your diff got auto lock ( 25% ) , so you need 75W140 , just checked for mine as well . if there's an S written on the diff as the first letter before the number then it got auto lock and yours got it ! did hours of research to found this lol btw thanks for the video it was very helpfull :)
Hi Samuel. Great videos by the way. I read over the internet that some people used 75w140 for the LSD Differential on the 540's. I need to change mine, so that is why I'm asking. Keep the channel forever alive!.
Very Helpful! Is it possible to show the jack and jacking points under the car? Most places I've looked are inconsistent about exactly where to place the jack stands and jack. Thanks!
For guys with no pressure filler (like me) use a syringe normally 500ml you will siphon from the bottle and unsiphon (you understand lol) to the diff. Easy as in the video. Peace.
Hey mate! This car is an automatic and recently had the oil changed... but I'm doing a manual conversion awfully soon ;) I'll make a video about changing the manual gearbox oil when it's all set up!
I see a lot of ppl looking for differential for BMW e34. And of different ratios. Can someone explain to me what's the effect of a bad differential. And how do you know if you've got a bad one. Tq
Hey man! A bad differential will make a lot of noise while driving (whining, chattering, whirring etc.) as far as I know. If it's a limited slip differential it may not 'lock up' properly and make noise when under a lot of load. Also, a really leaky differential is never good and you should fix the seals as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the bearings and gears inside it (woops, I left mine for ages haha).
What happens if I still have the original factory diff oil. That shit looks like grease havent changed it yet.. my diff shakes even tho i replaced a worn bearing.. could this be the problem?
+xl-CalixLove-lx That's probably not the best thing ever haha... I'd start by changing out the oil, clean it out the best you can. If it's shaking then there's probably something else going on though. Certain it's your diff that's shaking and not the driveshaft, i.e a worn universal joint or center bearing or guibo?
thank you man. youve done a service to the bmw community with these videos
its 2020 and your videos are still very helpful
