- La Mesa City Councilmembers and officials held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to release body cam footage from last Wednesday's arrest of Amaurie Johnson near the Grossmont trolley stop.
Officials discussed the protests and ensuing unrest over the weekend in the city, including plans to provide a full public accounting of the incident and plan to improve response and processes in the future.

After the man was taken into custody and placed in the cruiser, the 3 officers huddled up and turned off the audio on their camera. Did you not watch the video all the way through? He turns it back on after their "huddle up".
The female cop assisting with the arrest should also be fired.

He didn't need a ticket for anything. The black guy wasn't even waiting for that train. Black guy was waiting for his friend to come home. That building they're in front of is an appartment, and that's the parking lot entrance. The friend was out getting groceries, so the black guy was waiting for him in front of the apartments.

@Roger Clemons Well they are doing a spot check to make sure everyone payed to use the trolly. The trolley is subsisdized by public tax payer and needs to verify the neccesity of the trolley by veryifying each time used. It's nothing personal.

Why are they muting their cameras, they are not suppose to do that.
If you are talking about the beginning of the footage, that is completely normal. Pretty much all body cams are silent for the first 30 seconds until they press the record button to start audio. The camera is always rolling and 30 seconds of video without audio is automatically added before the officer presses the record button.

They are probably withholding that video while the investigation is taking place. I wouldn't be surprised if they have already found he violated policy. They released all the other video that doesn't show anything relevant probably to give the appearance of transparency.

They are probably there 6 days a week. Maybe Sundays are not so busy. Let's say on an average they make 55,000 per year. There are 6 of them. 330,000 yearly, 27,500 monthly not counting overtime. They could hire a college student for 27,500 as a ticket agent for the year. Now if these LEOs are just the first shift we can double those figures.

I remember I was in San Diego back in the summer of 2011 and I pulled into a gas station and immediately I got cops right up behind me just because I had and out of state license plate. MTA is operating and losing money they are pretty strict here in Calif about everyone paying fare. They often check tickets and write citations. Sometimes officers ride the trains and check everyone and write citations.

They did show his body cam but, only after the arrest and it ended with driving to few miles away and the cop just being immature and talks like an agro gamer on some game and wrote him a ticket because it is not a felony and because of the covid, they are in most cases not arresting none felonies so they give them tickets and see them in court kind of thing. He just drove him away from the scene so he can give him a ticket and make him walk back to where his friends were. At least when you are released from jail they give you a bus token

Why did they edit the body cam audio? I encourage anyone who is disturbed by this to call the La Mesa Police Department and tell them how disgusting they are.
When the cop is interviewing the man on the platform, the audio is redacted to protect the man's private information. As far as I saw, that is the only editing of the video. The muted audio after the man is placed in the cruiser is done by the officer himself. Can't say for sure, but I would presume so they don't catch any incriminating statements. I could be wrong, but you know what "they" say... if you've got nothing to hide...

Who are you talking about here? The guy was sitting waiting for his friend when the cop approached him. He wasn't committing any crimes. Once the friend got there, there was nothing for hin to still be doing there, so he got up and was about to get in the friend's car when the cop assaulted him.

My son got a ticket for not getting on the sidewalk fast enough. We drove down to Irvine to pay the fee and when I enter d the station with my son, the two female officers behind the desk gave us such disgusting looks.
One of the officers began questioning my reason for being their. When I pulled out my badge, man, you should have saw the look on her face. A black man carrying a badge! Priceless!
