- Hiking in Alaska is a must-do if you're visiting the state! In this video, we'll start outside of Anchorage for a quick tour of the Flat Top Ridge Trail. Then take you on a hike along the Denali National Park Savage River Trail and the Mt. Healy trail. Along the way, we'll stop at a birch syrup factory in Talkeetna to taste the delicious syrup. I learned some valuable lessons from the owners. Hopefully mine will be much better next year.
This video is a great way to explore Denali National Park and the Mt. Healy and Savage River Trails. Not only will you see some of the most beautiful scenery in Alaska, but you'll also get to try some of the state's most famous local specialties. Remember to bring your camera!

It really is!

Thank you, I will
Amazing adventure! Thanks for taking us along. Beautiful views!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
What an awesome experience to share with your family. So happy for you all.
For sure. I was telling my kids how fortunate we are to be able to hike and be healthy enough to do this.
This was beautiful. Thank you for sharing .
You are so welcome
What a beautiful family!!! As always, I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing! 🥰
Thank you so much 🤗
Love to go back there, did an Alaskan cruise then a land tour through Alaska and Yukon. It was spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! I want to go back already!
AWESOME Vlog this week Tre!!! Thanks for taking us along!!
Thanks Kevin. Two more episodes coming soon. Each a different area of alaska
Thanks for sharing your vacation, beautiful scenery. Hope it was everything you expected.
It was!
Terry, you have a lovely family. Loved the views from top of the mountains. How someone could see all this beauty and not see Gods handy work is beyond me. Stay safe and enjoy this amazing place.
I agree! Makes you feel pretty small when you see the vastness of that area.
Just Wow!
It was pretty cool. And every new part of the state felt like a different state.
I worked at the McKinley Park Hotel the summer of '74. I hiked the Mt Healy overlook trail many times when I was there. When I look at the current maps almost everything in that area has changed. The old hotel used to be where the parking lot for the visitors center is now. The Mt Healy trail looks better than it did 49 years ago however the view from the top looks about the same. Thanks for the video Terry!
Oh cool! Must have been neat to see it again even if through the eyes of someone else. There is something about Alaska. I can't put my finger on it but it draws you in some way............Now I want to go back.,
❤😊❤😊❤😊 Amazing!!!! So interesting about the birch syrup!
Right?! Hopefully it goes better this spring
@@TRERUNSWILD I hope so too!!!!
Alaska is fabulous! Been there several times and ready to go back!
Me, too! I couldn't get over how you could be in the mountains and wilderness one day and at the ocean the next.
Alaska is so beautiful thankyou for sharing your travels here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Hi Mike. Glad you enjoyed. thanks for coming with us!
Wow Terry!!! What a awesome video and Alaska is really pretty place. Looks like you are having a great time. Thanks for bringing us along with you really enjoyed it. Take care be safe buddy.
You are very welcome. I'm glad you liked it because there is two more episodes!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thanks for taking us along. What amazing views. Wish you would have included pics of the wildlife. Also wish that you had taken a night imagine of the sky; that is one of my favorite things. Beautiful family. Safe travels 💕
I was surprised at not seeing more wildlife. The stuff in Denali was out of the window of a bus at a distance so not great content. Others, like a wolf was running across the road. Or 30 seconds of a bear running into the woods on a trail. I was surprised we didn't see more actually.
Hello buddy on a beautiful, hot September day. It is now with me on the thermometer +25 degrees. I'm now watching your exploits of climbing the beautiful rocky slopes of Alaska. The landscape is shocking, the views are beautiful. I, rather now, having a fear of heights, would rather not dare to make such a journey. Once, some49 years ago, I loved hiking in our Tatras and Pieniny. Now it just wanders with you virtually. I wish you even more beautiful experiences in Alaska and a lot of health.🥰🥰
I'm glad to take you along with me. Even if just in the thoughts. That is why I'm trying to do these things now when I'm healthy and can. The day will come soon enough when I will watch others and turn to memories of my adventures in the "good old days"
What a terrific trip! Thanks for taking us along! Love that you had a chance to taste the Birch syrups....you'll be ready to make your own batch come early Spring! Cheers to you and your family from Canada 🇨🇦
I was really surprised that it tasted decent. Now I'm excited to try again
@@TRERUNSWILD can't wait for the video...I'm sensing a side hustle?
@@susanadams-wauro6716 Always gotta keep options open!
Alaska is my favorite place in the world (and I’ve seen quite a bit of the world). Was there in 2019 & 2021. Stayed at the end of the park road ( mile 93 ) at Camp Denali before the road collapsed. Talkeetna, Seward, Kenai and Homer…. Can’t wait to go back!!!
We never made it to Homer. Maybe next time. It's hard to pick a favorite because they are so different. I did not love Anchorage though. Too much big city for me. Wow, that's a long drive to the end of the Denali road!
@@TRERUNSWILD how far back did you go in the Denali road?
@@marrunslow3815 we stopped at the big bridge. The road was closed after that due to the rock slide. I think it was mile 43?
Thanks for the beautiful video! I haven’t been to Alaska so it was beautiful to see your trip! 🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Glad you joined us!
Amazing scenery! Such an awesome adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my gosh I'm so excited you did this.
It's like Easter Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled into one.
I know I'm going to love this and I think you're amazing for doing this.
I'm so excited you got to go.
🤜🤛
Part 2 and 3 yet to come!
@@TRERUNSWILD2 more.
🤯🤯 my brains going to have an overload.
Alaska is my number one bucket list item.
Living in the United States I couldn't be further in Maine.
Maybe someday.
Can't wait Terry I hope you had a great time
OMG! You were giving me a heart attack climbing those mountain mountains 🙀
Alaska does look beautiful though, great photography ❤️✌🏻🏔️
It;s a mazing! I'd like to go back. There is just so much to see
Incredible up there Tre. We were up there early August visiting my son in the Military for the week in early August. We stayed in North Pole just outside of Fairbanks and went down to Denali for a few days and did the ATV tour. We stayed at the Grande Denali hotel and did the 49th state brewery for Dinner. Incredible time! Would do it again. Long plane ride from Massachusetts but definitely going again. Hunting and fishing next time I go for sure. Glad you had fun.
Hi! Sounds like you had a great trip. I hope your son is well. We did the 49th brewery as well and fished the Talkeetna river from shore with $25 rented pole. It was so much fun. That's all in the second video coming soon. I'd like to go, too! There is so much to see.
Beautiful country. Reminds me of RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park). All this hiking makes me tired just watching you! Lol
Yes! I thought the same about Rocky! Just on a bigger scale.
Alaska wild harvest for the win! Birch sap one more try! 🎉🎉❤ Thank you for the video!
Yep! Might as well since all the equipment will be out anyway. I have hop now at least
@@TRERUNSWILD told you it was good. LOL! Do not forget about beech trees also. The earlier the sap the more the sugar content is there. Good luck!
Wow
Of course photos NEVER do it justice. It's ten times better in person
🙏❤️👍👍👍
Always thankful for your support Sandy!
looks like you are having a great trip!
It was really good. Nice weather.....we got lucky.
Thanks so much for sharing ! I’ve been anxiously waiting ! When northern state dwellers are puckered …. Things that make you go …. WTF. LOL. take care T
Thanks bud! Hope all is well with you!
Evenin 👊😎👍
Buenos noches
Hey Gerry!
Great vid. nice work
Thanks for the visit
Great trip! Looks like you all had a wonderful time. I have to admit my tummy got a little queasy watching y’all climb! 😳
A friend of ours recently rode his motor motorcycle from NC to Alaska. He sure met some interesting people along the way! And saw gorgeous scenery.
P.S. I have always wanted to pan for gold! 😂
UGH! That is a LONG ride! And dangerous with all the wildlife all those miles. I tried a couple of quick spots but finally got some gold at a pay place where you could pan all you wanted out of a pile they dumped from a mine.
😂love your trail buddy
Ol' Gary is quite the runner.
He is! 😁
👍
Thanks for coming along with us!
Hey my friend, outstanding vlog, thanks for sharing and taking us all along your family adventure. Is Hunter part ibex? 😅 You’re really keeping up with the yutes. 😊 What an amazing area to explore. No bears! Be well and stay safe. Your mate, Puck.
That boy is something that's for sure. He ran his first marathon at 16 or 17 and ran a 50 mile ultra marathon a couple years later.
@@TRERUNSWILD wow iron man chip of the old block. ;-)
So apparently Birch syrup is far more fickle.
It's difficult because if I remember you had cold temperatures warm temperatures cold temperatures warm temperatures so it wasn't conducive to collecting.
It sounds like you boiled too late in the season plus you cooked it too hot.
Fascinating
Birch beer is amazing it has kind of a cream soda, wintermint root beer taste
The temperature variance was mostly for the maple. I think I only tapped the birch a couple days. And yes I finished at 217 degrees and should not go above 200. I'm going to have to figure out how to know when they FIRST start running. Sounds like somewhat precise.
Huh. Never had had it. Sounds interesting
Awesome thank you for taking us along on your trip. Thats is some good livin right there! Did you get any fishing time in ?
Yes, sir...... Coming right up.........stay tuned
Nice but I could never hike those..I need handrails..after a head injury it left me with poor balance.
My son loves the high stuff. Me......not so much
I gotta start jogging. I was tired just watching
LOL!
