years, other than cb longs.
Those were CB longs. That's why they are so quiet. A quick look at ammoseek.com shows a lot more 22 long ammo available than I would have guessed.

Mark, hope you had a good turkey day ! Why can't you rechamber one of those to a long rifle maybe a rough shape gun with little value ??

That would be very cool indeed! Maybe we can get a petition going to convince Uberti to make one. 😃

What can I do for a rifle
Enjoy your videos.
Question , have you ever been to south Carolina ?
Any update on the pistol grip that you were waiting for the letter on?
What determines, on an older rifle, whether it is a shooter or not?
That depends on your definition of "shooter". Lots of different opinions on that subject. Some would say it's a firearm that is safe and accurate. Others consider a shooter as a firearm that no longer has collector value, but still shoots, etc, etc, etc.
Can you post link to your site and sam simmons? Doing a preservation for a friend, likely will need some pieces parts and guidance. Thanks, Al H.
