    ***** About Venison for Dinner *****
    Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
    We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

    Good morning Kate! Congratulations on the 👶 baby news, that's so exciting 😊❤.... you all keep so busy the days must fly by! Someone likes to be on camera with you, lol ... I'm so amazed at how you and Marius and the kids pull together and sustain a more natural, basic, beautiful and healthy lifestyle, and all of your animals. Geez... its so lovely... and I think for example, the power is out here, not sure why, but I know some folks around here won't know what to do with themselves for food, activities etc... you and your family's lifestyle prove that we can do it... its a mindset... I'm amazed and really enjoy the videos, thanks so much for letting us in and sharing... Peace and Grace to you and yours ❤❤❤

    Cow Cysts: Dr. Brownstein's interview on YT with Dr.KenDBerryMD recently released talked about iodine supplementation in cows with cysts as well as humans. It's worth looking into. I have no experience in your arena, just passing along possibly helpful info. Adding iodine to my body has made a world of difference and I've read (and own) Dr. Brownstein's Iodine book along with Lynn Farrow's book The Iodine Crisis - both books for humans.

    Good morning Kate! You have helped me make the jump in buying a Jersey Heifer. Long story short, I was terrified in the beginning (June 2023), now I love her and her heifer calf. I love your honesty, because I deal with poopy udders and stalls. I use about 4-5 rags to clean Shawna. I thought I was doing something wrong but now I know this is normal 😁

    I make my own yogurt in a different way but it turns out thick and creamy and tangy and then I get to have all of the whey to use for many things. It is the easiest and cheapest thing to make.

      I don't have any experience with Guernsey or Brown Swiss on their own. I am a big fan of crosses because of hardiness as well as looking to the maternal genes.

    That is one thing I miss very much is fresh cow's milk my sister used to get it years ago from a farm they couldn't sell it so they put a donation jar out for cow's feed and everybody knew how much the donation was supposed to be for Could still buy it milk in the store is a crappy I like drinking cream ever since I owned the specialty coffee house we had lots of cream and lots of whole milk because we made our coffees cappuccinos and lattes with whole milk instead of 2% like most people harder to get the foam but taste way better so when I get cream that's what I drink for milk

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  6 місяців тому

      So it sounds like you drink the good stuff! I love the fresh cream in my coffee too. Feels like a specialty coffee house treat.

    I’ve heard of a woman that saves her whey from the feta cheese, adds salt to the leftover whey to make brine & then adds the cheese back. Idk if that will help it from melting into the brine, though.

    Yummy dairy! I need to figure out the quark. I make lots of yogurt.I’m getting about two gallons of milk from pretty much four dairy goats one milking. Yesterday I made my first cheese of the season, a farmhouse cheddar. I made Gouda and cheddar last year and didn’t like the Gouda. I’m really a beginner and will make this cheese a few more times before trying something else. Love watching your vids!

    Your quark looks good. Is your clabber mild flavored? I always think of clabber as really tangy. So does your quark turn out mild tasting like cream cheese or more tangy is what I guess I'm getting at.

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  7 місяців тому +1

      yes clabber culture vs clabbered milk is totally different. clabber culture is maintained in such a way that its very mild. My quark is very mild but if you left it to culture longer it would be tangier, you have control there.
