- La Mesa Police Department announced it has dropped their charges against Amaurie Johnson, a black man whose controversial arrest was captured in a viral video last week.

Clearly shows the "officer" assaulting Johnson for no reason at all. Later the officer states clearly that he was not afraid of Johnson. Then why assault him? Fire the "officer" involved. Charge him with assault. Charge him with impersonating an officer. This is not what an officer acts like. He is a fraud.

Every video can be easily edited to protect HEPA or sensitive situations. It's not hard to add a black box or cut sound in post-processing before releasing the video. Yet have a full unedited version for court purposes.
There's no mute button geniuses. Do your research on how an officer body cam works. They pre record from moment it was turned on thats why there's no sound. It goes 30 seconds back

I saw all the videos. Police assaulted him for no reason. Racial profiling completely.
And let me be clear: innocent until proven guilty. Police should never ever ever assume guilt of anything unless they are able to provide proof. With the cameras we have today there should never be any instance where police talk to anyone without full audio and video from the moment they even think about approaching someone. To do less is immediately suspicious and should be followed with suspension upon violation, and termination upon repeated violation. No excuse. At the very least it is disrespectful of the job and badge, not to mention the public they are supposed to serve.
Placing handcuffs on someone for suspicion is assault. If you do not have evidence of violent behavior or are not witness to it, then the cuffs are nothing but weapons of restraint used to assault a citizen under pretense or assumption of guilt.
Much of the police corruption and brutality comes from a state system and city system that profits from police overstepping authority.
The more violations a city can produce, the more money it makes. Quotas also lead directly to abuse of citizen rights for profit. And don't get me started on how much money the privately owned prison system makes.
Make people poor and desperate, then brutalize them for being poor and desperate. It is a truly sad system that needs reform at every single level, and we will never get that from corporate bought politicians.
It is the duty of every officer of law and justice to stand up to the abuses of power that are destroying the trust of entire communities that are already suffering tragically from pandemic joblessness and illness.

A large number of blacks are in jail and prison for not conducting themselves properly during police/citizen interactions. Blacks expect the police to deescalate situations instead of themselves deescalating it. Second reason is the refusal to believe in the exercising of their 5th Amendment Rights. Yes, we as American citizens have to right not to communicate with the police when questioned, because what you say can be used against in the court of law.
You as a black person deescalate to the best of your ability, and keep your mouth shut, there is less that can be used against you to achieve or warrant an arrest or even conviction. But blacks do the exact opposite then find themselves in jail or prison. Amaurie Johnson is just another example as to how you don't do things....
But to most blacks, he was keeping it real...and real got himself arrested and charged.

(a) 5th Amendment a.k.a. the right to shut the fuck up when questioned by the police. - As we all should know, everyone has the right not to answer questions by the police, because what you say can be used against you in the court of law. What a police officer hears, sees, smell, and feel (the sense of touch), is annotated in his incident report. Because we are humans, and there is a lot going on during the initial interview mistakes can happen, words that you said is not annotated exactly the way you said it or meant it. That information is then combed through by a prosecutor, along with any statements made by the victim(s), to include physical evidence, can will be used to build a case against you. Other people's accounts and even the physical evidence might be at best circumstantial, but your statements can be used to tie everything together which will help convince a jury that you are guilt of the accused crime.
Exercising your 5th Amendment won't prevent you from being arrest and charged, but it could prevent you from being convicted or aiding in the practice of over-charging the accused by prosecutors.
Lastly, learn your Amendment rights and stop talking out of your azz, because, "There needs to be probable cause", is covered under the 4th Amendment, not the 5th which is what I had outlined in my last comment to include this comment.
And only empty-brained individuals like yourself conflate different incidents, relative to the discussion or not, all for the sake of trying to prove themselves to be right. So please, STFU and learn something that could protect your civil liberties!!
