***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I so love your UA-cam videos! I heard you say something about how UA-cam isn't as great as IG for income and time spent, and I was like "NO, Kate, please don't every stop making the UA-cam videos!" These are totally a staple part of my week. I learn so much from you and enjoy seeing how your life works as I'm totally new to this lifestyle and needing a regular confidence boost along with ideas for making things all flow.

For those confused, Smarties in Canada are a chocolate candy kind of like M&Ms. In the US ours are a chalky sour candy.

I've been making cheese for over 15 years. Buy yourself high quality flour sack cloth it's reusable and works amazingly (no fibers to pick out) for cheese making. We farm 160 acres with Jersey cows in Northern BC we are a 12 hour drive farther north LOL. Keep up the good work. Best life for the kids. Mrs. G

Another great video! You are so inspiring!
Norwegians are mostly atheists but Sunday is still mostly like a resting day by rule. We should not move the lawn or use noisy tools outside if living in a neighborhood, though more and more people do this as well. Farmers still harvest and use tractors etc on Sundays as Norway struggle with weather an they have to harvest if its possible.
When I had my crazy office job I found so much peace and quiet in baking/dinnerday on Sundays, prepping food for the next week. I also really found peace and quiet working in the garden. Resting is not about sitting down for me. I enjoy resting my head as i dig my fingers in soil or sourdough:)
    Merry Christmas🎄

Also, if you don't mind sharing what your monthly food budget is with a family of seven and what you are saving by growing food at home...maybe that's a whole other video, but I'd love to hear about this if you can share.

Food purchasing is a very annual thing for us…last month I spent only $250 on food but then in summer I might spend $2000 in a month on bulk produce and other things. What I can tell you is what we dont buy- 99% of our meat or dairy, and we grow or buy bulk and preserve at least 50% of our fruit and 75% of our vegetables. I spent $2000 on a bulk grain order a year ago, so I’ve hardly had to buy anything for baking bread and such since then and won't for probably another year. At this point we choose 7th day Sabbath rest, we no longer buy or sell (no business nor making others work), we enjoy family, studying Yahs Word, rest and enjoy Yahs abundance!! Since practicing Sabbath rest our family has been blessed, more peace and joy. My marriage has been blessed as well!

Praise Yah! Amen! Once we read our Bible careful we saw the Sabbath is a specific day (7th day; Saturday) and Yah commands us to rest. We do not work, buy, sell
Or trade, bake etc. It is to be a set apart(holy) day! We are so so blessed to have this day!
Kate, it’s great you realize there’s a Sabbath. That’s a start we are all in different places on the path what matters is where we finish and if we are obedient will with what we know.

Wow that was a lot of excusing for how you live your life. I'd say people who critize you for how you live your faith are no Christians. Live and let live. Love your fellow man.

Apple weather is not good. 😣 I have had it say one thing for a week, then as soon as it comes to the day I made plans, poof. Something different. Not reliable at all, it can only tell you the current weather. 😂

I could write so many comments about this video. I never knew cheese making was such a science and art until watching your videos. I enjoy all of your videos. If we had our own bees I might do the honey and lemon. But honey is very expensive here. Your comment on the Sabbath made me think a viewer was very forthright with their opinions. I have never been good about observing a resting Sabbath even though I know it is Biblical. I don't enjoy sitting around all day after church.

I tell you if there’s one thing that I have taken away from your videos(but way more than one thing) is do not get a cow until you have all sorts of things ready. And a real reality check about how you are going to be tied to that cow big-time! I know the Lord is giving us a really beautiful farm in Florida. I am definitely going to get a couple milking cows and some goats. But we are in a position where I will also be hiring a on property employee. One because we’ll be living every other week in South Carolina and Florida the next. So obviously I couldn’t get a milking cow until then. But now I’m like yeah they are going to suck the life out of us those milking cows.😂 But in a good way also!

Hahahaha it is somewhat true that they can take up a huge amount of time, but more so because it's every day of the year! We get in a rhythm and it just feels part of life for us. It will be interesting for you to have a week on/week off situation. You will definitely need that property employee. I'm glad I've been able to impart the reality of owning a milk cow, but hopefully also the joy of it too. All the bests for your new adventures in farming!
(Sorry for the delay in my response.)

FYI The Sabbath is Saturday. YHWH told us to observe the Sabbath on the last day of the week not the first. Celebrating it on Sunday is a sin.

Im going to throw this out there because I have a contamination phobia. If your family is not feeling well, why are you making cheese? Or anything that has a process to it? Just asking, no judgment.

Valid question- i dont do any food prep beyond what we eat that day and especially not for others if im sick or someone else in house has bad virus. The unwell people were not contagious. I was many days post stomach bug just tired from not sleeping. Among other things for other people, Marius inhaled old insulation and it made him very sick.
