2 Samuel 15-16: Absalom and his men surround Jerusalem. David and his people are forced to flee.

  • To avoid bloodshed, David trusts God and voluntarily leaves the city.
    He understands this is part of the consequences of his sin, and humbly (and boldly) accept them.
    He faces abuse and accusations along the way, and accepts them gracefully.
    One of his trusted advisors betrays him and joins Absalom. David sends one of his men to infiltrate Absalom's ranks.
    Absalom reigns in the city, and makes plans to destroy David, but not before disgracing him by publicly sleeping with some of his concubines that were left behind.
