    My wife and I visited Talkeetna in the summer of 2014. It was the highlight of the trip for me, and seemed to be the most realistic of what I expected Alaska to be. It resembles the small town depicted on the TV series, Northern Exposure. From what I have heard, Talkeetna was originally supposed to be the town where they filmed, but it was too cold in the winter for the actors. I also heard the actors were based on real people who lived in Talkeetna. I could see myself spending summers there.

    • @ArtWeThereYet
      @ArtWeThereYet  9 місяців тому

      Oh that's so interesting - we didn't know that about Talkeetna originally being the filming location for that series. You know what...you might be pleasantly surprised to find that you would love Talkeetna even MORE in the wintertime. That's when the Sheldon Arts Hanger really gets cooking with awesome event after awesome event. Everything quiets down and folks just hunker in and focus on their projects and community building. And there's nothing like a night at the Fairview, band playing away, everyone dancing, as feet of snow build up outside...

    My life-partner and I have been following you for the past 6 months. Thank you so much for your videos! We love travelling ourselves, but with the war here in Israel (and having to take care of our geriatric parents), our options are very limited. Your channel enables us to live out our roaming fantasies vicariously and one day, perhaps we might bump into each other somewhere on planet Earth!

    • @ArtWeThereYet

      This really means the world to both us to read this kind message. We're so happy you stumbled upon the channel, that you both are on the journey with us, and that it is providing some escape in tough times. What you are doing for your parents is so important and a blessing to them. Stay safe over there. Sending a huge hug from Alaska. ❤️

    Thank. You for filling in the locations I was not able to visit while a graduate student at the university of Alaska in College, Alaska back in 1965-67. I was working on my masters degree in Geology at the university which is just outside of Fairbanks. We heard allot about the area of this video. Even back in the mid 60s it was known for the dog racing and a good place t visit and experience “Old Alaska”. Back then there were allot of abandoned villages that had been apart of the gold mining and dredging operations. Gold had a low price of $25/0z and it was hard to make money panning in the out back. Thank you for sharing your travels with us and I really like the choice of music you are using as background. It always seems to fit the show very well.

    Thank you so much for once again bringing Alaska to us. I love Dallas Seavey's Dog Tours...I have had the opportunity to hang out with Dallas and his family and learn so much about the dogs and get an incredible ride in the woods with them. As a musician I sincerely appreciate your music choices and exposing the world to the music that is available in Talkeetna. You guys are simply amazing...blessings on you both.

      Hey Bob! Wow, that must have been a pretty amazing experience to hang out with Dallas! And thanks again for the kind mention of the music curation. We recognize how important the music is to telling the story and spend just about a day's worth of work on music selection alone. So thank you for appreciating that!

    Great content and narration! I have been to Talkeetna and enjoyed the air tour of Denali. It is like you said: " No words to describe it!" The majesty and beauty of the mountains and glaciers makes you feel really small! I would highly recommend it.

      Right?!?! I remember when I was in the plane, feeling the vast difference between the footage we were capturing and the experience of looking at it with my own eyes. Just a world of difference. It is something you truly must experience in person. So happy you had the opportunity to do so as well!

    Fantastic video of how much has changed in Talkeetna since we had my Mother’s Family Union in Wasilla in July 1991. “Our 90 minute flight around Denali was like an E ride at Disney World….” Said my Mother when we landed back in Talkeetna.
    Our recent Viking cruise was SO much different from Vancouver to Seward…but the food and crew were outstanding. Wasilla has also grown and changed since 1991. Hope some more of our Grandchildren and GreatGrandkids will have an opportunity to visit someday!!

    The adventure you are sharing with Anthony is life changing. We are having our two sons and daughter-in-law this August when we are in Alaska.
    We are using this video to plan our time around Talkeetna later this year. This video opened up our eyes since our visit in October 2022 was after season.

    I've taken the Mahay's Jetboat tour several times in Talkeetna. Last time we also had Israel as our captain. Cool to see the legacy pass on from his dad and Devil's Canyon.
    Talkeetna is a fun town.
    I love the Talkeetna museum.
    I've never done zip lining there. I've done it in Denali and other areas. It's just meh to me.
    Denali Brewing pizza and cocktails are my favorite there. Yay for showcasing it. I also recommend Talkeetna Gear Shop for renting bikes.
    I recommend taking the Alaska Railroad Hurricane Turn train that's a roundtrip ride from Talkeetna and about 6 hours. It turns around at Hurricane Gulch and you get to meet people who have whistle stop cabins along the route. And if you go in July you'll see salmon from the train swimming upstream. I think it's an amazing train trip mostly because it's a roundtrip and affordable at around $120pp versus many of the other one way trips at $400+/pp
    Y'all definitely had the full Talkeetna experience. Definitely come back up in the winter. You can sign up to bake pies at the Talkeetna Roadhouse.

      @ArtWeThereYet  9 місяців тому

      Hey there! You'll have to reach out to Jason and ask, as his prices can change by the season (depending on fuel costs, etc). He took us out for our scenic flight in an exchange we did with the community of Talkeetna. We did a mural project with the community (Episode 7 shows that project), in which we covered the cost of paint and materials, and some companies in the area took us on tours as a way to in-kind sponsor the cost of the paint/materials for that community project.

      That’s a normal thing here in Alaska. Most of the locals carry guns and bear spray to protect themselves from bears. Some bear encounters could be fatal so it’s important to be prepared.
