Our Epic Alaskan Adventure: Into the Wild Bus, Salmon Fishing and the Harding Icefield Glacier trek

  • All good things must come to an end as they say. So it is with our epic Alaskan road trip adventure. In this video we head up to to Fairbanks to see the actual "into the wild" bus that Christopher Mccandless died in near the stampede trail. It is located at the Museum of the North on the University of Fairbanks campus. We also stopped in Healy Alaska at the 49th state brewery to check out the actual bus that was used in the movie Into The Wild. It was a pretty surreal experience since it has been my favorite all time movie. Instead of paying big money to salmon fish from a boat, we stopped at the Talkeetna guide shop, rented a pole for $25, picked up a $15 fishing license and fished in town on the Talkeetna river shore. We caught pink and chum salmon and maybe lost some silvers at the bank. It was a great time and the most frugal way to catch our own Alaskan salmon. We made the hike up the Harding Icefield trail and it was amazing to see the huge glacier up close. Waterfalls, wildflowers, and rainforest combined to make this one of my favorites Alaskan hikes. Thanks for coming along on our Alaskan adventure! I'm glad to be able to share the experience with those who may never get the chance to do it themselves. Next video brings us back to the land.
    See you soon.......TRE

    If we doubt climate change all we need to look at is the regression of the glaciers. Harding glacier is quite I hike. Very impressive. Seward area is amazing. Took my first helicopter ride there for an upclose glacier tour. Your family is mighty fit!!👍🏼🌲🌲🥾🥾

      Oh 100 percent about climate change! There's a place in Alaska where the permafrost is melting and after a flood they found 1,000's of mammoth bones that had been frozen in the frozen ground for 10'000's of years and now the frost is gone.

    Jamming to the music, epic! Bus 142 was awesome to see. The wild fires were crazy. Its amazing how they made the Alaska pipeline. I'm going to have to watch Into The Wild, fascinating. And sad. I love salmon, it stinks when they get away but fun trying. Such beautiful country Alaska is. The hike was awesome. I'm not sure I've ever said I hope to see a grizzly. But I have said I hope to see whales! Isn't Gods creations amazing I'm in awe at all the beauty. River will be so excited to see you. Amazing video, great recording and thanks for sharing this with us!! From a fellow Minnesotan.

    I think that's awesome that you know who Chris is from Into the wild what a sad story but what a beautiful movie.
    I'm sure you are well aware or you found out that they had to move the bus from its original location because much like Chris people were getting stranded and needed to be rescued.
    Terry you really brighten my day buddy. I'll always be grateful for you,the content you create and who you are.

      I was aware of the stranded issue. I'mnot sure how I feel about them restoring the bus. Hopefully they don't try to make it look new.

    • @Mntguy-nr9vl
      @Mntguy-nr9vl 11 місяців тому +1

      @@TRERUNSWILDI don't know why they need to restore it unless it's a safety issue but I don't think people should be allowed to go in it I think it should be something they look at.
      To me I think it's sacred I've read the book and I've watched the movie there are some conflicting elements but at the root of it it's a death that could have easily have been prevented so sad.

    We did a cruise probably 18 years ago up there. Started in Fairbanks, road on a stern wheel on the river. Then rode the train from there to Talkeetna, then a motor coach down to the coast. Stayed in several lodges during the land tour, after boarding the ship we stopped in 3 or 4 towns along the inside passage to Vancouver. Think the whole trip was around 10 days, what a beautiful place!

    These tall red flowers that you showed in the film are also present in my Poland. It is a narrow-leaved willowherb. It is an extremely valuable herbaceous perennial from the evening primrose family - decorative, medicinal and melliferous. It produces a shallow root system composed of rhizomes. From them grow rigid, tall shoots. The leaves on the shoots are long, resemble those of willow. In summer, raceme inflorescences of intense pink color develop on the tops of the shoots, which attract a mass of bees. It blooms incessantly throughout the summer.
