How Efficient is the NEW Tesla Model 3 Highland (SR)? A Real Range Test!

Вставка
  • Опубліковано 30 жов 2023
  • In this video, we showcase how efficient the battery of the new Tesla Model 3 is, even tho it is an LFP with 60 kWh capacity.
    We have tried to recreate 2 scenarios, where the first one is driven by a more “aggressive” type of driver, “who likes to step on the pedal and overtake everyone.
    The second test is done with the sole intent of efficiency, and the top speed during this test has never gone above 130km/h (74mph).
    Enjoy the video, and as we always mention, we are not professionals when it comes to making content. We just like to make buttons. 🙂

    I have a ‘21 SR+ with nearly 40,000 miles.
    My lifetime efficiency is 237Wh/mi (147Wh/km) - I do not hyper mile or drive for Uber efficiency ever. Electricity is cheap, and I drive for enjoyment.
    I don’t have aero wheels on it. If it’s hot, I blast the a/c. If it’s cold, the heat runs. If the speed limit is 70 mph, I drive 80.

      Now I did a real good test. In beginning of the week I drove to Stockholm from my hometown. The weather was absolutely horrible the whole way. Very heavy snow storm, strong winds and extremely slippery road conditions with heavy unplowed snowy highways. The stretch was 338 kilometers. The drive was effortless with very steady car. Although it was slippery as soap along the road i managed to stay around 100 - 120 km/h speed all the way. The consumption ended at average on 19.5 kWh/100 km... Really efficient especially under these road conditions. And the comfort and suspension are totally magic. It's equally quiet as my Volvo I drove before. Just love the car.@@EnhanceAuto-S3XY_Gadgets

    The slow charge at the end is because car did not preheat for fast charge. This happens when arriving with very low SOC at the charger, the car prioritises to arrive at destination rather than use energy to heat the battery.

    Ahh I wish you guys didn't navigate to the Supercharger itself. Now the consumption will be much higher due to preheating the battery. Next time try to navigate to a hotel or restaurant nearby to make sure you get the full consumption stats and not consumption + preheating. It’s great to see the new refresh in the hands of customers. If I’m honest, if you’re addressing a video as a ‘range test’, without a more scientific approach, you have to try and at least get some level of consistency throughout otherwise it’s no useful than the current videos out there (I know traffic is an issue and out of your hands, but this affects your results) . On the plus side, I do like the fact you got the car from 100-0%, a lot of UA-camrs will take the average consumption to calculate range which is never really accurate and the weather, conditions etc will always play apart. The worst possible scenario in any non-scientific test is the best test.

I do range tests here in the UK with EVs and viewers who are really interested in ownership want to know what’s realistic. For example, If I drive from 100-0% state of battery at the motorway speed limit consistently, anything else like weather/temps is out of my control, but that’s worse case. I hope that makes sense? I'm pretty surprised that you said that Tesla "claims" that range is 514km. Tesla doesn't claim that the range is 514km. The WLTP cycle claims that this is the range for the standard range Tesla. It's a mandatory regulation and it's only useful to compare efficiency between cars. So, eventhough in your first run it could only make 300km (with not a very efficient style of driving), this car is one of the most efficient cars in the market, by far. It could go 350 or even 400 with normal driving without accelerations and deaccelerations. This is excellent range for an EV with that battery and for the speed that's being tested.
    Excellent job, Tesla team.

      @EnhanceAuto-S3XY_Gadgets  9 місяців тому +1

      You are right and as we stated, we do think the car is awesome and we love it. The thing is that someone puts a number on the website stating that a car, or a phone , or any other gadget will go X amount of hours / km of use, people expect that. It will be so much better if they put an actual average range. The numbers these days are so great so most people will not think twice if it will be enough from them. But unfortunately 515km sounds much better, even if there is a small star after it, indicating that there are rules coming with it 🙂

    • @pauld3327
      @pauld3327 9 місяців тому +5

      You're both right and wrong.
      Only the 19'' wheels version is WLTP certified. The WLTP cycle claims 514 km in that case.
      However the 18'' wheels version is not WLTP certified. And Tesla estimates the WLTP range to be 554 km for that version.
      The problem with the WLTP test is that the average speed during the test is only 46 km/h.

    The optimal battery temperature for that LFP to charge is somewhere in the 100°- 120°F range (38° - 49°C) If your state of charge is low as yours was, the car will not use precious energy to precondition. This is why your max speed was limited. The colder it is without preconditioning, the slower the charge rate. This is especially true with LFP

      Well, all car manufacturers are showing a WLTP range, which to be honest, we have no idea how they mesre it, but it is never real. But our car shows around 422km when charged on 100% and we get between 380 and 410 every time. Considering that is is already cold in Europe, it is not a bad range for a SR mode.

    I actually have never done 400km in 1 day so I don’t know why am I overreacting… I daily do 40-70km, and maybe 2 times a month 160km. Will I be pleased with the rwd standard range? Because LR is a long streach with 8k € difference when I don’t think I will ever use it 😅 But 35k€ with all EV bonuses is a barging for what this car offeres in tech/looks/ulitity compared to other brands(vw/mg/kia).
