Whoever says Caldwell is a bad sport is obviously not paying attention or they're full of crap. Caldwell was always a great sportsman. Win or lose. When Metcalf shoved him in the NCAA finals, Caldwell's response was one of dignity saying he knew Metcalf was upset and he didn't take it personally. He even called Metcalf a great opponent and thanked him for the match. Caldwell was the epitome of sportsmanship. Anyone that says different is a liar.
Darrion Caldwell was a true freshman in this match. Came jn unseeded and knocked off No 9 and No 8 seed to get to No 1 Lang. Guy could wrestle with some serious funk and was a blast to watch.
I really wish someone had Caldwell's next match at the 2007 NCAA's on video as well. It was almost identical to this one Vs J Jaggers of Ohio State. They went back and forth for a while and then Jaggers got him on his back and stuck him. Not a shot at Caldwell. Was happy to see him make AA twice & win an NCAA title. Simply find it ironic that he had two back to back matches at the same tournament that were nearly identical. Yet everyone remembers the match Vs Lang in the QF, but no one remembers his match Vs Jaggers in the R12.
I think the reason that is honestly is Ryan Lang was the top seed with no losses and was the Big Ten Champion and Darrion Caldwell was just a freshmen.
Ben Askren brought me here...
Ppl say Darion is a bad sport. He lost with real class here. More than I can say for metcalf.
some say winning with class is also important.
@@motoz30 yea....have you watched iowa wrestle much? Do they win with class....austin desanto? How about John Smith when he won the gold medal?

Wow, what a match!
The guy from Nc state got screwed he had him pinned. You can not stick someone to the mat better than that.

Ryan looked huge compared to freshman Caldwell..makes this even more impressive for caldwell
That was nuts.
This is how wrestling is supposed to be. No stalling, just bring it and let the chips fall....
WOW!
That's what you call mixing it up. Rolling cement job.
Lang done fucked up when he gave away the escape
